Yes it's a dirty habit.
Yes it is disgusting.
I will quit, but it is so hard.
But has anybody on here actually achieved it, and if so any pointers? (please). :wavey::wink:
I wouldn't dare start smoking.

Have you tried the NHS stop smoking service? They will be able to give you professional advice and guide you through it effectively - more so than we'd be able to do.

I stopped for 2 years after I had my eldest daughter, started working again and then started.
I stopped again when I fell pregnant with my 2nd and then started again a few months ago (my bad)

I don't blame you. Some people only drink alcohol because they say that it makes their night out better. There must be some sort of problem with some people's social life if they have to drink to have a good time.

Nope! Everytime I go to a pub/bar I just get something light. And I've only turned 16, so they couldn't have served me anyway.
And my parents dont drink either so theres never any in the house.

I don't blame you. Some people only drink alcohol because they say that it makes their night out better. There must be some sort of problem with some people's social life if they have to drink to have a good time.

Smoking one cig a day wont get you addicted... I smoke 10/20ish a week and im not addicted. I can quit at any time... i just enjoy doing it.

i used to smoke prob getting close to 5 years ago now and gave up by pure willpower (was very hard though as my ex was a smoker) but i still have days even now where i really crave one and if i walk past someone smoking i just want to wrestle it off them:laugh:
i would try the nhs stop smoking thing cos they give you pointers and can help you decide best route although be careful cos my stepdad gave up smoking but is now just as addicted to the lozange things you can get

I have given up from 20 a day to 0 a day!
Whoo! I just decided one day that enough was enough and I had to pull myself together. I put £5.25 in a jar every day cos thats what I spent a day and then looked at it every week knowing there was nearly £40 a week going in there. And then I bought myself something new every week instead.

I find smoking repulsive, and I would never ever start it. When smokes near me I just get away from them, even if its a friend or family member. My Mum smokes, and its awful. If I could ban them I would. In our SPHE book it showed us a photo of a smoker's lung -- it looked like a decaying turkey corpse. Has anyone seen the add where they get this organ of a smoker and push all this stuff out of it. Looked like grey rice pudding. I'll stop talking now, but damn its a horrible habit.

I don't think it's a dirty habit, at all. Okay it's not that healthy but I would rather smoking than taking drugs.
I don't want to quit anyway. However, I do practice a lot of sport and I exercise every day so I kinda feel the bad sides but that's all.

Its just that in Europe (not UK) - smoking is totally the done thing. In britain now hardly anyone smokes so its frowned upon etc. But in europe its like done by everyone. Like you can smoke in bars, cafes, restaurants etc. We cant do any of that though.

Ewww, I totally agree with you. Fine, if they want to smoke then let them but I don't want to personally take in the manky smoke that comes from their cigarette. Some of them don't think about other people at all.

If it happens regularly enough theres a risk of it actually. Passive smokers have lungs like mild smokers.

Women who smoke when pregnant are harming their unborn child, second-hand smoke is more dangerous than you know. I hated going out with friends and having all these smokers puffing smoke in our faces and making our clothes stink. I remember going into a pub where people were smoking and it was like a freaking smog, honest to God.
I have nothing against smokers, just smoking. I just wish they'd cop on and why would they be proud of the habit?

I'm not going to be polite about something I feel strongly about. That might sound snotty, but whatever. My question is -- why, of all things, would you be proud of smoking? yeah even as I smoker myself, I HATE people who smoke around children or when pregnant.
I remember when I worked in a pub before the smoking ban and this couple came in with their 4 day old baby girl.
They were smoking around her, and blowing smoke in her direction, and I was getting so angry with them. It really annoyed me.

Well actually just to put it straight, Marijuana isnt that addictive. Its the tobacco you put in with it so you can smoke it that makes it addictive, the only thing you would get addicted to is the feeling it gives you.
Tobacco is the most addictive, the government wont ever get rid of it as it brings loads of money in and the fact it is additive means that people never stop haha.

yeh well it took him about 40 years of smoking 60 a day till he discovered how to give up lol. and its the best book as it doesnt go on about why you SHOULD give up as we all bloody know that!! but questions the resons why you smoke in the first place
