BRITISH fans of sexy teen drama Beverly Hills 90210 had better brace themselves - the series is returning on Channel 4 in a glossy new guise.
The broadcaster won the bidding war against Five, ITV2 and Living for the UK rights to the show, which will hit our screens in a revitalised version known simply as 90210.

The series will also air on E4 from early 2009, and a new cast joins original faces Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth.

I've been watching on the US pace too and trust me - it's decent. It will keep you watching but not HALF as good as Gossip Girl the acting is great and if you were a fan on the original series you'll probably be a bit disappointed, it's not as good.

Glad C4 got it though they'll do it justice, I'll probs watch it again at the UK pace now. :blush2:

E4 and Channel 4 have acquired exclusive broadcast rights to the eagerly anticipated 90210 - the hit spin-off of the iconic drama series Beverly Hills 90210, it was jointly announced today by Jeff Ford, Director of Acquisitions, Channel 4 and Film 4, and Armando Nuñez Jr., President, CBS Paramount International Television.

Edgy and contemporary, the “new” 90210 looks at life through the eyes of Annie Wilson (Shenae Grimes, Degrassi: The Next Generation) and her brother Dixon (Tristan Wilds, The Wire), who find themselves at West Beverly Hills High School after their family relocates from Kansas. For Annie and Dixon, the awkwardness of being the new kids at school and getting to grips with all the new cliques is made worse by the fact that their dad Harry (Rob Estes, Melrose Place) has taken a job as the high school principal. He and his wife Debbie (Lori Loughlin, Summerland) have moved to keep an eye on Harry's mother Tabitha (Jessica Walter, Arrested Development). The new series also stars original Beverly Hills 90210 cast members Jennie Garth, as the school’s guidance counsellor Kelly Taylor, and Shannen Doherty, as Brenda Walsh.

90210 will premiere in the UK on E4 in 2009. The deal was brokered by Jeff Ford, Director of Acquisitions, Channel 4 and Film 4, on behalf of Channel 4, and Stephen Tague, Senior Vice President, European Sales, on behalf of CBS Paramount International Television.

Ford said: “90210 is one of the hottest series to come out of the US right now, and we are thrilled that E4 and Channel 4 will be its UK home.”

”We’re thrilled to partner with Channel 4 to be able to introduce UK audiences to 90210,” said Armando Nuñez. “The legacy of the 90210 franchise has excited fans everywhere, making this the hottest new show sought after by broadcasters worldwide.”

90210 is produced by CBS Paramount Network Television with executive producers Gabe Sachs, Jeff Judah (Freaks & Geeks) and Rebecca Kirshner (Gilmore Girls). Mark Piznarski (Gossip Girl) is the director and executive producer of the pilot. 90210 is distributed internationally by CBS Paramount International Television.

I have watched the first 2 episode and from reviews I have seen its not good enough to be on C4 because I don't think a British audience will fully get behind it.
Its been rumoured it will get a Sunday night slot which will be very interesting.
It will do well for E4 but i'm not so sure about C4

Channel 4 always has the best trailers for their programs out of any TV channel I've seen. Their Lost, Desperate Housewives, Skins, British Food Fight, etc. are all well-thought out and in some cases, better than the programs themselves. :tongue:

Im going to watch it. Ive read on some forums that its not as good as its hyped up to be... and the ratings in the US have went from over 5m(highest debut in the channels history as its a low key channel) to about 2.1m now in about 10 episodes.

I have been watching it. Its pretty good, but the acting sometimes is horrible. Some of the characters really suck. The problem with the show is, they try to compare it to the original, and its not really fair, because it would be hard to top that. and thats why the Apparently its not even certain there will be a 2nd season yet.
But they should give them a chance. The characters from the original series also had to grow into themselves.

The only character from 90210 who I don't think works is Brenda. I know she's from the orginal BH90210 but her acting in the new series is poor. She's unbelievable in my opinion. Naomi is a bit cringeworthy at times also because personally I find she over acts, but the cast is quite good.

That was a very good episode. Great characters, I liked most of them.

The original, wasnt that good at first, and I was juat like 10 when watching the last few seasons. but with all the storylines, it got real interesting, and I understan why it became a cult favorite. Get the DVD's of the 1st few seasons, its really good. This one just need to be given a chance.

Dustin Milligan will not be returning to 90210 for the second season, reports Entertainment Weekly.

The actor's contract is not being picked up, but the door will apparently be left open for him to appear at a later date to wrap up Ethan's story.

Executive producer Rebecca Rand Kirshner Sinclair said of season two: "If Gossip Girl is about youth in New York, I want to [make 90210] about youth in L.A. and Beverly Hills."

She added: "The show tried to be a lot of things to a lot of people in its first season. I think the centre lies with the generation of kids that are in high school now. I'm not interested in casting people for stunt value."

Milligan's co-star Matt Lanter, who plays bad boy Liam, has recently been promoted to a series regular.

Ethan's a crap character anyway, he has the depth of a teaspoon and the actor can't act for crap. Now if we could only jettison annie somewhere far away and replace both of them with soemone INTERESTING.

The show's getting better I think, It doesn't compare to things like OC or GG though, they truly rule the Teen Drama Genre. The main problem with the show as mentioned above is Annie and Ethan, they're dull as hell. I liked Annie at the start when Ty was around but now she's boring. I like all the other characters although they do need to be made more interesting. Tabatha needs a bigger role she's one of the better characters.

But Annie knew that Naomi was not okay with it after she got to know her. Well dont matter anyway, Jason wasnt saying No to Naoimi either and vica versa for Ethan and Annie. So they are all as bad as each other, its not just Naoimi that was being a bitch, i guess it was just revenge.

It has shocking product placement. A few episodes back when Naomi was getting in with the group of girls the kept showing close-ups of the T-mobile logo and the said 'set my Sidekick' instead of phone. I hate product placement, totally takes you out of the program I think.

Smallville did a similar thing a few years ago without the closeups and speaking to the camera. One of the characters kept referring to her char as the make instead of a car, so like she said 'take my Yaris!' which just sounded awkward.
