View Full Version : Disrespect towards Eoghan

Spike

I'm not just saying this because i'm a fan of Eoghan.
Why do people not say his name correctly, a lot of people are calling him eggy or eggnog or crap like that. I think its really disrespectful and as it was pointed out to me earlier possible could even be seen as racism.

Jades mum got Shilpa's name wrong in CBB5 unintentionally but she was called a racist. People are purposly calling Eoghan these names yet nothing is said.

I do think that people making fun of his name is offensive and he doesn't really deserve it IMO.

how is it racism, what just because its an Irish name and some people tack the mick out of the way its spelt that means they are racist.

Not on this forum, compared to others. And no, its not racism, its just a joke, like some people called stu , stupid!

it's actually ridiculous that people can't remember six letters sometimes and counter their idiocy by calling him egghoan etc. etc.

Sometimes i feel Northern Ireland should just ditch britain, they clearly don't this ****!

Agreed. I'm actually really fed up with people doing it now, it makes them look like complete idiots because they're not able to say someones name correctly just because it's spelt differently (and yes I know it's just a joke).

But it's not racism, just disrespectful and pathetic.

im not an Eoghan fan or anything, infact im a huge hater but i realy dont like how the Eggnog thing is still going.fair enough, its a joke but it got old after it was used the millionth time.his name isnt spelt wierd, its spelt in a different language.its not racism, its ignorance.

i find it rude as well, people wouldnt like it if you made a play on their name and called them something different so shouldnt be doing it to someone else

Well I've never disrespected his name (neither have the majority of britain, isnt that why he's in the final), and after hearing him sing I would have thought this was the least of his worries.

His christian name I think is very aptly chosen its 6 letters long of which 2 (a third) are silent, rather like his performances which are often dominated by the backing singers.
I just think its a pity his surname wasnt FACE, then the comedy element alone would have made him at least a little bit more entertaining.:joker:

Cause hes crappy, terrible, puglooking and shouldn't be there (I call him Eoghan anyway - but hes crap). How the hell could it be seen as racism :| If you think its racism then you need to actually find out what racism is.

Some people struggle to spell his name and he makes fun of it himself a lot which you would have seen if you've watched Xtra Factor.

I do watch Xtra Factor but it started before he had mentioned it and he doesn't make fun of it to the extent as others do
If people struggle to spell his 6 letter name after it is shown on screen about 5 times every Saturday night and when others are spelling it correctly on the same forum or are saying it correctly in the same conversation then the only conclusion is ignorance.

I dont think its racist at all. I just think some Brits have a problem with the fact that its spelt the way it is. Racist:rolleyes:

RACIST? Lol, learn the meaning first please. I think Eoghan is disrespected in the way that everyone thinks he is dreadful, but nhe is clearly capable.

Its not as simple as that. There are loads of words that I come across every day and write them, but still can't spell them. That doesn't mean anything.

And if Eoghan doesn't mind it, e.g. on Xtra Factor "is it Eoghan or eggnog?" and having the directors chair with his name crossed out about 5 times, then why should we bother?

I agree totally.

How would they feel if people kept saying their name wrongly? Over and over again. It would get very annoying! My friend is called Keziah (Kez-ee-ah) and people say Kez-eye-ah and stuff, it annoys her alot.. x

TheMac
12-12-2008, 06:11 PM
Annoying isn't the same as racism, plus everyone knows how to pronounce his name

supernoodles!
12-12-2008, 06:12 PM
Its not ignorance its just lack of knowledge, not everyone sees Eoghan`s name appear on the screen every saturday and don`t read about the xfactor,so unless their Irish themselves then I think they have an excuse. My sister is called Niamh, again an Irish name and people spell and pronounce it incorrectly all the time,I don`t see it as ignorance its just lack of knowledge.
Then of course there are some members on tibb who do use the nickname just for a joke, because they don`t particularly like him.I don`t think its that big a deal,as its been said its just like calling Dale ,dule,Stuart,Stupid etc and it is certainly not racism.

Well I don't think his utter rubbish but he shouldn't be in the final, since far better singers have been knocked out the show who deserved his place in the final.

As for the name thing I have always made up names for the people on Big Brother and other shows I'm not keen on, or don't respect, like:

Jade Gooby (Jade Goody)
Imobore (Imogen - BB7)
Simple Simion (Simon Cowell)
The little bitch dogs (Danielle, Jack, Jackiey and Jo - CBB5)

and so forth. It's just away of expressing an opinion. And not to be unfair to those I have given names to in the past, Eoghan is "Egg Head"

He was called 'Eggnog' on 5 News last night lol, and 'Ego' or something on Radio 1 on sunday.

I think most do it as a joke, it just isn't funny anymore.

I think you'll find the majority of people who spell his name as Eggnog/Egghead etc are doing it as a joke, because it's an unusual spelling. It's not racist and it's not a reflection on how bad/good he is, it's just making fun of his name. He himself does it on the Xtra Factor, so I doubt he gets upset over it.
