View Full Version : Everyone is entitled to their own opinions ...
This is just in light of a couple of threads recently, I'm sure you all know what I'm on about.
Without opening another can of worms, its just worth noting that everyone is entitled to their own opinions whether positive, negative, in the minority, heartless etc.
I don't think some people should be slating for others for their thoughts, I mean again I'm sure you'll know what I'm getting at but people on here should just be taken at face value. Its up to you whether you believe them or not and up to you if you want to make that thought known to everyone. I don't think people should be slated for it. Theres no way of knowing 100% for sure if someone is telling the truth or not and theres no guarantees anyone will ever find out. Where hopefully everyone is genuine, its probably very likely that they aren't, but just as likely that they are so its down to you.
But all I'm saying is don't slate others for disagreeing with you no matter how big or small the issue is.
lily.

I agree 100% with that Tom.
I do have a controversial opinion, and I certainly don't expect others to agree with it. But, it's unfair to get personal if you don't agree with someone, no matter how sensitive the subject matter is.

I whole heartedly agree.
BUT... it must be a valid point or some contribution to a topic.
A few days ago there was a certain topic just which had members just using swear words and 5 year old language digging at a certain celeb, hint - in my sig.
I'm sick of people ruining a topic or attempting to degrade things you like but in childish ways.
Have a point.

Hello?! Ruin the topic? The OP had intended for it to be a thread about how ridiculous she thought it was Hilary Duff had a 2 Greatest Hits. It;s not like people had come into a a Hilary Appreciation thread and started slating her. The only childish reaction was yours.

The only ones who aren't allowed to express their opinions are pedos and rapers. I wish the death penalty was still there for them.
Apart from that, everyone is allowed to express what they think. So I basically agree with Linda and co.

Everyone is entitled to believe what they want and express it if they want without being treated like they have done something wrong

And I elaborated the situation more and had a proper discussion. You can't really find fault with that unless you are jealous that I can say more than "**** **** **** ****". Yuh huh.
E.g. I could quite easily make a topic about lets say... Big Brother and go "ZOMG ITS ****, ****, ****. What a load of crap". That ain't what I call a proper, well rounded, worthy and dignified opinion.
I agree, didn't include that though. A lot of opinions in the thread in question were well backed up yet still people wouldn't respect their opinion ...

I make up my own mind, I don't care what others think, even less so on the internet
I agree Tom, everyone does. But sometimes I think its nice for some opinions to be kept to themselves, there is being opinionated and then being rude.
If you disagree then fine, but I have been brought up that way, treat people the way I would like to be treated, i tell the truth and the right opinion when it matters, but when the opinion is just to cause some chaos and hurt someone's feelings. Then thats when it should just be kept to yourself.
Its how I was brought up, thats why I disagree so strongly. I hope you respect my opinion on this, like you want to be respected on your opinions.

I'l just add that I dont always have respect for some peoples opinions but I try and always have respect for the person. And there are a few who Ive had major issues with their opinions, but dont dislike them or bear any grudges. Infact I would rather converse with them, than others who have nothing much to say for themselves at all!

Firstly I totally agree that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I do hate it though when people hand out insults and dress it up in its just my opinion.
Ange7 as for the Mods having a Fom based approach, well like everyone on here we all have our own opinions about things but the problems arise when we try to impose our opinions onto everyone else and make it "law" I think constructive discussions like these are helpful and show that people can behave in a respectful way without getting into arguments about things.
I understand all the hoo ha behind the angiebabe situation and hold my hand up to being cynical about her illness and had I been online would have added my thoughts before the thread was closed (quite rightly so) the problems arise when people dont respect others polite opinions.
lily.
30-01-2009, 11:58 AM
I'm guilty of a lot of things on here, but in this situation, I reckon I was respectful to those who disagreed with me. The same can't be said for how I was treated in return though.
I'm glad the threads are all gone to be honest. I'd rather have no discussion about it than a censored one. I'm not saying the mods/admin are censoring, but some of the members would like to.

...and on subject of the other thread. I think people have asked valid questions and have reason to be cynical. the danger is in people lining up to slap the woman down, which I wouldnt want to see. If it is made up then I can understand people will be angry, hurt, feel cheated etc. But If it is, all I want to say is I hope she can get help for whatever went wrong to make her feel like she had to do that. And hope she is able to realise that people liked her for who she was not anything else, and there will always be people who disagree with you or dislike you. Thats just the way it goes man!...and if it is wrong then, like Linda said her family arent going to give 2 ***** about a few doubters on the net!

You said quite a few disrespectful things to me Fom. I'm sure they're all kept in the famous "TiBB Towers".
I recall calling you pathetic and a muppet. If that offends you then I am sorry, but yet again, just my opinion of you.
Do you not like it when insults get hidden as an opinion, because in MY opinion you have been doing it to Angie, if we all are allowed an opinion then that would be a great world, but that also means I can call you all the names under the sun... as my opinion. Is that not allowed Linda? If not, then stop cornering Angie as a fake and then calling it your opinion. If you are allowed to do that, I am allowed to call you pathetic as my opinion.

Oh Linda, you want to talk about adult conversations? Because you are clearly so adult, to post in a sick womans thread for her friends and say "I think your fake (but its just my opinion)"
Its maybe not an insult as such, but its unnecessary and could be taken as offense. God forbid I am trying to stop somebody from being offended.
I did say an insult, and I would take it back if I could but I was at the time a bit annoyed that someone would post in that thread and say such stupid things. I don't know which world you live in but if everyone voiced their opinion like that it would be a horrible world.

No I don't believe that, but I am not going to suddenly believe she isn't real because everyone else is doubting her, I am capable of creating my own decision. I dont live in a bubble, I give my opinion when its needed, hence why I am not backing down on this because I am voicing my opinion. I could easily go 'Yeh whatever' and stop posting. YOu really cant talk without resulting into insults. I think if youre unable to do that on a forum, then its definitely not your place. First of all, most people dont agree with you, as in you telling people to stop questioning Angie if they feel like it. Either way, it doesnt make a difference to me if a FM is fake or not, to be honest. Frankly thats the danger of some people getting too personal here, when it comes to being open on a forum. And the fact that there are kids here, makes it even more dangerous.

A while back , someone took offense on here cuz I refused to add them to my MSN cuz they were too young.
What they didn't seem to realise was how it would make me look, having a whole bunch of children on my friends list. Aside from the fact that I don't really have anything to talk to them about, I think it's a bit dubious and I wouldn't like to think my teenage son or daughter considered someone in their 20s or 30s to be a 'close friend'. It wouldn't happen in the real world, so it's not ok in the virtual one either.

Yeah, I'm quite strict with my kids regarding net usage. And, our "family PC" is in the living room, so they won't get away with much lol. I've come across my fair share of dubious sorts online, and I'm old enough to handle it. I don't want my kids to have to deal with those kind of people until they're old enough to handle it too.

I was going to jump in but 5 V 1 would have been harsh :P
ps sunny..
by "admin taking a fom based approach" I was just referring to how admin prefers to edit out content rather than let it run it's course just like Fom would prefer it if people were quite about their doubts.. ie self censor.
re
age gap ....yeah spot on ...it's getting harder to find threads that are fun to post on because it seems all the older members are leaving.

I have a boy and a girl. I think both carry worries of some sort. Ye try to give them freedom, but at the same time, ye need to keep them safe. It's hard to find the balance. My daughter is at the Hannah Montana/High School Musical age.. so the teenage years aren't far off.. lol
Ange, nice to have you join us. Should we make a thread for the 30somethings? I believe there was one already, but it disappeared...
