Big Brother runner-up Jason Cowan has agreed to meet his birth mother, it was reported today.

The Scots muscle-man is said to have spoken on the phone to Jane Astrauskas, 46, who gave birth to Jason when she was 15-years-old.

She gave him up when he was only two and has not seen her son in nearly three decades, despite living only six miles away from him in Wishaw, Lanarkshire.

The former binman, from Hamilton, will meet Jane over the weekend, the Sun newspaper said.

Jason’s London-based agent Carina Trimmingham refused to comment on the report today.

She said: “I really can’t say anything about it.”

Before the show started, Jason, 30, had no idea who his real mother was and told fellow contestants he wanted to track her down.

Jane’s identity was revealed in the press days later and she is reported to have watched every episode of Big Brother before begging to meet her son at the final.

However, Jason’s best friend Alan Strachan is said to have felt it would be too traumatic for him to meet her after 10 weeks in the house.

After his eviction, Jason spoke to a counsellor and learned about his real mother in a debriefing session.

Since leaving the Big Brother house Jason has kept a low profile and did not attend the reunion barbecue with host Dermot O’Leary and the other housemates last Sunday.

Jason reunited with long-lost mum

Jason has had a "tearful reunion" with his biological mother, The Sun reports today.

The BB runner-up, 30, hasn't seen Jane Astrauskas since she gave him up to foster care when he was just two years old.

As reported last week, Jan left a message saying she wanted to meet up with Jason again after he left the show.

The news is apparently the real reason that Jason missed the BBLB reunion and after-show party last week.

After returning to his home in Scotland, Jason asked his adoptive parents' permission then made the call to his mother.

"It’s a lot for him to take in. He wanted to get away from all the housemates and let it sink in," a friend told the newspaper. "He spoke to his adoptive parents and cleared it with them before making the emotional call to his mum.

"It’s a mad thing to have to sink in and it’s affected him in a huge way. He just couldn’t be around any cameras or other people while he dealt with it."

Jason will meet up with Jane face-to-face after fulfilling interview commitments.

I hope that things work out for him and that he now feels that he has that feeling of being wanted that he talked about in the house. I like Jay a lot but it is obvious to everyone that he has issues about Needing to be liked and not wanting to be rejected I am sure this must stem from his mum giving him up for adoption

Agony of woman who adopted BB star

BIG Brother housemate Jason Cowan's adoptive mum says his plans to meet his birth mother are 'a slap in the face'.

The posing, perma-tanned muscleman was taken in by Eleanor Cowan, 74, when he was a toddler.

But she had no idea trainee air steward Jason, 30, who was BB5's runner-up, had entered the reality show.

And she has been upset by his reunion with his birth mother, Jane Astrouskas, 45.

Her son Gordon, 37, said: 'My mum is a very strong and dignified woman but news of Jason's reunion with Jane is like a slap in the face for her.

'It's odd Jane seems to want to see him now he is in the spotlight and has money behind him.

'If it hadn't been for Big Brother, I don't think she would ever have bothered to see him.'

Jason's sister Alice said she was stunned by the BB star, who now lives in Manchester, claiming he had a tough childhood.

She said: 'We are all adopted so we understand what it's like but when we opened the newspapers it just hit you in the face.'

Eleanor had to leave her home in Motherwell, Lanarkshire, and move in with Alice, 42, to avoid jibes from people unimpressed by Jason's moody on-screen antics.

Gordon said: 'She was completely caught off guard and we could all have done with some warning from Jason.

'She dotes on him as he is the youngest of all of us.'

Eleanor fostered Jason, whose birth mum was only 15 when she had him, when he was two and adopted him as a teenager.

Gordon said the last time Jason saw Eleanor was Christmas and he has not contacted them since he left the BB house last week.
