Freeman, 28, was accused of raping the girl on a poolside sunlounger while they were staying with their families at the same hotel two years ago.

The actor - who played mechanic Scott Windsor in the ITV1 soap - admitted he knew the girl, who is from Cheshire.

But he told the High Court in Bridgetown she never resisted his advances.

He said they first began kissing one evening after swimming in the hotel pool and then went on to have sex on a nearby lounger.

He denied she had ever asked him to stop.

Sales consultant James Broughton said he was on a friend's lounger by the pool when he overheard "pleasurable" sounds.

He admitted he recognised the actor and went over to take photographs of the pair which he sold to a tabloid newspaper for £1,500.

Mr Broughton told the court he was not aware of the rape charges until two days after he sold the pictures.

It would be a travesty of justice to convict my client on this kind of evidence

Anesta Weekes QC

He also said he had seen the pair "cuddling" on the lounger after the alleged incident.

Anesta Weekes QC, defending Freeman, said the girl's own evidence showed the sex was consensual and the girl "made the dreadful choice to lie" when her parents "had beaten her up" for it.

Ms Weekes said although they were interrupted three times, the girl did not raise the alarm.

"It would be a travesty of justice to convict my client on this kind of evidence," she added.

But Barbados's director of public prosecutions, Charles Leacock QC, said Freeman wanted a "fast and nasty" job.

He said the actor wanted "a quickie to satisfy nothing but his adamant lust", and claimed he had "brutally deflowered" the girl despite her protests.

The jury took 90 minutes to reach a unanimous not guilty verdict.

Speaking outside the court, the actor said: "I'm looking forward to spending time with my family and close friends who have been enormously supportive to me over the past two years."

EX-EMMERDALE star Ben Freeman gave his first interview on ITV1's This Morning today after being cleared of rape last week.

The 28-year-old actor was overjoyed when he walked free from court in Barbados after being found not guilty of raping a teenager.

Fern and Phil

But he told Fern and Phil that the legal battle has left him broke - and while his family stood by him throughout, he is struggling to put his life back together after the emotional upheaval of the trial.

He explained: "My mission for the last two years has been to clear my name... now that's over, I would obviously like to get back to work, whatever work that is.

“I’ve put (my family) through an incredible amount and I can never really repay them for how they have been there for me."

“It was a strange feeling when they said they’d reached a verdict ... it certainly didn’t sink in straight away. It had been two long years that me and my family went through. It wasn’t some joyous moment. I just looked straight ahead, listened to what the judge had to say and walked out. I am finally glad it is all over."

Silly

The actor admitted he had made "bad choices", but while he had been "silly", he never acted illegally.

“I am not particularly angry with the girl and the family. I do have to say I made a lot of bad choices that put myself in that position where someone could say that about me. The important thing is I didn’t do anything illegal but it was silly. It was.

“Whatever made her make that decision I think it was tough to then undo, I think things happened so quickly and I think it was a snowball effect and I think someone who is young possibly quite naive was unable to get out of that decision she put herself in.”

Ben also said he would consider returning to Emmerdale if the soap's bosses approached him: “I don’t know if Emmerdale would consider taking me back but I would think about it if they wanted to talk.”

Ben Freeman was accused of the sexual assault nearly two years ago while holidaying at a posh resort on the island. He faced life imprisonment if convicted. His alleged victim, now 17, reportedly showed "no emotion" when the verdict was announced.

I feel very sorry for him, having to go through that must've been a nightmare.Even though he's been found not guilty, he's still going to be associated with that for a long time and may find it hard to get another acting role.

He didn't get sacked or anything, they just decided not to renew his contract. Now Emmerdale has a new producer, I suppose he could return. I doubt it'll be anytime soon though because they won't want him back just after this rape trial etc.

I hate lassies that do that kinda thing. One of my close mates is on the sex offenders register cos a girl decided the next again day that she regretted going down on him so called the police and said that he forced her and she was 16 and he was 18 so he got put on the sex register. Its a disgrace that girls use that against guys who they thought later was a mistake.

Girls like that make me sick, and make it so much more difficult for genuine victims to be believed. I never felt that he was guilty of this crime, and am glad that he's been cleared. Unfortunately, mud sticks, and it will no doubt take time for him to put his life back together.

She should be arrested for wasting police time.
