Do u think being smacked is ok?

TBH I think it its because if you look at most normal behaved people (i.e people who don't cause alot of trouble ) and ask them if they got smacked when they were little and most of them say yes.

Thats not the only reason i have more but i cba to list them now.
I don't think you should smack that hard you like cause a black hole in the child cause that would be ridiculous.

What/Who is normal?

People who behave normal. I mean like who don't get arrested everyday and kill people.

I don't agree with it..but at the same time its up to the parents what they do with their own kids..

A child would have to have done something incredibly bad for me to respond in a smack. I have never smacked my children. There are other ways of dealing with issues without leading to violence. I am a firm believer that violence breeds violence

A little smack isn't so bad. (Which most young kids would get) but if it is a hard one I would consider it to be inapropriate.

Personally I won't do it but I don't have anything against it ...

I was smacked as a child, and I have no problem with it. It was only when I really crossed the line though, and after being warned. I was never hit hard, It didn't even hurt it, but it worked and I'd always behave myself. Children need discipline. I really disagree with the "nanny culture" we seem to have today, where children can get away with murder. Children used to get caned in school, and that generation didn't grow up to be the thugs who stab strangers, unprovoked.

Smacking has to be controlled though and the parent should never get angry. I hate it when I see young mothers in the street who smack their child, really quite hard, for doing something so minor and often accidental, without warning.

I think there is other and better ways to punish a child rather than smacking.
What does smacking teach them? That its ok to hit someone if they are in the wrong?
There is no point in hitting a child because thats at the time when their personality and psychological profile is building up and smacking is going to cause alot of damage in the long run.

I was smacked as a kid and its why I dont smack. I found being smacked the worst because of its ability to humiliate and shame.

I dont take away the right to smack though but it has to be the very last straw. I see some people smack just because there child has a paddy in the street or does something wrong and *WHAM* now thats bad!!!!!

No, I think that's really catorgirising of you. I have never been hit in my whole life and I'm not getting put into jail or anything like that. And i'm sure most of the people that aren't "normal" havn't been hit either. It's a complete mixture and you should never ever be allowed to hit someone just because you're bigger than they are.

I couldnt agree more nd thats what i was trying to say. Children are smart and they know they can get away with murder.

I also agree with firewire and fom. I don't mean a really hard smack like one to tell the child what to do and not to do.

I was brought up with being smacked, apparently its the "Italian" way to dicipline and all of them do it, which is actually true. I guess I got used to it. I even got things thrown at me, just as my cousins/sister ect... did.

I now never get smacked, but between 6-14, it was common.

But when people say they hate seeing parents smack their kids for minor things. It's because they get into habbit. If you think it's okay to smack your kid for doing something bad and you realise they stop, then you'll eventually get into the habbit of doing it the minute they do anything you aren't perfectly happy with.

That's down to bad parenting and not being consistant with rules etc, not smacking. You could apply that to any form of punishment.

there are many diffent ways of disaplining a child and i dont think smacking is one of them, if a child is angery and has done something reali bad the child in my eyes should never be smack as it will just get the child more up set and that child may re-tallyate. a child should just be placed in a quiet area to sit where the parent should explain wht they did and y it is wrong and then the child can think about what they have done and it is important to listen to the child.

so no i belive u should not smack ur children

By the look of yours you sound like you are a 12 year old girl.
Does he hell sound 50, its just called appreciating music. You can like people that arent from your own time you know! I love Queen more than anyone in the charts these days.
And Amy Winehouse... bad music?! I understand she is a horrible person but her music is amazing, her lyrics are fantastic... then again with you liking Miley Cyrus... lyrics dont really matter to you that much.

Teenagers are to rude.

as for children a little slap on the wrists or bum is acceptable.

i dont see nothing wrong with a little smack as it shows the child you aint talking **** or otherwise they will walk over you i mean obviously punching ect should NOT be allowed as that is abuse but a smack isnt that bad imo

I am not a fan of smacking children. I have never smacked my children and they are both fine, one is 15 the other a 21 year old mother who herself doesnt smack her son.

I used other ways to discipline my children, I used the naughty step, I used withrdawl of their favourite thing for a short time. I grounded them as they got older and have no problem stopping my teenager from using the computer or removing her phone should I need to punish her for anything.

I just think smacking sends out the wrong message to children, it kind of says it's ok to hit someone if they do something you dont like or you said not to do. I dont however judge others who choose to use smacking as a form of controlling their kids, each to their own I suppose.

I was a horror when I was a toddler; my parents smacked me and I've turned out to be a well grounded, fantastic person . They did hit me as a toddler though, and I think it taught me the right lessons. Everything in moderation though - some people would abuse the right to smack their children, and see it as an OK to abuse them. I think smacking's acceptable, but that's assuming that no parents would abuse this right.

I dont think it has anything to do with smacking/corporal punishment and more to do with numerous social factors, ie/ emergence of youth culture, more freedom for young people, Divorce/separation of parents, a lack of consequences for bad behaviour, a materialistic society... I dont think you need to resort to smacking to instill discipline.

They would never bring back the cane, because for a start parents wouldn't stand for it, and do you really think a teenage boy/girl would stand there and let a teacher hit them with it? the teacher would probably get stabbed lol.
