Just sing what suits your voice best. As long as you're good,it doesn't matter if the song has been sung before.
I'm thinking of auditioning but really I just wanna hug Dermot

To be honest, it doesn't really matter.
The producers never seem too interested.
Or that's the impression I got anyway when I auditioned.
So many amazing people get turned away.

I got turned away; wasn't really given a reason, just a mumble of 'lack of experience' after a long pause.
I sang 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm looking For' and I was 16 at the time of auditioning.
X-Factor is completely staged, that's what puts me off auditioning ever again.
My friend auditioned two years ago and got to the second round of producers, though turned away at the first last time.

As I said, I don't think it really matters how able you are to sing.
I heard amazing singers belting out Christina/Whitney songs, there was a really unique boy in my row before me who was amazing and got turned away.
Emzy-!!

I don't know.
I just think it's best to go expecting the experience, as opposed to success.
Good luck either way though.

Mmmm Eric Clapton - Tears in Heaven
I reccomend singing a song that isnt too well known, the Judges appreciate that loads. Or a songwriter kind of song... such as Damien Rice?
They are looking for edgier people these days not just good voices.
