The slap is pretty brutal, apparently the advert has recived a bunch of complaints and has had to be slightly re-edited since the original broadcast

The ASA has back this advert (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7774580.stm)
A hard-hitting TV commercial for children's charity Barnardo's will continue to be screened, despite attracting almost 500 complaints.
Viewers - including some child abuse victims - had complained its repeated scenes of a young girl being hit and later taking drugs were distressing.
But the Advertising Standards Authority said the issues raised justified the use of such "shocking" images.
Barnardo's said the advert highlighted the "vicious cycle" of abuse and crime.

agree they are hard hitting for a reason same as the drink drive ones and the nspcc ones, its just a snippet of what could be very much real life for someone and by complaining people are to me showing no compassion to those people who are having to go through it

Yeh its hard hitting excuse the pun! But its supposed to be to wake people up to a problem that exists and is far worse than that slap. We're too isolated in our own little bubbles and dont want to face the harsh realities some people have to live with. I already have a direct debits with NSPCC and Amnesty and Im going to set one up with Barnados on the strength of that ad.

I think hard-hitting is necessary for things like this. I agree with Netto. People like to pretend this kind of thing isn't going on, so having "in your face" ads forces the viewer to sit up and take notice.

The advert should not be re-edited it needs to be shown its hard hitting for a reason otherwise people would not take it seriously

totally agree a lot of people try to ignore the fact this kinda thing goes on i have seen it first hand i was in a violent relationship and it lost me a lot of 'friends' cos they would rather not believe such things were happening and would much prefere being in there own peachy world where nothing bad ever happened,
i give to charity when i can including shopping in charity shops and this year am giving some old clothes and toys to the local womans refuge cos as i said further up sadly this time of year there is more instances of things

I think it is a very well thought out and very powerful advertisement. My 15 year old finds it difficult to watch, she thinks it sends a bigger message than the kids when they are little ones, she finds it very disturbing but admits it makes her think about others a lot.
