OMG!

Im seriously going to blow a fuse in a minute xD

Why do we need to learn Shakespeare?? I mean, its not like Im going to use that language again xD.

We're doing Macbeth at the moment, and my teacher just expects everyone to understand because we're the 'top set'. It dosn't mean I know how to speak 'dsifoifds' language!

I actually think some of them understand it, which is CRAZY! We've just got up to the part we're someone died in a castle (I wanna say Duncan?), and now we have to write a newspaper article on it.. that fills an A3 sheet of paper, so about 4 pages in our book.. now Im sorry, but ffs! I dont even know whats going on!! Its not even english! (Well, I know it is, but not modern times english!)

Grrr!! I have to finish all 4 pages for homework for Monday, and Ive done like half a page and TOTALLY stuck , and my teacher wasnt in today, so we had a supply teacher! I cant even ask her for help :( So I will write a little bit, and then go in and say its all jibberish to me xD

Hehe - Rant over!

Scarlett.

oh i feel for you!we did macbeth in yr 9 for our sats.To this day i have NO idea what its about yet i somehow managed to blag my way to a level 7 hehe! The worst bit about those shakespere lessons was that our teacher actually made us act out macbeth! Its like in another flippin language!
good luck with your hw and don`t worry about it im sure everything will be fine:spin2:

Nicky.
12-09-2008, 03:48 PM
I hope everything will be fine.. but mum knows I find it all jibberish, so I'll just ask her to help me or get a note, ororor I might take the p**s in the article and write the little interviews we have to do in snfisdfs language and be really annoying xD Im good at that xD

LOL Laura xD I wish I could blag it to a level 7! Mine will be like level 4 if Im lucky xD

and I'll take the advise and tell my teacher.. thanks Chewy xD

x

Shaun

A lot of our current language came from Shakespeare - he invented a lot of new words.

Nicky.
12-09-2008, 03:53 PM
Lol Shaun xD

Was I caught red handed? xD or whatever it is..

Thats another thing that my teacher goes on and on about xD I HATE IT ! xD

supernoodles!
12-09-2008, 03:54 PM
aw i wouldn`t worry about it sats are like agggggeees off!i thought you were in like yr 11 or something though =/
i still don`t know how i managed to get a 7,it was probably a mistake lol!Actually i just thought of something, whenever we had to study a play or novel in english my mam used to get me these books which basically explained it all in a simpler form haha!in otherwords in ENGLISH!they were really good and there not that expensive i don`t think.

I never really disliked Shakespeare,we had to learn Irish-5 classes a week of a language people never speak which was very infruriating.

I actually LOVE Shakespeare's work. Romeo and Juliet is such an amazingly written play, along with Macbeth, A Midsummer's Night Dream etc etc. He's a legend.

Karenness!
12-09-2008, 04:19 PM
Im doin Romeo and Juliet AGAIN! Lmao
I did it in Year 10 nd wrote an essay on it nd now again in Year 11

romeo and juliet wasn't that brilliant, it's actually regarded as one of his worst plays. :P. but it's pretty good! :D

I've read Macbeth, The Comedy of Errors, Romeo & Juliet, Macbeth and a Midsummer Nights Dream, and i've performed in Much ado about Nothing.

Nicky, you should learn about Shakespeare, Macbeth isn't my favourite play, but it's brilliant.
I never understand people who say they can't understand Shakespeare. Fair enough, I might have found that at the first page, but you soon get the hang of it, and to improve your english you should look back at much better versions OF English to benefit you, seriously.

His work is amazing but I just hate studying it, I don't see the point and really want to be doing anything else in the world than studying it.

there's a film version set in like the 90s but with the same language. Try to get hold of it, it REALLY helps you understand what's going on seeing it live. I hated it at first but now it's one of my favourites. I really like shakespeare

Well you owe a lot of respect to shakespeare as he pretty much invented half of the words you say! He was an amazing poet and writer and his legend deserves to live on, a lot of people dont give Williams work a chance. You dont know it now but if you studied his work you would sit in awe at his writing.

I know I am biased because I am an Actor but its moments like this that make Shakespeare amazing!:

O Romeo Romeo wherefore art thou Romeo...

...What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other word would smell as sweet;

Juliet is saying here "Why are you called Romeo, Why are you Romeo Montague. If you was called anything else you would just be as fantastic as you are, just as if a Rose was called a Shittyfarty bum bum flower, it would still smell as sweet.

Just give the text chance :P And really read between the lines!

It's good!! We are reading the play and also watching the film. The film is slightly different from the play. It has 3 main characters, Blanche, Stella and Stanley. In the opening, Blanche is visiting her sister, Stella, Stella is married to this polish man called Stanley. I wont give to much away, but i smell affair :P

Cool! We're doing Enduring Love by Ian McEwan at the moment. I've only read 2 chapters but it seems pretty good.. I love English literature up until the point where essays are involved. I don't find them particularly difficult but I don't seem to be as good at explaining my thoughts about things on paper as I am in my head

I think Shakespeare's brilliant. I love Hamlet, My absolute favourite. In School I did Macbeth every year inbetween year 6-9 I know that play so well. For GCSE we did Hamlet but I'm pretty knowledgable on Romeo and Juilliet since I like it a lot and the film with Claire danes and Leonardo DiCaprio is one of my favourites.

If you need any help just ask and i'll try to help the best I can.

Hey...

I came across your post on Google. I know it says not to advertise products, but hey.. I think this could be helpful! Not sure if your parents or someone would buy it for you, but here goes:

THE ARKANGEL SHAKESPEARE (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=160285397390) is currently one of my Ebay auctions.

"Shakespeare for the 21st Century", it is all of the plays on audio CD, featuring top actors, amazing original music, and the unabridged canon. Guaranteed to entertain as well as educate anyone, at any level. Sheer brilliance!

A bit pricey, but very, very worth it.

On the off-chance you or someone you know is willing to make the investment, check it out!

Cheerio.

I've done A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Tempest, Romeo and Juliet, Much Ado About Nothing, Macbeth, Othello and Antony and Cleopatra - I love Shakespeare, it's all we do at school! You have to just get into the way of understanding it, it's like anything else, you have to practice before you really get it.

LOL

We did Macbeth for our SAT's and have no idea what its about but still got a level 7, I know theres Macbeth, Lady Macbeth and Banquo but thats about as far as my knowledge for that stretches ...

Then I did Romeo & Juliet for coursework but we told our teacher we didn't understand so she just wrote the answers on the board, which we had to memorise (because that coursework was done by an interview) so I genuinely have no idea what happened there either, just I know the ending.

And thats it tbh. Oh I remember doing a Midsummer Nights Dream in primary, I liked that though, we went to see a modern version which was more like a panto :colour:

Oh and the last one, I remember we did a couple of his poems for GCSE, no idea what they meant. But the poem about him I can remember, but only because it was dirty and sexual :joker:

Nicky.

We do a draft she corrects all the mistakes and tells us to add stuff and then gives it back. So you have to write yours out again o_O!!
