I liked it. Even though I'm not a fan of that version of the song he really did a great preformance.
Didn't like the actual arrangement, but his performance was fantastic.

Agree with this.
He completely delivered though, which I was impressed with. He really stays true to his word! I was a little disappointed last week, but Austin is definitely back on track this week. I hope he keeps this up.

Downloaded it earlier and have been playing it a lot (along with Dianas, JLS' and Ruths Purple Rain). Austin was definitely the best last night though.

I preferred that version when it was covered by David Cook on American Idol and I thought Austin's rendition was second rate compared to that. Basically Austin didn't have the type of voice to pull it off.

I really hope that Cowell doesn't keep getting his acts to sing rip off's of versions of songs done on American idol week after week. This isn't America and the British do have a slightly different taste in music to the Americans.
Whilst it wasn't as good as David Cook's version, it was still the best of the night for me.

Problem I have with it is that I just couldn't take it seriously because I had seen David Cook sing it on American Idol and I thought it was a cheap trick pulled by Cowell to get Austin to sing it on the x-factor.

It isn't Davids version though so i dont see the difference between that any other arrangement?
He shouldn't have been allowed to do it IMO.

Until David sung the song it was a little know version of the Billie Jean and then suddenly it was known to millions of Americans and people around the world that watched American Idol. So in away he did make it his own. He brought it to mass attention. What helped make it sound distinctive when David sang it was the type of voice he has which was perfectly suited to that version of the song.
Austin's version was no more than a good karaoke copy of the song. He didn't make it his own and he doesn't have the right type of voice to pull it off. His voice is too pure.
So it was okay, maybe good, but it wasn't the best version of the song or the best song of the night.

Loved the arrangement - I hated Austin all the way through this competition but last night he made me LOVE him. That Billie Jean version was amazing and he actually owned that stage and I always thought he would be too sheltered and not be able to do that but last night he defo rocked my socks.

It was better then last weeks, but his performances wasn't a patch on Diana/Laura/Alex, or even JLS, who seem to have more personality then Austin.

Yeah, when I watched the American Idol version of Chris Cornell's arrangement of the original I thought... a lot better.
This X Factor performance was a copy of a copy of a copy.
I liked it... everyone else that heard it said they hated it... but it sounded good. I havent heard the other versions and I dont plan on doing!

I literally loved it
I don't care if he copied it or not
TBH I thought he sang it quite well.............just the arrangement I didn't like, copied from American Idol I hear.. That won't do, Mr. Cowell, I thought u had to be 'different' this year!!

I thought it was a great performance. And fair enough not evryone would like the arrangement. Personally, as a huge MJ fan, I think that Chris Cornell version is horrendous! But Cowell obviously picked it, and Austin had no say about it! BUt given what it was, he did a great job!

His vocals were good but I found the whole thing a bit too self indulgent.

That arrangement was first done by Chris Cornell, former lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave.

Which was then done by David Cook on this years American Idol.
