She'll get signed along with Rachel, Diana, JLS and Alexandra.

Simon probably wants Laura to be Sony's version of Amy Winebox

That is the point and that is why ITV won't take the petition seriously.

It was a shame she went when she wasn't the worse singer on the night, but she gone and it's not ITV's fault and it's not phone rigging by the people that produce the show.

Hit the nail on the head there.

Maria Lawson's probably the most successful X Factor artist in relation to where she finished on the show, I don't think there's ever really been anybody who's done well who's come that low (8th place, out of 12 - just like Laura!)

Z
09-11-2008, 06:31 PM
Also, regarding Maria's elimination:

"This was also a complete shock for Bookmakers who had Lawson as a 66/1 outsider to leave the programme."

66/1... ringing any bells?

She hasn't done that well though really.

I know, but she did release an album and get a song into the top 20 in the charts, hence "successful" and especially for someone finishing so low.

She's gone.
The better singer stayed, get over it.

I hate the way these things go around.

If you cared about her staying that much you would have voted. The producers don't care how many people sign that, she was eliminated fairly, end of. Get over it.

That's only one part of the petition though, I think it's mostly focusing on trying to get her a record deal. I haven't signed it personally, but the petition isn't really based on wanting her back in the competition.

Fair enough. But there was one for Austin, Scott and even Girlband, it's completely stupid.

I agree with you, there's little point to petitions to get people back into the competition - there can only be one winner. I do feel sorry for Laura, I feel she was the victim of one of the biggest shams in talent show history (Diana getting a bye into next week, Chris Moyles actively supporting Daniel, Rachel's sob story, Simon and Louis keeping in Ruth who has been in the bottom two before - evidently she isn't going to be around for much longer)

Instead of wasting your time signing a petition that will do NOTHING, why didnt you use that same energy a few days ago to pick up the phone and vote? The people who have signed that could have kept her out of the bottom 2.

If you really cared that much, you should have voted for her more. It has happened now, if she is put back it is a complete outrage that she is given a second chance even though she has been voted out by the public (and judges) who can't have wanted her in that badly in the first place.

Out of the 10.19 million people that watched the show, 37,504 complained.

Lets look at the maths:

Only 0.368% of the audience has complained, now if they didn't watch this week the average audience will be about 10.15 million people. Now that's still larger than Strictly Come dancing with an average audience of 9.61 million.

Now given the maths, do you think they will really care? Will they do something about it?

She shouldn't have gone, but don't blame ITV, blame the public that follow fools like Moyles or vote for acts because they feel sorry for them.

robb
13-11-2008, 11:35 AM
Well I agree with above. But this has certainly become a 'maria lawson' moment.......just to say that I thought ruth edged a top-quality sing -off. Neither should have been down there, but their first songs didn't showcase their talents enough. Cowell has undermined ruth as well as laura. Remember week2, when he voted for girlband AFTER purple rain?? Don't just blame walsh, it goes deeper. Just to also say that the 2-pronged attack of the petition also confuses the issue.

robb
13-11-2008, 11:45 AM
There is a story in the sun that she may be 'coming back'...............I just want to add that for laura and ruth to be singing off for EIGHTH place was an insult. There are far, far less convincing or consistent acts still in it. But neither of them have tapped into the teeny/sympathy votes which keep these acts sailing through each week.

Which is part of the game! It shouldn't be but it is! You can get hundreds of thousand of signatures it wouldn't matter because the producers will just take it with pinch of salt! 12 million people watch the show and you have got about 30,000 signatures it really wouldn't not matter. Laura is gone she is not coming back in the competition, sorry.

Chillingly though, louis walsh has said since that once you are in the bottom 2, you are out of the running anyway. This is probably true of course. And so they aren't gonna care too much about the likes of ruth OR laura, are they?
