X Factor is a singing contest, not a sympathy contestFormer Bluecoat Scott Bruton says he is not bitter about losing to widower Daniel Evans, who dedicated his song to his wife in the X Factor sing-off.

But we wonder about another victory going to another contestant with a sob story.

Of course, single dad Daniel deserves sympathy for losing his wife. It is a tragedy.

But he does not deserve the judges' votes because of it.

The X Factor is a singing contest... not a sympathy contest.

We cannot have victory going to whoever is the most tragic figure who can hold a tune.

I agree with him 100%. The reason I think that he's still there is because of the story, Nikki got far because of it last year, even though she did a few good performances.

If Daniel is still there in 2 weeks, I will actually start to feel very worried.

Agree with the above. Anyway, my 'sympathy vote' went when Amy wasn't chosen by cheryl. She came across as the one who was REALLY singing for her dad/bereaved mom.........as for daniel, he was lucky to survive in a bottom 2 which I thought WAS the right one.

it realy works doesnt it!

because judges would find it hard to break them knowing about their sad story!
otherwise loius wouldnt cry when voting scott out!

That performance was better than Scotts though in the "sing off"
Yeah he had a bit of a story to back the song up but he sang it better and everything. I was in tears because I could see it in his eyes and through his voice. It was VERY moving. And Scott wouldnt have gone much further anyway because he is very similar to Austin.

If it was a singing contest Daniel would never have made the final twelve.

I agree with that, I think Suzie could have given the girls a run for their money but Dannii put through Daniel instead. It just really annoys me when people say contestants with sob stories win. NO THEY DONT.

oh i dont kno about them winning!

but they do certainly beat other more desrving!

and yerh i realy thought suzie would be in the finals!
and couldnt belive that danni put daniel instead! >.<

id say suzie was in the same level as ruth probably
but as always theres a sob story in their way -.-

i mean do like daniel as a person

but its just not right when they beat others because of how sad their story is :/

i mean their story is sad enough so i dont think they should be given faulse hope.
