Why are we so scared of spiders?

It's weird, most people haven't been bitten by one but are still petrified! I am because when I was about 8 I was at my grandparent's house in spain, and we were in the pool and there were 2 right down in the bottom of the deep end, so we assumed they were dead and my dad was gonna bring them home in his suitcase. I was looking up right close at one on the table and it bit my nose. We called the doctor and it wasn't poisonous but it bloody hurt, and now I've got a little red spot on my nose.
ANYWAY, are you scared of spiders? Why? Why are so many boys scared of spiders? I understand why boys turn into wrecks around wasps, because they hurt, but most spiders in the UK are harmless.

I think it may be the pointiness off their legs and how they quickly move around.

Harmless things, just hate it when it crawls on your foot. :sad:

i have no idea why i am scared of them maybe its do with i used to live in a old house that backed onto woods so we had huge ones and one night i woke up to find one walking up my leg under the cover

Two weeks ago I cam dome stair in the middle of the night to get a glass of water when I was walking up stairs I saw two HUGE spiders on the middle step. It was dark but I could tell they were moving. I ran down the stairs, into my parents room and said that I couldn't walk past them cos I was too scared. So they came over to the stairs with me and turned on the light . . .

it was leaf. :blush2:

:laugh2: i shouldnt laugh though i have in past woken my then partner up telling him to shut the window cos all these spiders were getting in my wardrobe but the window was even open:blush2: it was all in my dream cos i had watched something that had spiders in before going to bed

I worked with a girl once who could not even look at a photo of a snake. We had to tell her if there were any pics in the newspaper before she read it.

I used to be petrified, but then I got over my fear and was fine. This year though the fear has come back really badly.

It's probably because of the whole 8 eyes / 8 legs thing, It's not really very natural, and their black-ness can look really sinister..

We're scared of spiders because they move quickly and they sit still if they sense danger is nearby, then sprint rapidly away if they feel threatened. It's that whole sudden movement thing. That, and their appearance. *vom*
