Charges dropped!

An assault charge against England and Liverpool footballer Steven Gerrard has been dropped.

The 28-year-old still faces a charge of affray in connection with an incident at a nightclub in Southport. Six other men face the same charge.

Mr Gerrard had been in the Lounge Inn after a 5-1 win over Newcastle United when a disturbance broke out.

A 34-year-old man had suffered facial injuries in the incident in December, North Sefton magistrates were told.

Mr Gerrard was not required to make a formal plea in relation to the affray charge which he now faces.

The footballer, and six other defendants, will have a plea and case management hearing at Liverpool Crown Court on 3 April.

Charges dropped

Nick Evans, prosecuting, told the court that after a "review of the evidence in full" it was decided that all seven defendants should only face affray charges.

Assault charges were also dropped against John Doran, 29, of Woodlands Road, and Ian Smith, 19, of Hilary Avenue, both Huyton, Merseyside.

Appearing alongside Mr Gerrard on Friday were Accrington Stanley players Ian Dunbavin, 28, of Guildford Road, Southport, and midfielder Robert Grant, 18, of Enstone Avenue, Litherland.

Also in the dock were John McGrattan, 33, of Rimmer Avenue, and Paul McGrattan, 31, of Linden Drive, both Huyton.

Mr Gerrard was arrested along with a number of other men outside the venue after the disturbance on 29 December last year.

The father-of-two was escorted out of the court building by members of his legal team after the short hearing and driven away in a black car.

Dont like Gerrard much.

Gets to half time and he hasnt done much but like shoot from 50 yards and completely miss they will always say thats the closest they have come, say how he will do better likely to get a goal etc.

And the commontaters as soon as he gets the ball gets a hard on like, omgomgomg gerrard has the ball omg when hes like in his own box, i hate how much people talk about him so much really puts me off.

Arsenal (giggles, well it's a duuupid name!( would love to have a player like Steven Gerrard!

If only Torres was english, would do wonders for the english team.. We still aint good enough for 2010.

Im happy with Fabregas when hes on form and not injured.
Davids Villa should join Arsenal, Worlds best striker.

yeh he would do wonders for england though. Why dont they want Almunia in the English Team he will be legally able to play in June? Hes much better than James.

His agent will get him the best deal, if he wants epic european footballing nights, world class fans, huge pay packet, world class amazing team mates, a club that will win and win then he will join Liverpool!

You must admit right now that Liverpool is the better offer, plus Torres is at Liverpool!

30stone
22-03-2009, 03:11 PM
Well Barca seems like a good offer.

Other Spanish players their and big money and will win things.

Liverpool Could still win nothing this year... and He has Faregas at Arsenal and he said hes one of his good friends.

Liverpool put in an offer last july and havent tried since also.

Whereas Arsenal, man city, Chelsea, real madrid and barca still active for him.

andyman
22-03-2009, 03:29 PM
Lol Man City... They are a joke!

30stone
22-03-2009, 03:34 PM
I know they want Toure to.

I suppose they have mass amounts of money... so they can provide bigger pay packets than any team.

andyman
22-03-2009, 03:37 PM
Can't just buy great players to make a great team, it takes time and hard work to make a great team... Chelsea made that mistake when they became Chelski!

Liverpool 2 - 0 Villa!! Hahaha! Hey doing Arsenal a huge fave.

30stone
22-03-2009, 03:40 PM
lol yes i know.

Yes they are helping Arsenal with the 3 point lead over villa after today.

But

1 Dont like liverpool in general.
2 My friend ass ****s liverpool and constantly talks about them.
3 I dont want liverpool to win the premiership because they never have and for reason 2.

HeatherTWx
22-03-2009, 04:32 PM
He has now scored a hat trick against villa.

He's still going strong at the grand old age of 28

bless him

still going strong 12 years later at 40 as well

who have thought it he'd be smashing teams in europa and finishing above benfica in the group and cruising in the league undefeated with 18 clean sheets in 22 games, what a guy.
