View Full Version : Uni Decisions - Stress To The Max!

Right ok so I need to decide on a Uni course but it is freaking me out because...
A - I might go back to doing art and do interior design, but I might have to move away from home and that would include so many stresses and giving up so much - but I might gain a heck of a lot.
B - I might do a marketing course, which doesn't appeal to me as much but I get to stay in Edinburgh and so so.
BUT...
Seeing as these are 2 completely diffferent course, their applications are due in at different times and you can only write one personal statement.
I am completely stressed out and time is ticking. :puzzled:
Any advice?

I think thats what I need to do.
I've been in Edinburgh for 18 years and its not exactly the most exciting or largest place to live.
I'm just freakin out about it all just now and I really need someone just to go "OI!! YOU - YOUR GONNA DO THIS!!!"

I am in exactly the same situation (uni stress). I just don't know what to do - and even though I'm looking forward to it, I don't feel so grown up that I can just leave and start over!
Anyway, in your case, I would say go for the course you want to study. I know it can cause stress if you like your current location, but I'm sure tonnes of students going off to university will probably feel the same way this September. But they all have some sort of course/future they wish to pursue, and you can do this if you study the course YOU want to do. And, as you said, you could gain so much moving to a different place, meeting new people, having new experiences - the opportunities are endless! Hope all goes well. :) xxx

You're easily amused then, I'm like one of the most boring people ever :joker:
You could write a personal statement that covers both, and submit it before the 15th of January (that way it's in well early for the other course!) I'd probably write it from the viewpoint of "I am a creative person, I feel art and design is crucial in marketing" and sort of balance it like that. Get the application in before the 15th of January, that way you can put off making a decision for a few months instead of having your mind made up for you by not applying now :).

I'm in my first year of uni now - I moved away from home last September, and I won't lie, in my first week I felt pretty much the worst that I ever remember feeling, but now, although no one spoke about it at the time, it seems like all of my other flatmates were feeling exactly the same.
Now however, I feel much more settled, and proud of what I've achieved. By moving away to study the course I knew was going to suit me best I now know i'm on the way to where I want to be in life.
I would say, like Ash, pick the course you want to study. If both of those were offered in Edinburgh, which would you go for? It sounds very cheesy, but "everyone is in the same boat".

Yeah I agree with what Pink said, and if you do move away you'll get more out of the experience :spin2:

Seriously dude, do this.
A - You get to go into a career, but more importantly your NOT in Edinburgh. I think university is a great chance for you to meet new people, and really be independent. Loads of people will be in the same situation as you, and even if your already confident, you will gain sooo many skills by moving away.
I live at the bottom of the county, but I am going up North so I am totally independent.

Thanks Magic, thats helped
Along with all the other advice everyone has given me. It's an incredibly hard choice but my heart says option A. I think I have made my mind up but I will need a couple more days to think it more.
Thanks guys
Zee, I could do that but Uni's are very wary of people not sure what they want to do and it would look like I might drop out of that course if I started so I have less chance of being picked. But yeah I could try it. Hmmm.
