ok so last night when i got home from work i was well shattered. I had started my new job role at work and it had made me a little too tired to concentrate properly.

so i put my work uniform in the wash. about 2 hours later after hanging my cloths out to dry, whilst watching stargat sg-1 a sudden thought popped into my head.

OMG my ipod nano was in my pocket. so i ran downstairs praying i had taken it out before i put it in the wash. i lowered my hand into my trouser pocket praying it wasnt there. and then my heart sank as my finger tips touched the cold surface of my ipod complete with my brand new headphones.

I pulled it out and pressed any button for any signs of life but i got nothing. my earhones work fine though but this did not lift my spirit.

has anyone else done this before. any chance of bringing my ipod back to life?

Ok. Pull the battery bit off the back.

Now, put some dry rice in a bowl and heat in the microwave for a tiny bit so it's warm. Then put your iPod in the bowl of rice, completely covered and leave it.

If there's any chance of saving it, this will be it. The dry rice absorbs any moisture in the iPod.

If you can, put the bowl of rice/iPod in an airing cupboard of some sort too.

Leave it a few days, and try again.

If not, really sorry it's broke  I don't think any guarantee covers water damage.

(PS. Don't try switching it on again til you've followed the above steps, it could short circuit it).

I had my phone on our boat, and it hammered down and it got soaked, all the buttons were messed up and everything..

I got the hair dryer, put it on the lowest setting and left it blowing on it for around 15 mins, then just took it out and left it for about 3 hours, switched it on and worked fine :)

Laurens way sounds practical too x

I would actually sit in a corner and cry if that happened to my iPod, i'm too attached to it.
This makes my mom putting my complete collection of pokemon cards in the wash look a little better.

I spilt water on my new phone a couple of months ago and the sound doesn't work on it now.

i dropped my ipod touch in a cup of tea 3 weeks after getting it. not good. i had to send it back to great universal, and they didn't open it up obviously because they didnt realise that it was wet and therefore not under guarantee and sent me a brand new one
good luck with yours though, its the most horrible feeling ever isn't it?

You got lucky  Companies have now cottoned onto this and there's now a strip thing in all electronics that turns a different colour when in contact with water.

i know, i read about that on the internet so I very nearly didn't send it back, I only did because there was nothing to lose. obviously the people at GU aren't proper apple people, all they have to do is plug it into the PC, and if it doesn't recognise it and it doesn't look broken from the outside they just send another one :cheer2: i was sooo happy

Ooof, that's nasty. I thought my iPod was broken yesterday and had a panic-attack, but it's working fine today...and the battery was fine yesterday as well. The screen's a little dented [I went moor-walking but it's not like I took out my iPod and threw it off some rocks]...but it's fine, hallelujah!

I thought you were kidding about the whole microwave thing put in a bowl of rice. I was half expecting you to say, "Next, dip in tikka masala sauce".

Soz to hear about the water damage problem. Happened a while back to my phone. Also did the same thing with my headphones but they were somehow fine (they went through the washing machine and the tumble drier).

OK UPDATE.

I left it over night in the cupboard where the boiler is in the hope it would dry out.

so this morning when i got up i touched the buttons and......................

NOTHING.

so

I decided to plug it into my computer to see what happens. it could blow up my computer or it could work so at the risk of making things worse i tried anyway.

so i plugged it in, nothing, for a few seconds. then its burst into life. The trip through the washing machine had apparently drained the battery of all power which is why it wasnt working in the first place. but now its fully charged its working fine. the only evidence now is slight water damage on the screen which i can live with.

i just hope it holds out. i suppose after a few days of using it i will know for sure if its permenently damaged.

Apple are normally generally very good at replacing things if you have to, they replaced a couple of iPods that I had broken and didn't question me too much about it.

Sounds like a plan, mine needs cleaning to. I think a hot wash to make it clean again.

But at least you didn't drop it in the sea, I did with my camera and the salt completley destroyed my camera. :(

 My dad was showing off with the camera taking pictures of everything and of me when we were in the sea. Then he dropped it in the water and the waves took it away. I couldnt stop laughing, it was funny because he was being cocky with it. It was only a cheap wind up one that you get on holiday that only take about 21 pics, so It wasn't expensive, and thats why it was funny.
