View Full Version : Prince Harry uses racist slur
AOL (aol.com)
Prince Harry has apologised for using the term "****" about a member of his platoon.
A statement from St James's Palace said he did so three years ago as a nickname about a friend and without any malice.
The News of the World said he had been caught on video using the term about an Asian Army colleague.
The newspaper said Harry had called the soldier "our little **** friend".
The trainee officer - identified as "Ahmed" - was unaware of the racist comment as officer cadets made the recording, it added.
In a separate incident, Harry, about to start training as a combat helicopter pilot, is heard calling another officer cadet by a derogatory term, the newspaper said.
The video reportedly shows Harry when he was on manoeuvres while still an officer cadet at Sandhurst military academy.
The story also says the Prince is filmed being disrespectful to his grandmother the Queen, the Commander in Chief of the British Army, in front of other cadets. With his Army friends watching on, he is filmed making a joke call to her, saying: "Granny I've got to go, got to go, send my love to the Corgis and Grandpa."
Harry and the other cadets were on their way to exercises in Cyprus when he made the racist comment during filming in the airport departure lounge, the story says.
The full statement from St James's Palace reads: "Prince Harry fully understands how offensive this term can be, and is extremely sorry for any offence his words might cause. There is no question that Prince Harry was in any way seeking to insult his friend."
I know there is no malice but it doesn't make it any better in my eyes!

Disgusting. Why doesn't Harry just wear the Nazi uniform permanently. He is so (perhaps, lol) his grandfather. Awful.

He should be dishonourably discharged out of the army today
The army is better off without racists louts like him
He should also be disowned from the royal family and stripped of his HRH
Make an example of him NOW

First of all, people need to remember he's a young adult and he was having fun with a camera to kill time. It's been quite clearly said that these people were his friends, and I'm sure if any offence was meant by it someone would have spoke up by now. Just because he's a royal doesn't mean he's obliged to have fun or slip up now and again. And this video was taken in 2006, which is three years ago!
I doubt he was being racist towards someone. I think he used a word which too easily makes you a 'racist' these days. I know Pakistani people who call themselves by that word or allow others to call them it as long as it isn't said with malice.

Lol what a load of rubbish! Who cares!! He said it 3 years ago and there was no malice behind the word!
Many left-wing nutters love a storm in a tea cup.
Maybe best he came out and said sorry and that be the end of it!

More political correctness insanity. There should be a law making political correctnesss a serious criminal offence punishable with life imprisonment.

Hang on a minute; it was said 3 years ago and only Prince Harry himself has brought it to light again now. If he was a staunch racist do you really think he'd make the effort to make it so publicly clear? No, I don't think so. Sensationalist bollocks.

There has been something of an overreaction to this from both sides of the fence. If he apologises then personally I dont see anything wrong with it ending there.
People are asking me for my opinion on this all day, and they only seem to see two sides of the fence. Are you on the PC side, or the other side? Really, I feel I am on my own in this alternate, third side I call ''who gives a ****?''.
Harry is obviously a few chips short of a motherboard, like the entire concept of the Monarchy in 2009. Far worse things are said by far smarter people every minuet of every hour. Who cares if one lone parasite with shoes made what was probably a not-to-be-taken-at-the-face-value-you-want-to-fabricate-and-impose-on-the-situation racist remark?

I know Pakistani people who call themselves by that word or allow others to call them it as long as it isn't said with mallace. I doubt his friend is a towel head. I think that's offensive to Arabs. The Pakistani guy sounded like a friend, and probably doesn't really feel upset, although his father hit the roof today, saying that sorry wasn't enough.

Enough with the PC garbage. I think that word should be outlawed since people like to use it for everything just to get people to shut up.

Depends on the person you're saying it to. You take the risk of getting you behind kicked.

If anyone thinks that people in the military don't talk like this, they're dangerously naive.
That being said, the royals have done this entire stunt for PR. They always have, as each of them has done "something" in the military. Harry being there, is all for publicity. They've upped his story every other day. Harry looks and sounds like an over-privileged twat. This little charade backfired. No one would care if it was anyone else saying this, but because it's Harry, it's due scrutiny. The sham gets outed. Good!
These staged events are tiresome, as is the entire monarchy. I love when they get caught with their ginger pants down.

Before you get into this stuff, it always helps to have a wee bit of material planned in advance you know. Although considering your genius, im guessing this is some post-modern ironic form of humor?
Word of advice : A comment about not being able to read is probably not the best response to give to somebody who has just spoken to you through text using the English language.

Bit gross really as the word has been used offensively not so long ago by the NF and such. Which explains his fathers outrage more than the sons. I thought the term rag head was more insulting. But on the grand scale of things its just a bit twatty more than deeply offensive!

I agree with those who are saying all sorts of stuff's exchanged between young adults who are friends; not to mention, this was taken three years ago, and that too in an army environment! This is the viewpoint most people seem to be taking. However, I do find it kind of odd/funny that Prince Harry's own personal video somehow ended up getting leaked - it's not like someone else outed him.
Although the News of the World comes up with some rubbish, it essentially outlines Ahmed's uncle's stance (along with loads of readers' comments which I tend to skip):
http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/news/128020/Prince-Harry-racism-row-centred-around-fellow-cadet-Ahmed-Raza-Khan.html
The point they're making there is that Ahmed was never Harry's friend... in fact, they barely even spoke. And even from the video, we can see that it's not like he heard what Harry was saying - he said it quietly. It's not as if he said it maliciously or in a fight, but he's shown that he is willing to throw words like that around lightly. Furthermore, it has implications that it's more a hidden type of racism (rather than full blown) which, particularly as a member of the Royal Family, is just not a good thing to do - goes without saying. I just remembered that the man Princess Diana called the love of her life (Dr Hasnat Khan) was Pakistani... don't think she'd be too impressed.
I've even heard people say it's the same as being called a "Brit" or "Scot", which I think is baseless because the only way I've ever heard the word "****" being used is with negativity.
Having said all of that though, I'm just pointing out random facts. Prince Harry has apologised now and I don't see what else he could do really. My personal stance is that I don't care if people make a fool out of themselves... that's their problem.

Yeh i agree there its not the same at all! Noone ever wrote "Brits OUT" or "Scot go home" on the walls etc. **** was widely used offensively back in the day and still today
