DIANA DUMPS EOGHANHEARTBREAKER Diana Vickers was caught up in a double dose of controversy before last night’s crunch show.
First there were claims that show bosses were unfairly backing her to win the series by giving the green light for a solo concert in her home town a week tomorrow.
Then it was claimed that the 17-year-old had dented Eoghan Quigg’s chances – hours before going on stage.
The quirky Blackburn babe, struck up a close friendship with smitten Irish schoolboy Eoghan, 16, not long after the series started.
Insiders said the pair had become sweethearts. But dramatically, just before last night’s show, she ruled out a romance.
She said: “No, we are not an item.”
Diana then rubbed salt in the wound by revealing she is back with boyfriend Chris Jones.
The Lancashire lass, who sang Britney’s hit I’m Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman, said: “Eoghan’s cute and sweet but looking at my boyfriend and Eoghan there’s no comparison at all.”
We can reveal that X Factor chiefs also helped draw up plans for an open-air gig in Blackburn just five days before the final is due.
One fan fumed: “It’s as if they are desperate for her to be in the final.”
