Will It Be A Hit!?
The Ultimate All-In-One Gadget!

of great handsets out there, no-one has yet designed one that covers every single feature impeccably.

However, gadget magazine T3 reckons it might have cracked it. T3, in collaboration with design company The Alloy, has come up with the 01, a mobile which seamlessly integrates a camera, games machine, GPS unit and full web browser in a sleek slice of black metal.

It's a project that's still at the "wouldn't it be cool if…?" concept stage, but those behind it are serious about taking it further.

"Consumers deserve better mobile phones than what's available currently, and as all the technology we've featured in the 01 Phone is possible, we don't see why manufacturers can't build something similar," said Katherine Hannaford from T3.com.

In fact, The Alloy is currently creating a working prototype, so you may soon be able to get hold of your own 01.

The exterior

The 01 Phone comes packing a huge touchscreen. Tucked away inside that cool exterior is a full, multi-function QWERTY keyboard.

"The original design has a virtual laser keyboard, which we thought was suitably futuristic, but in practical terms it wasn't smart enough to include on our next design," said Hannaford.

"Using virtual laser keyboards, which project a keyboard-shape onto your lap or desk, tend to be a bit uncomfortable for fingers so we had to look at including a slide-out QWERTY keyboard instead."

The Underside

The back of the 01 Phone looks just as smart as the front. Towards the bottom of the phone, you can see the lens for the 5-megapixel camera. The black stick above that is a mini-phone.

The Underside

The mini-phone slides out of the back of the 01 phone. It gives you basic functions, so you make quick calls without needing to get your phone out of your bag or pocket.

It's made of flexible material, so you can even wrap the mini-phone around your wrist.

The Stylus

You can operate the touchscreen using either your fingers or this multi-touch stylus.

QWERTY keyboard

The phone includes a full QWERTY keypad that slides out to make it easier to write text messages.

"It changes interface depending on the function being used on the phone at that time," said Hannaford.

"When using the 5-megapixel camera, the keypad brings up camera-related buttons. Likewise, when browsing the internet the keypad displays only internet-related buttons."

Wireless Earphones

Underneath the slide-out keypad are two wireless earphones. These pop out and can be moulded into a comfortable shape to fit in your ear.

Camera Function

The functions available on the keypad change depending on which feature you are using. Here the camera is being operated. All the function buttons are displayed on the keypad, leaving the whole of the screen free to display the image.

Gaming

Switch into gaming mode and the 01's keypad displays a full game controller set-up.

Looks good and it would be cool to have but then think of the problems that may occur... And also.. I like my phone just to call, text and surf.

I still like carrying an iPod and a PSP. I dont know if I would want them all on one.

It's ok, I wouldn't bother getting it, I only need a phone that makes calls, sends text messages, and takes pictures.
