View Full Version : Afraid of others opinions?
Carrying on from my "Some posters..." thread. I felt I should make a new one, seeing as this isn't really the same as that.
Some members have said and will continue to say they are scared of what to say to people because they don't know how they will react... I do find this a bit worrying, that for a forum - which relies on people having opinions, it is quite weird.
I just think that those members (and again I won't name names, it's not fair on those members) that you shouldn't be afraid. If members don't like what you post, that is their problem. The best you can do is disagree with them... but then it could turn into an arguement. What's the point? So just getyour point across, aslong as it's across and people read it they know where you stand, if someone wants to make a big deal out of it, ignore it.
I know I for one probably have people who are a bit "scared" (if that is the word to use) to reply to one of my posts/threads. Well don't be, I'm just the same as you, a member with an opinion. I apologise if I have made anyone feel awkward with regards to replying to any of my posts or threads.
Say your opnion. Don't be scared.

If you're scared to post on an internet forum then you must be weirdly insecure or feel very threatened by members.

I don't think Ross meant that you'd literally be scared to post your opinion. Just that you'd feel stupid and left out if you got jumped on for having a different point of view.

Well it is a forum. People will have different opinions and viewpoints. You really can't expect people to agree with you all the time.

Nobody said it wasn't a forum, infact in my post I said it is a forum. I mean that people are afraid to have an opinion, when they shouldn't be afraid to have one at all.
it realy pisses me off when right before a member is stating their opinion they say something along the lins of "i know il get attacked for this but...".people are allowed to disagree with you and defend their opinion.then when they do post the OP will make a big deal about and say "jesus,i was just saying that..."

of course people are gonna have differing opinions life would be incredibly boring if we all thought and liked the same things but sometimes people can go crazy over and a comment can i have seen been almost held against that person for ages over really silly things like music taste for example to the point its dragged on and on into loads of posts that are not connected

I have no clue what incident you're on about, but that person must be silly then. Do you really think I would post hald of the stuff I do about Britney (or something) if I was scared that people would laugh or attack me with "she's ****!", "you have no music taste". You really shouldn't care what someone else says about you on an internet forum.

Markus I do feel you aren't grasping what this thread is about.
I am talking about HOW some members feel like they can't reply to a topic, purely on the basis that they're going to get mauled. They know themselves they shouldn't care what people think, but this thread is about how they do care. I'm just saying they shouldn't worry, it's their opinion. it was the same when bb was on like the hm you like really has a effect on who you are as a person off of here
the only time i felt a bit shall i post this was over the pregnant man other times i just get on with it there is far more stuff in this world to get stressed over than some playground antics on a forum

I am quite worried of posting sometimes for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I only joined a few days ago and secondly because I am one of the younger members of the forum.
Although I am mature for my age I am still a lot younger than some of the other members and am sometimes worried that the 15-21 year olds will strongly disagree with my opinion or ignore it.
I think that people should show more respect for new members as well. Just because I am new doesn't mean that my opinion is worthless and that is especially important seeing as CBB6 has just started and lots of newbies are arriving.
I hope that people can treat others equally and leave arguments and previous disagreements behind them when they post.

If a member feels uneasy, they should at least contact a mod/admin even if it takes some time for the problem to be resolved, because at least that way we know what's going on and can moderate it.
That aside, I think the issue is more that members can't be bothered with people jumping on them for having an opinion rather than the other way round. It's more them being annoyed with it instead of afraid of it, I think - as there really is nothing to be scared of when discussing things (as has been mentioned). My advice would be to just post it though. Threads are there for discussion, opinions and debate - which is what makes a forum fun in the first place. If people are willing to pick up on what you've said, it's no big deal - just stand by your views and explain them. Things would be a whole lot easier if everyone adopted this approach.
hannah.

Believe me, if this was an argument the swear words would have been drawn by now.
I read your post and took what I did from it. "Afraid of others opinions" is exactly the example I gave. Afraid of posting something incase others disagree or maul you for it. I've been there, and I can see others have too. But to feel threatened by words on the internet is kind of weird in my opinion.

I think that it's really good that Ross is addressing this. This sort of thing has been happening for a while but no one has done or said anything about it.
I'll admit that over the past few months i've been reluctant to post in some threads because of some of the members who have posted in it because of the whole Namegate incident where I said some things behind other people's backs about what I thought of them.
Hopefully now circumstances have changed and some members have changed, i'll be more active in discussions.

Never get worried over what others will say doesnt really bother me only problem is you disagree with certain people and others will side with them and you will be on your own.
I also hope ive never made anyone feel like that??

Stick wit me + you'll be fine.
Yes, until you push him off a cliff.
Anyway Lewis you can stick with ME ;). I'm not agist. and I'll give you cookiees. -Cough-.
Anyway, if it's true that some members are a bit agist isn't that a bit... petty, really? :/

People are entitled to their opinions but its ashame that in this day in age they will be mostly negative, low and in attempt to degrade someone else.
I aint afraid of others opinions and I always give my opinion. I think its stupid to not give your opinion to not cause uproar or not to be liked or whatever - and its obvious there are people on here who don't show their opinions for that reason.

I think more people need to hold back especially when they are going to say things JUST to get a reaction.
Spike comes to mind... saying he would rape someone but you know... NOT murder them?! Cos rape is alright!
More people should hold opinions back if its anything like that.
