Why does the sun lighten our hair, but darken our skin?

Why can’t women put on mascara with their mouth closed?

Why don’t we ever see the headline “Psychic Wins Lottery”?

Why is “abbreviated” such a long word?

Why do doctors call what they do “practice”?

Why do you have to click on Start to stop Windows?

Why is Lemon Juice made with artificial flavouring, while Fairy Liquid is made with real lemons?

Why is the person who invests all your money called a broker?

Why isn’t there mouse-flavoured cat food?

Who tastes dog food when it has a “New & Improved” flavour?

Why did Noah save those two mosquitoes?

Why do they sterilise the needle used for lethal injections?

Why don’t they make the whole plane out of the material used for the indestructible black box?

Why don’t sheep shrink in the rain?

Why are they called “apartments” when they are all stuck together?

If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport “the terminal”?

The wool does shrink/curl - as your human hair would, also their wool is covered in Lanolin which is like a sort of greasy wax substance which protects the wool to stop them looking like they just jumped into a pool.

I know these things am Welsh! I have 2 pet sheep too :blush2:

"Why isn’t there mouse-flavoured cat food?"

Because cats go for mice just to play with its the sorta movement they make, it is very rare to actually see them eat them, usually just play withit and end up killing it..?

OK here is my stab at this

This is to do with ultra violet light which according to the equation E=hv is highly energetic. (Where v = frequency and h = plank's constant)
UV light can cause certain chemicals to break down, like the pigment in hair, but in can cause burning in the skin. Plus in your skin exposure to UV light will trigger production of melonine, the associated sun tan. Essentially a sun tan is a mild form of radiation burn.

Putting on mascara requires consentration, and this means the rest of the face goes into default relaxed mode, which for the mouth is open. (Clamping the jaw shut requires concentration too)

Why don’t we ever see the headline “Psychic Wins Lottery”?

Maybe because psychic powers do not exist? If someone did have that ability they would make more money on a regular basis by playing the stock market, and they would not garner unwelcome publicity, which such wins bring in. It is notable that the man who invented card counting at black jack turned his mathematical and statistical skills to the stockmarket and did precisely that.

Define long, this is not the longest word in the English language, which I know is a cop out.

Why do doctors call what they do “practice”?

Pass, maybe something to do with the etymological derivation of the word

Why do you have to click on Start to stop Windows?

Start was designed to access all of the programs and adminstrative routines on the computer, one of which is Shut down

Lemon Juice is natural. I suspect you are talking about lemonade, in which case the answer lies in cost. Artificial flavours cost less than pure lemon juice. In terms of the washing up liquid, what is most likely added is citric acid, which is known to assist in cleaning.

Why is the person who invests all your money called a broker?

The name of the process is brokerage, so the person involved is a broker

Why isn’t there mouse-flavoured cat food?

Do cat's actually eat mice one has to ask. Even if they do, there is not a lot of meat on a mouse, given it's size so the economics of scale rule against this, especially if there are cheaper alternatives that cats will eat.

Who tastes dog food when it has a “New & Improved” flavour?

Believe it or not, some people are paid to taste dog food, plus they will use real dogs in the test marketing of new products.

Why did Noah save those two mosquitoes?

He was told to. Mosquitoes do fulfil a certain niche and are vital in our ecology, even though they can carry malaria.

Why do they sterilise the needle used for lethal injections?

Standard protocol, incase the execution is called off at the last moment

Why don’t they make the whole plane out of the material used for the indestructible black box?

Because it would then be too heavy to fly. Also the Black Box is not black, it is orange to facilitate easy recovery after any air disaster

Why don’t sheep shrink in the rain?

This has been answered by another poster

Why are they called “apartments” when they are all stuck together?

Although they may all be stuck together, they are in fact separate units, set apart from each other. The word comes from the French

If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport “the terminal”?

Because that is where a journey by air begins and end. The begining and ending of things, like power points on a circuit diagrams are call terminals. Also if we are dealing with a bus route, the very end is called the terminus, because that is where the route both begins and ends. The word comes from the Latin terminalis (“‘pertaining to a boundary or to the end, terminal, final’”)

I hope this helps
