After coming fourth in the X Factor, Diana has recently signed with Simon Cowells record label, and should be releasing sometime during 2009.

Because they tried to train her voice and made her sound rubbish, I hope she sounds more like she did during auditions... because she was pushed in the wrong direction during live shows and she sounded horrible.

I stick to my opinion, I prefer quality to quantity. I am willing to wait a year for 12-15 incredibly good songs, than wait 3 months for about 3 good songs and the rest filler. If you are talented enough to write so quickly then good for them, but I doubt Diana is that good at writing... she shouldn't be rushed.

Yeah but I mean it is a very big talent to be able to write 4 very good albums a year, without any filler. Some of the most talented writers take a long time to write, for a decent album you need to write more than 15 songs, you write about 50 or more and then pick the best, then you need to create the perfect instrumentals for the background, then background vocals, then you need to mix it and master it. I just can't see a legendary album being done quickly.
Just saying... chances are the album will be delayed. I can't see them sticking to it being the end of the year.

Comparing Diana to a legend like Miles Davis seemed funny at the time. I agree with you but I think artists should never take more than a year to make an album.

I'm quite looking forward to her album. I hope she tries to be different and doesnt just go for chart hits. I think her album could be quite good.

And that is why things shouldn't be rushed. Your friend did it quick yes but not to the standard she is comfortable with releasing it, albums take a long time to perfect. Rush it and you are releasing unfinished work...

Chances are all the songs and stuff was written months ago, it's just a matter or recording them. The reason why some albums take so long to record (I.E X Factor winners) is because they have to record LOADS of songs, for her debut album Leona apparently (I think) recorded over a hundred songs.

If the songs have been written and chosen for Diana's album and if she's recording them in one go at one studio then it shouldn't take more then a few weeks to record. After that it'll be PR for the next few months, she'll do a few gigs here and there and once the single and album comes out she'll do TV performances and such. PR takes up a lot of time in making an album. Look at people like Frankmusik and Florence and the Machine, they've been active for around a year, the albums was probably done AGES ago yet all they've done is gig performances and released a few limited singles. It's all about getting the right people talking.

revival of Jim Cartwright’s multi award-winning play The Rise and Fall of Little Voice.

The Rise and Fall of Little Voice is coming back to the West End in an exciting new production to play a strictly
limited season at the Vaudeville theatre from Thursday 8 October. Press night is Tuesday 20 October at
7.00pm

The Rise and Fall of Little Voice premiered in 1992 at the Royal National Theatre and then transferred to the Aldwych theatre. It was nominated for six Olivier Awards, and the play won both The Evening Standard and Olivier awards for Best Comedy of the Year.

The Rise and Fall of Little Voice is a savage black comedy-drama about painfully shy, diminutive Little Voice (LV), who lives alone in the north of England with her mother, Mari. Mari’s drunken, overbearing personality has driven LV into seclusion in her bedroom, where she listens to her late father’s records and has perfected faultless impersonations of the greatest divas, including Judy Garland and Dame Shirley Bassey. When Mari’s latest boyfriend, small-time working men’s club impresario Ray Say, overhears LV singing, he puts in place a tragic sequence of events as he pushes her towards stardom she doesn’t want and is literally terrified of.

Producer Nica Burns said today: ”There was no question of reviving this fabulous play in the West End until we had found our Little Voice. When Jim Cartwright, who originally wrote The Rise and Fall of Little Voice for Jane Horrocks, told me he had found the perfect girl - and then dragged me off to Wembley to see Diana Vickers perform as part of the “X Factor” tour, I thought he’d gone mad! But when I saw Diana I knew immediately he was right; she has a special quality.
When she finally agreed - after much persuasion - to come in and read for us, we found out that not only can she sing but she was an intuitive actress as well.”

Playwright Jim Cartwright said: “This young girl is a natural actress. The moment she read the part, it was magic. A frisson ran through the room. Diana Vickers is the real deal. She is Little Voice.”

Nica added: ”We are extremely grateful to Diana’s record company for allowing her a break from recording her debut album to take on this exciting role in the West End. I know it wasn’t part of her career plan after the “X Factor”, but we are delighted she agreed to do it - even if it meant wearing my knees out begging her!”

Diana Vickers, born in Burnley, Lancashire, the sort of town where the play is set, has been singing since the age of 11. Her talent came to light when she entered the “X Factor” in 2008 and her journey saw her survive nine weeks of live shows. Diana is taking short break from recording her debut album to take the role in The Rise and Fall of Little Voice. She recently signed a record deal to RCA records and her debut album is due for release early 2010.

Playwright Jim Cartwright was born in Farnworth, Lancashire. His plays are consistently performed around the world and have won numerous awards. They have been translated into over 27 languages. His first play, “Road”, opened at the Royal Court in 1986, and was subsequently revived that same year and again in 1987, before being taken on a nationwide tour. “Road” won the Samuel Beckett Award, Drama Magazine’s Best New Play Award, and was joint winner of The Plays And Players Award and The George Devine Award. In 1988, “Road” was produced by The Lincoln Centre, New York. “Road” is now considered a modern classic. Other works include: “Bed” (Royal National Theatre), “Two” (Octagon Theatre, Bolton, transferring to The Young Vic, winner of The Manchester Evening News Best New Play Award), “Eight Miles High” (Octagon Theatre, Bolton, nominated for the TMA best musical award. In 1997 a production of the play at the
Reykjavik City Theatre, Iceland, ran for a year, breaking box office records).

Director Terry Johnson has won nine British theatre awards including two Oliviers for Best Comedy, Playwright of the Year, Critics' Circle Theatre Awards for Best New Play, two Evening Standard Theatre Awards, two Writers' Guild Award for Best Play, the Meyer-Whitworth Award 1993 and the John Whiting Award 1991.

He has had many West End productions as director and/or writer including: “One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest”, “Hitchcock Blonde”, “Entertaining Mr Sloane”, “The Graduate”, “Dead Funny”, “Hysteria”, “Elton John's Glasses” and “The Memory of Water”. Diana Vickers has admitted to feeling "strange" at the return of The X Factor.

The singer told GMTV that time had gone by quickly since she was eliminated from the show in last year's semi-final.

Vickers said: "It's really strange, it's so surreal that it's all coming back round again, watching the adverts on TV, it really freaks me out.

Speaking about her upcoming stage role in The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, she continued: "It's great. It's such an amazing play by Jim Cartwright and I'm working with the most amazing people for the show. I'm just so lucky that I've got it."

Regarding her debut album, Vickers added: "It's going so good. I'm working with great people again - a producer that's worked with Bjork, Madonna and so many credible artists.

"It's got a good mixture of everything and I'm so excited. I've written most of it and co-wrote everything, so it's really cool."

"Take That’s Mark Owen has specially written a new song for the first major revival of Jim Cartwright’s Olivier Award-winning black comedy The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, which has been previewing since 8 October and opens on 20 October 2009 at the West End’s Vaudeville Theatre (See News, 9 Jul 2009).

The song, entitled “Sunlight” and co-written by Jamie Norton and Ben Mark, is the final song sung by X Factor finalist Diana Vickers, who makes her stage debut in Terry Johnson’s production. According to publicity, Vickers’ performance of the new song has been receiving standing ovations as long as eight minutes.

The Rise and Fall of Little Voice concerns a about painfully shy, diminutive Little Voice (LV), who lives alone in the north of England with her mother, Mari. Mari’s drunken, overbearing personality has driven LV into seclusion in her bedroom, where she listens to her late father’s records and has perfected faultless impersonations of the greatest divas, including Judy Garland and Dame Shirley Bassey. When Mari’s latest boyfriend, small-time working men’s club impresario Ray Say, overhears LV singing, he puts in place a tragic sequence of events as he pushes her towards stardom she doesn’t want and is literally terrified of.

According to playwright Jim Cartwright, “It had always been my intention to write an original song for the end of my play, when Little Voice finally sings in her own voice. However, when we first premiered it at the National Theatre in 1992, we ran out of time and a Judy Garland song was used. When I first heard ‘Sunlight’ with Diana Vickers singing it, tears came to my eyes. I was just thrilled. It was exactly what I wanted. Thank you to Mark, Jamie and Ben for helping me to realise my dream for the ending of the play. It has taken 17 years but with a song as perfect as this, it was worth the wait.”

Producer Nica Burns added: “When we first discussed the new West End production, Jim Cartwright immediately said he wanted an original song for the end of the play. Then, by one of those extraordinary coincidences, he happened to be at Granada studios when Take That were filming a special. He bumped into their manager, Jonathan Wild, and he asked him if they would consider writing a new song for the show. The result is ‘Sunlight’.”

Mark Owen said: “Jim Cartwright is one of the country’s leading playwrights and to be asked to be involved in the writing of the final song for Little Voice was a real honour. I’m a huge fan and am thrilled that he feels the song fits the moment and does his play justice. I’m really looking forward to watching it.”

Diana Vickers said: “I couldn’t believe it when I heard Mark Owen was going to write the final song for the play! I’d always really looked up to Mark, as I think the songs he writes with Take That are spectacular. ‘Sunlight’ is absolutely beautiful, and it provides the perfect ending to a brilliant play.”

Vickers, who plays the role originated on stage and screen by Jane Horrocks, is joined in the cast of the new production by Lesley Sharp (as Mari), Marc Warren (Ray Say), Rachel Lumbert (Sadie) and the playwright's 24-year-old son James Cartwright (Billy). Little Voiceis designed by Lez Brotherston, with musical supervision by Nigel Lilley, lighting by Mark Henderson and sound by Ian Dickinson. LITTLE VOICE WAS AMAZING.
Anyone who says she can't sing would totally eat their words if they saw it.
She has such a powerful voice, she filled the whole room, and was belting out Judy Garland +Shirley Bassey perfectly, and then could change to sounding like Lulu+Marilyn Monroe SO well!!

My bf was never keen on her, he always said she couldn't sing but he admitted afterwards that he was wrong, she can sing extremely well, but doesn't get why she didn't sing like that on the XF. Her voice is seriously strong.
