MacDonald sceptical over Burke's future
Amy MacDonald has warned that X Factor winner Alexandra Burke may not have a long-term future in the music industry.
The Scottish singer claimed that Burke is too similar to other artists and will only be used to make quick cash for Simon Cowell.
"I have heard Alexandra Burke but I don't think she is any different to Leona Lewis," MacDonald told the Daily Record. "I thought the whole point of that show was getting someone different but she seems the same as anyone else. There are so many people who already exist and can do it better so I don't see the point of it.
"It would be much better if they tried to encourage them to learn instruments or write songs but it's clear this is a quick way to make some money for Simon Cowell."
The 21-year-old star criticised the programme's 2007 winner Leon Jackson last year after he pulled out of a Hogmanay appearance. Jackson later hit back at the singer for cancelling some of her own tour dates.
Reflecting on the feud, MacDonald explained: "I've had no more than a few days off in the past 10 months. He was cancelling his first gig. I think his comment was a bit misguided. He was obviously enco

Who is this woman? I'm not familiar with her work.
When I first saw this I thought it was referring to one of the Maccy D brothers.
Hm... I think its a lets watch and see moment. No one can call this one, she is more versatile than Leona. She will make it if she releases more upbeat tracks and not ballads like Leona. Leave that to Leona.

Pshh.. i think Leon and Alexandra are a little bit different dont you all?
And who is she, ive never even heard of her
I think she is scottish...
Shes a singer songwriter... shes pretty good...
Even though Alexandra is talented.. I agree with Amy... It may be soon to tell... but with leona on the scene and doing VERY well... she could have a few problems.

Who?
The only thing Alexandra's management needs to do is make her into a completely different image, if they pass her off as more of a Rhianna look, and less of a Mariah look like they did with Leona she will make it. We haven't had a decent pop upbeat british girl singer since like... Jamelia? Correct me if I'm wrong.
I like Amy MacDonald and she is probably right anyway.

Agreed.
If she is manufactured into another Leona and not able to be who she is... she will suffer. What a waste of an amazing talent.

Alex is an amazing 20 year old talent. If her management find the right songs for her she'll be very succesful. She's more versatile than Leona so direct comparisns are pointless. I think this woman is talking sh*te.

I like Amy Mcdonald, and agree with her
Bitter much? She said the exact same thing about Leon last year (and was right) but she auditioned a while back and didn't even get past the producers

i agree with what you said!
i like alex though, and i think she'l do pretty good i think, but she really is exactly the same as a lot of other artist, and that might over shadow her.
cuz shes not offering something new!
She's playing in Aberdeen tomorrow night for Hogmanay, if only I was going, I could have booed her... haha. What a load of rubbish, she's an outspoken pillock anyway, I've heard quotes from her before slagging off other people's music. Anyway I think, as has been said, Alexandra should be taken in more of a pop, Rihanna-esque direction than a ballad singing Leona clone, she'll be successful that way.

And Her album was the 14th best selling album this year.
I'm surprised at how many people don't know who she is! But anyway, Amy is a great artist & so is Alexandra. Tbh, it's from Digital Spy so it must be true!

She has THE most annoying voice in the universe and I absolutly hate her music. She could be right about Alexandra but who is she to comment really, noone knows how big Alex is going to be I think its alot to do with the luck of the draw with xfactor winners and alot of it is down to the management.

We haven`t told a newspaper about it though and this is a forum, thats the whole point to give our opinion
IMO she will have a great career and will go the Rihanna direction.the only reason people say shes more versatile than Leona is because she sang more up-beat songs and danced during her time on XFactor IMHO.Leona is much more versatile, not only can she sing rock, heavy hip hop and oprea(which BTW Alex could only dream of pulling off) but she can write it to.

Rock? Sorry I couldn't imagine her pulling that one off and the hip hop one is laughable she sounded so unfortable in Forgive me how could she do Heavy Hip Hop? Opera she could probably do but not well. She's got an amazing voice but she isn't as versatile as Alex.

I never said Forgive me was heavy hip hop I was saying that if she was uncomfortable with that then she couldn't really do well in that genre. With the Ludacris song you could argue that it was only a feat. performance and doesn't count since Elton john featured in a Tupac song but you wouldn't say he could do gangster rap.
I don't think Leona could pull of either genre in a solo and remember there's a difference between doing something and doing something well. I like Leona but her versatility only stretches as far as pop and light RnB.

what makes you think she was uncomfortable with FM?as for Private Party, the song is still Hip-Hop without Ludacris's part.a song doesnt have to include rap to be Hip-Hop.
im not 100% sure of the defenition of the word versatile so correct me if im wrong but versatile(in this context) means she can sing many different genre's,whether she sings them well or not is a metter of opinion, and in my opinion she does.she was singing solo in the Rock video i posted which was absoloutely amazing IMO.

Okay I'll let you have the hip hop one but i'm not giving up on the rock and opera, she can sing to a rock backing track but she can't sing in a rock style as there isn't enough raw power to her voice. This video is a good example of an excellent female rock vocal.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=QL_5LF9Ph9U
She hasn't got the rawness for rock. With that Opera clip she was just kinda singing normally as Somewhere can be sung normally, she just put on a more grandiose voice then usual. If she busts out with Nessun Dorma or Time to say goodbye then fair enough. Anyone can sing a song but you need to have a certain style of voice to actually pull it off.

LOL @ leona singing rock.
Her 'whole lotta love' made me cry in pain =(
She's too trained to be a rock singer :|
Her voice just doesn't suit the genre.
As for opera, go search Sarah Brightman and then tell me who's voice can carry off opera/classical better.

I don't think we'll be able to resolve this debate as I think we're both pretty stubborn on our opinions how about we agree to disagree?

your right about her not singing in a rock style, but thats not the point i was making, the point i was making is that she can sing rock.in that clip i posted she sang rock beautifully without changing the genre from rock to pop like she did with Run.IMO that clip prooves she can sing rock, not have a career in rock.as for Oprea i agree with you that the clip 30stone posted, even though i love it is just her singing with oprea.but she went to oprea school for like 3 years when she was younger, she even wanted to have a career in oprea up until she was like 20 then she changed her mind.the only clip there is of her singing anything oprea online is this (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=SxLNKRCGUxY)(the sound quality is awful).the first 30 seconds is whats known in the oprea world as an RnB aria.
anyway the point i was trying to make is not that Leonas versatile(even i think she is),its taht shes more versatile than Alex!i genuinely cant see why you would still think shes more versatile after watching these clips.

Cool......I was beginning to wonder why a comment made by Amy Mac about Alex should turn into a thread about what Leona should/shouldn't/can/can't sing........:dazzler: Don't think she'll mind the comments about her not being a real heavy rocker or opera singer, somehow.....
