My mum went to the surgeon last week and he told her he COULD conduct 3 ops on her... and even better, she might be able to walk again! She has not been able to walk for ~25 years.

It hasn't really sunk in yet. As you can imagine, it's weird of me even contemplate my mum walking when I've never seen it!

My dad is buying her a puppy of any breed she wants, cos when they were first married they'd go on long walks with the dogs.

Yeah, I'm still not quite believing it.
I mean, the surgeon explicitly said she'll have full mobility but I'm still being wary. However, we know for a fact she'll be in a lot less pain and be more mobile than now = so no matter what happens it's amazing!

Her first 2 operations are in January, then the final is in March.

Wow they sound so enthusiastic and positive about the outcome for these operations. I know she will need a lot of physio to deal with muscle waste from being immobile for so long but it really sounds like it is happening :cheer:

Thank you very much everyone :flowers:

I'll let you all know how the operations go.
Just after xmas she has to have a cast on her leg for 3 weeks so it manually cracks and straightens the bone. It won't be pretty but she knows it's worth it.

I'm 19.

She could, but only small amounts. She could walk me to school on crutches but she was in pain.

Over the last ~10 years it's been so bad she struggles to be mobile at all.

Thank you.

She went to a general hospital meeting thing on the 17th and they told her they do expect her to walk. I'm surprised how positive they're being.

Thank you Angie

Miracles can always happen, the fact they exist at all can give us hope in all areas of life.

That's amazing Lauren. I didn't see this thread, cuz it was made before I got back, and I didn't know yer mum was disabled either.

It'll be fantastic for all of you to have her walking again. It's funny how we all take things like that for granted though isn't it.. walking the dog, walking the kids to school etc. Just puts it into perspective.

I hope it all goes well. It all sounds really positive anyway, and docs aren't famous for giving false hope, so they must be pretty confident.

*hugs*
