Kanye West has reportedly described himself as "God's vessel", and that he was destined for fame in order to spread the word through his music.

The 31-year-old, who once said he aimed to be "the best" performer of his generation, insisted that a higher power had secured his musical success.

Speaking during VH1 show Storytellers, West said: "God chose me. He made a path for me. I am God's vessel."

The rapper added that his "greatest pain" in life was that he will never be able to see himself perform live.

Kanye West has been charged with three criminal misdemeanours in relation to a camera-smashing incident at LAX Airport.

The rapper has been charged with vandalism, battery and grand theft after he allegedly broke a camera light last September, TMZ reports.

West's manager Don Crowley has also been charged with two counts of vandalism, two counts of battery and two counts of grand theft after he was accused of breaking a still camera and another belonging to the website.

Both men are due in court to face the charges on April 14 and could face a jail sentence for the offences.

That was Kanye West, onstage Saturday night at the Levi's Fader Fort, lashing out at his detractors (or, as he put it, "the motherf---ers who want to f--- with" him), a large and seemingly ever-growing contingent that, on this weekend, included those who didn't believe he should have been at South by Southwest, even if it was to host a showcase for his label, G.O.O.D. Music.

Those purists -- the South By vets who remember the good old days, when bands came to Austin looking for that elusive record deal, and when every event wasn't sponsored by a mobile device -- were probably going out of their heads on Saturday, 24 hours dominated by globally successful rapper/producers, celebrity bloggers and toothsome TV chefs. It was SXSW gone Hollywood -- parties by Rachael Ray and Perez Hilton, even rumored Robert Pattinson sightings -- and, to be honest, West's showcase should've been the least of their worries.

Because it was, in essence, just a decent 90-minute Kanye concert, albeit one bereft of sexy holograms and smoky moonscapes. His appearance was perhaps the second worst-kept secret of the entire week (Metallica's Friday night show at Stubb's takes top honors in that category), and hours before the G.O.O.D. showcase's scheduled 8 p.m. start time, the line of SXSW badge-holders looking to get in stretched the entire length of the Fader Fort.



Of course, those folks would be waiting a long time. West didn't take the stage until it was nearly 10 p.m., but when he finally did -- decked out in a denim vest, dark shades on his face -- he more than made up for the delay. Backed by the usual assortment of characters (a pair of DJs, a guitarist and drummer in riot gear, a female backup singer with shoulder pads like the Legion of Doom), he ripped through a few verses of "Amazing," welcomed fans to the future and then slipped into his primary role of the evening: Emcee.

And not of the rapping variety.

Because for the next hour, 'Ye played hypeman to a string of G.O.O.D. artists -- Consequence, GLC, Big Sean -- spitting a verse here or there, urging the crowd to throw their hands in the air, etc. It wasn't the West most were expecting, and during some of the, uh, lesser moments (the Fonzworth Bentley step routine, a cringe-worthy set by British crooner Mr. Hudson), they made their displeasure known by streaming toward the exits. But then Kanye, ever the showman, would lure them back with snippets of his own tunes, like "Diamonds From Sierra Leone" or "Crack Music."

That's not to say there weren't some genuinely excellent moments, though. West traded verses with up-and-comers 88 Keys ("Stay Up (Viagra)") and Kid Cudi ("Welcome to Heartbreak") and shared a genuinely jaw-dropping freestyle session with Common and Eryah Badu(!). And when welcomed the entire G.O.O.D. roster onto the stage for the one-two punch of "Good Life" and "Love Lockdown," he had the entire crowd going bananas (even if he did flub a line or two because he "got too excited"). He shouted out each member of his roster as the applause built, then moved on to the evening's sponsors, taking special care to instruct Levi's to "cut the check."

Hey, at least he's honest. And somewhere, a SXSW loyalist's head spontaneously combusted.

But their nightmare was far from over. As if dealing with Rachael Ray's second-annual South By soiree (sets by the Hold Steady and the Thermals, delicious themed beverages) wasn't enough, they had put up with Perez Hilton, who was back in town for his "One Night in Austin" party.

Held in the same supermarket-turned-mega club that Jane's Addiction destroyed on Thursday, Hilton's party had a "Divas" theme, featuring sets by Little Boots and Ladyhawke (Lady Sovereign was a no-show, which led Hilton to call her a "c--t" live onstage), plus a surprise appearance by the Indigo Girls. Seriously.

Hilton himself wore a replica of Aretha Franklin's inauguration hat and seemed genuinely nonplussed by the fact that his party was in direct competition with West's.

Of course, that point proved moot when West popped in for a quick five-song performance, to the squealed delight of all in attendance.

And then, having fused their powers to become some sort of celebrified Voltron, Kanyez then set out to destroy all vestiges of this once very un-celeb event. Or usher it into the future. Depends on your point of view.

How can we say this nicely? Kanye West can be a wee bit of a control freak. It's not really a secret, though; the producer and rapper has spoken out in the past about the lengths to which he goes to create his art — whether it's mixing songs over and over again or tediously planning out his Glow in the Dark spectacular. The result of his passion, however, usually leads to universally amazing work.

But how does it feel when West brings you into his highly detailed world? The 808s & Heartbreak rapper graces the cover of the April/May issue of Complex, and Editor in Chief Noah Callahan-Bever said West was heavily involved in the layout. 'Ye appears as a computer-generated image in the spread, as opposed to participating in a traditional photo shoot. The high-tech concept was his idea, which he delivered during an unexpected time.


"Kanye called me at, like, 7:45 in the morning on a Sunday with the idea," Callahan-Bever told MTV News last week about the genesis of the concept. "Two days later, he calls back and says him and [director] Chris Milk are gonna do the illest sh-- ever. And he said he'd send me the pictures. He ends up sending me pictures of him in this 3-D scanning chamber. He's in this sphere with a million cameras on him. He got with the studio that did the CGI work on 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.' They never did a still shoot in this imaging before. So Kanye is telling me how they scanned him to have his likeness and are putting him in this computer world. I mean, what could I say? I was like, 'Uh, OK.' "

The rapper was originally scheduled to appear in the February/March issue of the magazine. The photo shoot took place during a layover as West made his way from Germany to New Zealand.

"It was very rushed," Callahan-Bever admitted. "He was tired. This was right after Thanksgiving. We ended up bumping the cover, and he said he'd do a new shoot for us when he was off his tour schedule."

Two months later, the rapper offered his time, energy and even his own director for the new shoot. Milk has helmed the West videos "All Falls Down," "Touch the Sky" and a version of "Jesus Walks." 'Ye brought him onboard to carry out the plan and praised his collaborator's vision.

"He's really dedicated to his work and pulling out really great art," West told Complex in a behind-the-scenes video clip. "He doesn't get caught up in any of the Hollywood-ness of it."

Complex magazine's seventh-anniversary issue is set to arrive on newsstands this week.

Kanye West closes Wireless festival with crystal-themed show


Kanye West headlined the second and final day of London's Wireless festival last night (July 5).

Playing to a near-capacity crowd in the capital's Hyde Park, the Atlanta, Georgia star treated the audience to a hit-laden set that saw him perform on a stage decked out with white pyramid and crystal-shaped monitors and amplifiers.

Wearing his customary aviator shades and black suit jacket throughout the performance, West kicked-off proceedings by playing 'Coldest Winter' from latest album '808s & Heartbreak' (2008).

Although he wasn't joined by any musical guests during the show, West showcased several of his best-loved collaborations, including 'American Boy' (originally released with Estelle) and 'Gold Digger' (released as a collaboration with Jamie Foxx). He introduced the latter track by saying: "This is the story of my life."

During 'Tell Everybody That You Know', four topless dancers wearing tiaras and body paint joined the rapper-producer, crowding around him while he performed the song on a raised section of the stage. They remained onstage for the duration of the set, dancing alongside West as he sang a medley of hits that included crowd favourites 'Diamonds From Sierra Leone', and 'Jesus Walks'.

Speaking to the audience, West hailed 'Say You Will' his favourite track on '808s & Heartbreak' before delivering an impassioned version of the song. Later in the set, he performed an extended version of 'Love Lockdown' that saw the track take a dancier, more beat-heavy direction, much to the crowd's delight.

After finishing final track 'Stronger', West bowed to the audience before saying he "loved" them and exiting the stage.

Earlier in the day, West protégé played to a packed out Tuborg Stage, with many fans crowding the relatively small tent to find out exactly why the hip-hop superstar has signed the British band, led by Ben Hudson, to his G.O.O.D. Music label.

Hudson played tracks including the unreleased 'White Lies' (which features on their forthcoming West co-produced album 'Straight No Chaser') and 'Ask The DJ', both of which drew positive responses from crowd members.

Throughout the set, fans chanted "Oh Hudson, we love you," at the frontman, who at one point remarked: "Thanks for the football chants, I think. You're all sounding very good!"

Elsewhere, Calvin Harris played a ten-song set on the festival's Main Stage. The Scottish producer-singer performed material ranging from his two recorded albums (the second of which, 'Ready For The Weekend' is released on August 17), and gave numerous shout-outs to the Hyde Park crowd.

During 'The Girls', he changed the lyrics to "I like those Wireless girls", resulting in mass cheers from the audience. The singer's recent UK Number One single 'I'm Not Alone' also garnered ecstatic reactions from the crowd, while 'Merrymaking At My Place' and 'Acceptable In The 80's' saw many fans sing along.

Playing a mid-afternoon set, Noisettes got the Main Stage crowd moving when they played hits including 'Don't Upset The Rhythm' and 'Saturday Night', while 'Britain's Got Talent' winners Diversity also put in an appearance, much to the crowd's delight. Kanye West has reportedly asked Wimbledon champion Serena Williams to be his tennis coach.

The rapper met the iconic player at the after-show party in Paramount club following London’s Wireless festival, the Sun reports.

He is said to have told her that the game is his newfound love. “Tennis is my new thing. I love it,” West said.

The singer also reportedly praised Serena for defeating her sister Venus in the Wimbledon final.

Paramore, Lady GaGa and Kanye West were all winners at the annual Teen Choice Awards in Los Angeles last night.

The awards, held at Universal Studios' Gibson Ampitheater, were voted for by a phenomenal 83million teens between the ages of 13 and 19 around the globe and honour achievements music, movies, sports, television and fashion.

The best Music Rap Artist gong went to Kanye West, Paramore took home the Music Rock Group award while Lady GaGa was named the Choice Music Hookup for 'Just Dance'.

It was only a matter of time before Kanye West ventured onto the silver screen…well, into the world of short films anyway.

Kanye has appeared in a Spike Jonze’s short film, which features a version of West’s song See You In My Nightmares, remixed by Jonze’s brother, one half of N.A.S.A - Squeak E.Clean.

The film, entitled We Were Once A Fairytale reportedly sees a bewildered Mr. West drunkenly boasting in a club, hallucinating, sleeping with a pillow and ripping a demon from his stomach…nice!

This is not the first time the Where The Wild Things Are director has teamed up with Kanye.

Jonze also directed the video for West’s 2008 hit Flashing Lights which was arguably one of the best videos of last year so expectations are high for this 15 minute short film.

According to Jonze’s blog, We Were Once A Fairytale is to be released via iTunes on September 8th.

Why do I compare thee to Adebayor? Because the football world is in a tizzy because of some of the actions by the striker in Saturday's win over the Gunners.

Some of it warranted - his stomping of former teammate Robin van Persie is about as ugly an act as you'll see this season.

Some of it a bit overreactive - yes, Adebayor proved to be a little cuss by running like Usain Bolt to the other end of the pitch to antagonize the Arsenal faithful who made the trip to Eastlands. But really, all he did there was give Arsenal fans more of a reason to be rid of the tempermental player who never achieved all that he could have in North London.

West will be the entertainment world's villain for the next few days, until someone else does something stupid that makes the tabloids light up.

The rapper has the most nominations for the ceremony- which will take place in Atlanta in October.

Lil Wayne and Jay-Z are both up for seven BET- Black Entertainment Television- awards. LL Cool J will pick up a special lifetime achievement prize.

Let’s hope West behaves himself this time. On Sunday he jumped on stage as Taylor Swift was accepting an award and said Beyonce was better.

Kanye West showed off his charitable side by taking time out to serve a holiday lunch for homeless people on Saturday.


The "Stronger" rapper and his model girlfriend Amber Rose turned up at The Los Angeles Mission, where they volunteered in the kitchen and donned aprons to dish out hot meals to those in need.



He says, "It's just important (to give back) when you're very blessed. (It's nice) to spread your blessings and take time out, especially during the holidays to appreciate people who never get that appreciation. It makes me feel really good to come out here and I just thank y'all for allowing us to be apart of this."



The Los Angeles Mission is located in the downtown Skid Row district, which contains one of the largest populations of homeless people in the U.S.

Katy Perry is getting ready to release yet another single off her ultra-successful “Teenage Dream” album, and she’s mixing it up by including “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” rapper Kanye West.

West will be featured on Perry’s upcoming single “E.T.” The track is officially being serviced to radio this week.

The track sees her re-teaming with Max Martin and Dr. Luke, who also produced her #1 hits “California Gurls” and “Teenage Dream.” On the track she sings to an “extra-terrestrial” futuristic lover.

The two stars have already shot a video for their collaboration, which features Perry looking out-of-this-world in an space-themed futuristic get-up. The video was shot by Floria Sigismondi, responsible for Christina Aguilera’s “Fighter” and Marilyn Manson’s “The Beautiful People.”

“E.T.” is the fourth single of Perry’s multi-platinum “Teenage Dream.” It’ll follow the#1 hit title track, “California Gurls” with Snoop Dogg, and “Firework.”

Yeezy of Arabia: Kanye West to Make Film in Middle East

The Observer has learned that Kanye West, the multi-platinum rapper and Twitter super-user recently sent representatives to the Persian Gulf region to scout locations for a short film. The project, which will take a form much like his 30-minute “Runaway”—a hybrid art film and music video starring model Selita E. Banks that premiered on MTV in October, 2010—is to be filmed in March.

Sources tell The Observer that Mr. West sent members of his team to meet with film companies and government officials based out of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Doha Qatar to explore the idea of a production. A number of local municipal officials and film companies are said to be engaged in what was characterized as a heated bidding war for the contracts involved in bringing Mr. West’s vision to life.

“In Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Doha all of the film initiatives are government controlled,” one source involved in the talks explained. “A bidding war is going on between various government entities and private investors to fund the film. There’s pretty intense rivalry here between Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Qatar. They all want to claim the film as their own and take credit for generating the publicity.”

Part of the reason for the excitement? The story—plot details of which were not divulged by one source “out of respect for Kanye’s ambition”—was conceived by the rapper explicitly to take place in the Gulf. He is said to have fallen in love with the region after a concert performance last year in Abu Dhabi.

Mr. West’s creative team is moving to the region for a few weeks, as part of an effort to create an “authentic” depiction of the culture. They plan to utilize local talent and production crews, and are said to be eager to portray the locales and their cultures in a positive light, mindful of recent productions that ran afoul of local sensibilities (2011′s Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol was cited as one example).

“His reps seemed genuinely enthusiastic about creating a piece which highlights the culture accurately,” our source explained. “There’s a lot of preconceived notions and stereotypes about Emiratis and Qataris, which Westerners often play up. They discussed how Kanye is looking to bridge the cultural divide and break misconceptions.” Mr. West also reportedly plans to cast some local royalty, as “many of the Sheikhs like to be flashy and appreciate celebrity notoriety.”

Mr. West once rapped: “Spit it till you say / lil West’s a little beast / And make the middle west / blow like the Middle East.” Prophetic? Kind of?

Mr. West’s representatives did not respond to immediate request for comment; we will update this report if they do.

Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music album will share a name with Cruel Summer, the seven-screen film experience he debuted at this year's Cannes Film Festival. Pusha-T told Hot 97 last night (via HipHopDX) that the album has an August 7 release date. Frank Ocean, Jay Electronica, Big Sean, and more, also appear on the album.

Pusha-T also claims we'll hear another Clipse album someday, too.

Kanye fell off years ago though. I Don't Like was an absolute banger, but that was a banger before he remixed it so I don't really count it. The best thing he can do is bring out a G.O.O.D Music album. Pusha & Big Sean are both spitting alot better than him at the moment in my opinion.

Kanye West nominated for 17 BET Hip Hop Awards
ATLANTA — Kanye West hasn't released a solo album since 2010, but the rapper has kept relevant with another strong year.

Now, BET is taking notice.

West received the most nominations with 17 for the seventh annual BET Hip-Hop Awards, which will air Oct. 9. The rapper has had a big year as a producer, performer and director. He also collaborated with Jay-Z on the album, "Watch the Throne."

The nominations were announced Wednesday.

The ceremony will be taped Sept. 29 at Atlanta's Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center. Actor and comedian Mike Epps will return as host for the fourth straight year.

Hip-hop mogul Chris Lighty, who committed suicide earlier this month, will be honored during the show. Lighty was the manager for Mariah Carey, Sean "Diddy" Combs and 50 Cent.

Kanye West has finished recording his new album, according to reports.

Stateside hip-hop radio station Hot97 – via The Line Of Best Fit - have stated that West has completed work on the follow-up to 2010's 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy'.

The station revealed that West's label Def Jam recently hosted a listening event for the album, the rapper's sixth solo offering.

DJ Paul Rosenberg said: "Everyone at the label that listened to the album loved it. I've heard it's dark, but really good".

Daft Punk have worked on tracks on the new Kanye West album.

The French duo recently revealed in Rolling Stone that they have made two songs with the rapper, who was "screaming primally" on his vocal takes.

"It was very raw: he was rapping – kind of screaming primally, actually," Thomas Bangalter told the US magazine with Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo adding. "Kanye doesn't give a ****."

Film director Michel Gondry also said that he has heard two songs from the new album sessions, saying: "One of them, I told him it sounded solid and powerful – I envisioned a cube when I heard it. He told me, Chris Cunningham's already directing the video!"

Kanye West previously claimed that he would release new music "in a couple of months" during a gig in March. "I wanna tell y'all that I'm working on some new ****," he told the crowd at his show at Zénith in Paris. "It's gonna be out in a couple of months."
