Just a general question regarding CBB adverts. When will they air if, there is any? I dont ever remember it being advertised during the Christmas period? Just wondered if anyone can shed any light on it?

No-one knows exactly when the ads will begin. However, they could begin very soon - the Hijack ads begun airing on the 13th December last year, and it's now the 14th...

So soon then hopefully?

Yeah. After all, it begins on January 2nd, so they've got no choice but to advertise over the Christmas period...

Spike

Yeah maybe tomorrow then
I didn't realise how close the 10 day mark was until I read Markus' post so eye flashes should really be starting this week, idealy within the next 2 days
but maybe C4 are going to see if Big Brother will follow the trend of TV shows this year which is reduced advertising = Bigger ratings.

I've been reliably informed that they will start on Friday 19th December. The first one is currently planned to be shown during Britain's Got The Pop Factor 2 after 9pm, though they may show it before that.

I haven't believed a word you've said since you said that your 'insider' told you about Big Eyes, which someone then said that they'd made up over at DS.

They'll start Boxing Day I think about a week before it starts. Plus people always say that the first advert will be during a big ratings pulling show but it hardly ever is, they are usually spotted between Friends or Hollyoaks repeats on E4.

Good good. I don't expect anyone to believe me until it happens. Same thing happened over the summer. I told people what would happen, I got a backlash, then at the end I was always correct.

And as I've explained previously, there was always an intention to pilot a new programme. The name was going to be either: Big Eye, Big Shout, Big Agenda. This was due to George Lamb supposedly going to leave, but he's staying now.

The promos will start this Friday, I've heard, with the 9pm slot the favourite for its first airing.

There was never any intention though, the show was made up by Voodoo Child on DS.

There was an intention to make a new show, as I've explained. I don't know who this Voodoo Child is, but I do know what I'm told from a source is reliable.

My source has told me more info about this subject in the last few hours - Endemol were going to test out a pilot for a new programme which was going to air on the Internet. Some kind of Video Podcast which would last 20 mins or so. Endemol have recently been wanting to explore the Internet side of things, but ultimately this did not occur because of budget issues. The money was originally thought to be available to do such a show, because BBLB was supposed to be rested during CBB6.

BBLB was supposed to get rested during CBB6, with just BBBM. This is because George Lamb was not going to return and bosses wanted to take their time appointing a new host for a intended BBLB comeback during BB10. But since George Lamb's deal with ITV did not get fulfilled as orginally though, he decided to stay on BBLB. As a result no budget was available for the intended new programme.

Apparently there is going to be a advert for Big Brother during Dancing On Ice on Xmas day.
If the adverts don't start this week then its time to start worrying at the ratings because C4 doesn't pull big audience from Xmas to New Year.

Voodo Child is a member on the Digital Spy forums who has contacts at Endemol, he created 'Big Eyes', made it up, completely fabricated and then got one of his contacts at Endemol to send a fake emails out about 'Big Eyes' to get people talking. It may be likely you got one of those emails but either way there was never a Big Eyes it was all totally made up.

Well tomorrow is the day when we are almost certain to get our first advert for CBB6
If we don't see it tomorrow which is unlikely then C4 have left it to late and are then running the risk of a ratings disastor

i think they might advertise it during Peter Kay's 'Britain's got an Extra Pop factor, and then some!' because it will pull in alot of viewers.

I have a feeling in the middle of Peter Kay's 'Britain's got an Extra Pop factor too. Because it raked in a high rating, so its a good idea to start it then, then heavily promote it. maybe by announcing a famous persons name every 2 days or something... that would be cool.

C4 would have payed about £150,00 for an advert during The X factor final for a repeat of the Peter Kay show
It will cost C4 a lot less to buy the advertising space for DOI for the launch of Big Brother which is the show which decides the next 3 weeks of ratings for C4
So i'm sure C4 will pay a the price for it.

Good point but I have never seen a channel advertise for another one (BBC never advertises for anything else) but I don't see why C4 would choose to advertise during a DoI special because it won't have too many viewers so why didn't they put an ad in the XF final because that would attract a LOT of viewers due to the fact that the audience for XF is similar to the BB one (10-30 year olds).

If Channel 4 pay the asking price to ITV Sales then ITV can't refuse them a slot. Its the same for all companies.

The BBC doesn't advertise for anything else because they don't advertise at all. C4 and ITV are the only 2 terrestrial channels who advertise for each other.
DOI averaged over 9million viewers earlier this year so its in the similar region to The X Factor. Plus its another reality show which does attract similar viewers to Big Brother which C4 can't over the Xmas period because viewers mainly only tune into ITV1 and BBC1
C4 didn't advertise Big Brother during The X Factor because they weren't advertising it yet and they wanted to give one of their new biggest shows a boost instead.

I suppose ITV would rather go for an alternative if there is one
but if C4 are going to advertise one of their shows on ITV they will put their bid in for a slot weeks or months before other companies do so ITV are forced to accept or risk it and reject before it gets any other bids.

BBC does advertise for their own channels (BBC's 1-4). DoI averaged 9 million viewers? That is surprising because I thought it only got about 4-5 million. I still think that the audience is different, just because it's reality TV I don't think it is the same as BB - I would say it's the same as the SCD one. Why wasn't BB advertised during the XF final because advertising started on the 13th last year and what new big show was given a boost instead?

If you looks at figures it gets a high number on 16-34's and a high percentage of women as BB does, so the audience are very similar.
C4 are leaving Big Brother late this year for some reason maybe because high advertising has lead to low ratings for most shows this year.
The new show is the Peter Kay show which has been a real success for C4, getting just under 6million, 3 million(repeat) and its on again tonight.

No, that's what I'm saying. ITV won't really be too keen to advertise C4's best show which attracts most viewers for them. Especially as it means BB will be pulling in viewers from ITV which makes ITV do worse. I'm not saying it's impossible for channels to cross-advertise but it is rare and channels don't really like helping out their competition.

I didn't realise the DoI audience was so similar to the BB and XF ones. Why would a channel leave it late to advertise a programme because it had been getting low ratings, you need to advertise more rather than less. Is the XF audience more similar to the BB one or the Peter Kay show one, if the answer is BB then why advertise for the show with a more different audience?

I would say The X Factor is similar to both but more similar to the Peter Kay show as they both get high 16-34's but also their audience is a lot wider. Plus the Peter Kay show is The X Factor but twisted to be funny.
Like I said I don't know why C4 are leaving it later this year, but my thought on it is that shows which haven't been advertised as much this year have dong great (X Factor, I'm a Celeb) whereas big shows which have been hyped up loads have kinda failed(Big Brother 9, Dirty Sexy Money, Pushing Daisies) But C4 could be doing it for different reasons, maybe they want more focus on their Xmas shows and for them to do well

Yes, maybe the Peter Kay show is a more similar audience to XF than BB but I don't think that C4 needed to go out of their way to advertise it on ITV although it has probably helped them a bit, it is not really worth the money that they will have paid ITV. Also, I think even if the Peter Kay show is similar to the XF concept it should not really be advertised during XF itself because it is not really a good enough reason, due to the fact it is on C4. You said that shows which haven't had as much advertising this year have done better, well the ones you mentioned don't really need much advertising at all anyway due to the fact that they are both hugely popular and could almost certainly both pull in 10 million viewers. The other shows you mentioned such as Dirty Sexy Money, Pushing Daisies and BB9 have probably not done so well even with the advertising because the general concept of the show is either becoming old (BB9) or is not a good one anyway (Pushing Daisies and Dirty Sexy Money). I agree that C4 will probably want to focus on a good Christmas line-up with decent viewer ratings but in the past they haven't really pushed particularly hard to advertise their best shows on other channels as well as their own because it will become too expenisve and pointless (and probably won't pay off).

I wouldn't really expect XF to pull in all kinds of viewers because the older viewers would much prefer to watch SCD (40 or 50 years old and upwards). But yes I agree with the fact that 16-24 year olds will be the main bulk of viewers.

3 generation as i said before haha
i learnt about it from media studies, its basically where a media text [usually tv/radio] has no specific target audience, and the usual age brackets are 16-24, 25-44 and over 45s. The main TV programme I can think of that is is Doctor Who

I also think C4 have to prioritise their Christmas specials, which mainly air over the next week, before adding BB into the promotion loop too.

I'm 90% confident they'll start tonight, but it should be noted that for previous celeb series they often didn't start promoting it until the 10 day mark at the earliest.

Celebrity Hijack debuted earlier because it was not just a new twist on the format, but also on a digital channel - which tend to promote their series earlier anyway.

Yeah thats why BB:CH adverts started earlier last year and probably why they are later starting this year
C4 have learnt over the last 2 years that they can't rely on Big Brother as much any more so other shows are having to take priority in advertising and scheduling at times.
I''m also confident they will start tonight and go straight into countdown adverts.

I think there will still be eye flashes but not as the main advert for the next few days unless it is the musical flashes
or maybe we will get an advert like this

Yeah, I was thinking 14 day adverts from tonight onwards, like this one:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=MQ7Ytd766kU (but with 14 days instead of 10)
And I would say that from the 10 day mark they will do proper house adverts as well as other countdown ones, like this:

Liked the slightly different cut of the music, but just like BB9 they can't rely on the logo and house shots to tempt the viewers back again. It worked when BB was at it's peak, but they need to be a bit more imaginative now.

And the end of these is so understated too - "Celebrity Big Brother: The Live Launch - Friday 2nd January on 4" is rather forgettable really. Even a simple "It's back!" to emphasise it's returning would have been better.

There is a hint of Christmas in there now I've seen it again - a bit of sparkly "snow" (well, it could be) and some jingling!

It's clearly a rehash of the BB9 logo though as you can see the red streak moving in different shots, as on the CBB6 logo the angle of the red streak has changed ever so slightly.

And Paris Hilton could be going in the house!!! Hopefully she gets that paper work 100% sorted. She'll be the best signing in BB history if she sorts it out.

I think they may well do one in Deal or No Deal because they did a countdown one before BB9.

They will do the 10 DAYS advert during one of the most-watched programs on today/tonight...

So; Hollyoaks? or possible Alan Carr's Celebrity Ding Dong?

I doubt we'll see it before 8 o' clock. Maybe we might not have a 10 day countdown.. perhaps from 5? You never know.

It's because they're very rarely shown. I've found that they're on around twice a day on C4 - once in the morning and once in the evening. I don't know about the other channels.

As for the house ad, I wasn't expecting one - the pics were only released on Monday after all.
