Yeah that happened to me, if you're only signing up to rate videos ect just put a weird username like "cssscjsfhfsjcbgwjb" because it doesn't really matter, but if you're going to talk to people on it or something then yeah, you should try and get a normal one.

Yeah that happened to me today when I tried to sign up. I tried EVERYTHING until I got frustrated and started typing in inappropriate words and I came up with "lickmypunani."

One thing worth trying: if the name you want has a lower-case 'l' in it, substitute it for an upper-case 'I' and no one will be able to tell the difference in YouTube's fonts. Works for me!
