I'm thinking of starting to watch this. I've always kind of thought it was a bit of a stupid concept, but my friend is really into it and has kind of got me curious.

Just wondering, is it essential I watch Laguna Beach first?

and no theres no need to watch Laguna first unless you want to but hills is a billion times better people in Laguna are SO annoying.

i recomend it as it has good storylines if i were you though id watch a couple of the re-runs on MTV the stortyline has changed loads
