View Full Version : Why Prince is REALLY annoyed with X Factor's Ruth...

If, like us, you were glued to this Saturday's X Factor (heatworld watched it three times this weekend – hello, repeats) you were no doubt in massive awe of Ruth Lorenzo's version of Purple Rain. Ruth found herself in the bottom two this week, and as her second song, she did her own rendition of Prince's famous song, which was, quite frankly, amazing. So amazing, that by yesterday, her version had had 100,000 hits on YouTube – and Prince's people took it down! Someone a bit jealous, are they? Luckily, it's back up now – so check it out while you can right here. Oh, and the official Prince version re-entered the top 50 yesterday, so really, we think Ruth's done him a favour, don't you?

Prince is annoying,I hate when celebrities get like that. Artists need to apperciate their fans and the people who made them successful in the first place.

I remember when I first realised that they had stopped people viewing it I was outraged! Its pathetic. Its like its HER fans and she is a fan of HIM! He should be happy that someone has decided to sing his rubbishy song in the first place. I hate prince!

Thank goodness we can still download it :elephant:

YOu lot are talking Rubbish!
If anyone takes it down, its ITV not Prince! If his song is sang on xfactor, the author have given permission for it to be performed, or else it would violates copyrights! That performance, is owned by ITV, Prince has nothing to do with it!
Prince has better things to do than hate on a talent show performer.Go watch him sing that during a super bowl holftime, and it started raining at the end of the performance! That was un be lievable!

It is Prince (http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2007/sep/14/1) =|
If you search around you'll see. He's ordered his lawyers to get anything using his music or material removed.
He even made youtube take down his performance cover of Radiohead's 'Creep' and the song isn't even his!

Upload a song with Prince in it, put that in the title+description and it'll be taken down.
Why else do you think it's hard to find Prince music videos on youtube, and why nobody covers any of his songs?
If they do, they're removed.

It is prince. ITV have no problem with them going on youtube and its only Ruths that has came down. And its saying about how Sony Entertainment cannot let you view this as you dont have the rights. Its not ITV at all.

I picked the first one from Google!

I think it would be pretty easy for Prince "lawyers" to find it, if its the first thing that comes up!

I was glued to the X-Factor, but I hardly found Ruth's rendition of Prince's Purple Rain amazing by any measure of the imagination. When it came down to the vote, the judges chose to deadlock and it was down to the public vote. I'm sure if they found her performance to be that great, they would have voted her in themselves. Apparently they didn't.

However sorry YouTube have taken it down AGAIN!

I'm not surprised that the song had 100,000 hits on Youtube. The X-Factor is a very popular show and many people either go out on Saturday when it is aired and choose to watch the songs on Youtube.com rather than recording the program or many other reasons.

I don't believe for one second that Prince himself has chose to report and then have Youtube remove Ruth's rendition of his song from their site. Someone else could easily have managed that. If someone chooses to record the X-Factor or indeed any other program and then upload it to Youtube.com without prior permission, then you are infringing copyright laws. In which case, they may remove it from their website. That is standard procedure.

I hate Prince, his ego needs serious deflating. He's just a poor man's Micheal Jackson who's WAY past his heyday.

GO AWAY PRINCE YOU'RE NOT NEEDED OR RELEVANT ANYMORE!

And as a result of The X Factor it's jumped back into the Top 50 from absolutely nowhere - not that The Artist Formerly Known as The Artist Formerly Known as Prince shows any gratitude. So don't pay to download the single and give in to his over zealous attitude.

Let's be fair though - anything Ruth sung against Girlband was going to look better - and it wasn't that great a performance and isn't that great a song.

Thats not unusual.

Once upon a time you would need to sell an awful amount of singles to enter the top 50. But nowadays it is mainly downloads and what cd singles do sell is in no way near the amount that used to. It's the sign of the times.

But for Prince showing gratitude. Well maybe he does, but he hasn't announced it publicly. Who knows?

Like I said already, there is no proof that Prince himself has caused the removal of Ruth's rendition of his song from Youtube.com. Nor would there ever be proof.

Purple Rain wasn't a great song. In my opinion it was a bad choice. I would have chosen a slow Gloria Estefan number myself. Something which can really show her true colours.

I think Girlband were/are very poor singers, I'm glad they are out. They should have been out the week previous if it were not for Louis bad choice of song for Bad Lashes. He has only himself to blame for that one. Now he is left with one group. Luckily it's the great JLS.

I think Prince is amazing. I mean, really really talented. Sorry, but that girls' performance of Purple Rain was nowhere near the brilliance of the original. Not that it's her fault - anyone given that song to perform has big boots to fill.

er....who wrote the song in the first place?

Mind you, that's exactly the kind of rubbish which I would expect Heatworld to spout.

Its his song. He wrote it. If he's not happpy with a certain version then that's his prerogative.

Prince has always been fussy. Rumour has it that he's written hundreds of songs that he's never recorded and never will record. one of those was Nothing compares 2 U made famous by Sinead O'Connor. Prince is a true music legend.

she kind of has done him a favour (in a weird way).

Because there is so much talk and annoyance over the fact she nearly went on Saturday after a cracking performance of 'Purple Rain', the sales for 'Purple Rain' on downloads has increased so much that it will be in the Top 50 this week, it looks as though it may even eneter the Top 40.

Not many records do that on downloads alone, and that song has not been in the chart for many years, so she has just made him a little extra money (not that he needs it).

I know he won't see it like that, but she has boosted his awareness in the public eye again, which cannot be a bad thing.

But given she had throat problems and had been throwing up all morning, that was a class performance to pull off in that condition.

It can't be argued that Ruth's performance single handedly brought that song back into the mainstream!? That's no reflection on how good/bad her performance was, it's just based on the amount of publicity that it's received.

Prince has always been an anti-everything type of guy, I'm sure he has a legal team who do all the work for him, but I'm sure I've heard that he's requested all his music to be taken down from YouTube before?

Oh my word. This is one of the most stupid, misinformed articles I've ever had the misfortune to stumble across. Who reads this s***?

First off, hardly any of Prince's videos can be found on youtube, his people get them taken off immediately, it's been that way for years. To suggest Prince even knows about this nonsense is totally far fetched and at worst (and most likely) a complete lie!

Then there's the line about Prince being done a favour. Jesus wept. The ignorance is astounding. We're talking about a man who has sacrificed millions of dollars in record contracts to gain his freedom and creative control. To suggest he cares the slightest bit enough about chart positions and record sales enough to consider this a favour.......well......it's probably about as idiotically ignorant a comment a human being can make on popular music.

I won't even get into the insignificance of each and every X factor performance.

This article is a disservice to everyone who reads it.
