The Saturdays sing for Comic Relief

We can now exclusively announce that Rochelle, Frankie, Una, Vanessa and Mollie have been asked to record this year’s Comic Relief single.

The girls have only been together a year and already they are set to follow in the high-heeled shoes of other girlband royalty, such as Girls Aloud, Sugababes and The Spice Girls. They have recorded the main single for 2009’s campaign and have chose a massive track to cover – Depeche Mode’s electro-pop classic ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’.

‘I am so so excited that we have been asked to do the Comic Relief song,’ says Mollie. ‘It’s such a big compliment and it’s so nice to be helping such a good cause. I’ve always dreamt of doing something like this from being a little girl! I remember watching the Spice Girls’ song ‘Who Do You Think You Are’ and now it’s us! I cannot wait!’

Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day is on Friday 13th March and the theme this year is ‘Do Something Funny for Money’. By raising money for Red Nose Day, people can help to change lives forever. That’s because Comic Relief spends all the money raised to give extremely vulnerable, poor and disadvantaged people in the UK and Africa a helping hand to turn their lives around.

The single will be released 2nd March with Comic Relief itself taking place on 13th March.

Why do you think that?

I just think in order to promote such an established charity it would have been better to go with a more high profile artist. Have they even had a number one yet?

Fair point, but I think Comic Relief is so established now anyway that whoever does the single will be noticed for it.
Hoping for a number 1 here! Cant wait to hear the song!

I like the Saturdays but they can't sing!

I've heard them live once and they sounded horrible!!

Their songs are good though.

Haha, I'm the opposite.
I love the song but I'm unsure of them.

I like The Saturdays, I just don't want them to ruin it :(

It seems it's not the main Comic Relief single.

From the Red Nose Day Launch press release:

This year award winning Gavin & Stacey stars Rob Brydon and Ruth Jones have recorded a special one-off single collaboration with legendary Welsh crooner Tom Jones to bring you the official Red Nose Day 2009 single to be released on 8 March. Hot girl group The Saturday’s have done a poptastic version of Depeche Mode’s classic track, ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’. The single will be released on 3 March.

From Wikipedia:

In 2009, the comedy release will take prominence over the single release by a mainstream recording artist. Gavin and Stacey's Ruth Jones and Rob Brydon have covered "Islands in the Stream" for the event with this being released on the week of Comic Relief. The Saturdays will release their record a week earlier.
