Fantastic! A joy to watch, they must write a 3rd series, the fans demand it! Then again there was some hints near the end.
I do feel that the american intrest in the show has side tracked the pair writing a 3rd series.

JOSHUAH!

There is a 3rd series, it'll just be quite a while away as they are focussing on the American one a bit. We've had 2 good series so let them take a break

Third series of Gavin and Stacey confirmed
Dec 22 2008 by Gavin O'Connor, Western Mail

IT’S been the question on the lips of every Gavin & Stacey fan – “Oh, what’s occurring with the third series?”
But yesterday the hit comedy’s faithful fans received their answer when writers Ruth Jones and James Corden confirmed they would create new episodes in the new year.
The Bafta-award winning show was due to leave TV screens for good after the screening of its Christmas special. But with just three days to go, the couple told a crowd at Barry Island brandishing “third series please” signs, that the decision had been much debated.
Jones, presenting her Sunday morning Radio Wales broadcast live from the front in a black-buttoned turquoise coat, told guest Corden: “I’m in if you are,” at which point huge cheers went up.
Responding to the banners demanding a return of the comedy filmed in Barry and rumours BBC bosses were negotiating a deal for another string of episodes, Corden said: “We’ve been back and forth on this for a while. Truly, we will try our best and give it our best shot.”
Jones, who plays Stacey’s friend Nessa, had previously been reluctant to commit to a third series, believing more episodes could take the edge off a comedy which has been likened to The Office – the Ricky Gervais creation famous for ending at the height of its popularity.
But Porthcawl-born Jones told yesterday’s 1,000-strong crowd: “If it’s not as good as the first two series, don’t complain. But we would love to write another series.”
She added: “We love coming down here and filming the show. The people of Barry are so warm and friendly”
Corden, adopting the high spirits of his Gavin & Stacey alter ego Smithy, attempted to wind up choir members from Only Men Aloud! with his japery as the choir members performed Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.
He had already ramped up the expectation levels for Wednesday’s 65-minute special.
At the launch of the series’ companion book, From Barry to Billericay, he said: “It’s our best work yet on Gavin & Stacey. Gavin & Stacey really lends itself to Christmas. Ruth and I watched it the other day and I felt like I’d already had Christmas.
Jones added: “It’s really juicy and gorgeous, and I’m really proud of how we did with it. We put a lot of love into it.
“Hopefully people won’t be disappointed, but you never know.
“There is a point in the special when myself and Joanna Page are both naked and that’s all I’m going to say.”
BBC Vision director Jana Bennett confirmed Gavin & Stacey would return in 2009.
It has been reported the four main stars, Jones, Corden, Page and Matthew Horne who plays Gavin, will receive 20% pay rises to reflect the show’s success.
Corden and Jones, it emerged yesterday, also plan to write a sketch for next year’s Comic Relief fundraising night.
The show was first aired on BBC3 but it became so popular it soon switched to BBC1 and has picked up numerous awards, including two Baftas and the Best TV Comedy prize at the recent British Comedy Awards.
The Gavin & Stacey Christmas special will be shown on BBC One on Christmas Eve at 10pm.

If you ever listened to Ruth's "Sunday Brunch" (her last ever show) she was on there with James Corden and they said they WILL do a third series, but when they don't know as they're focussing on the American one.
