I was think that if one of the major flaws of the format is that the Judges are the mentors, then why not have a separate Judges and Mentors.

So what you end up with is say, Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne as the judges and then have separate mentors like Dannii Minogue, Cheryl Cole etc...

Now you still have the competition within a competition idea with the mentors battling it out but now you have independent Judges who can give an honest opinion of the acts and fairly judge the sing off.
