I am well shocked, Shannon was only 17 and he never woke up this morning.. He was fit and healthy and captain of the sixth form football team.

i cannot believe it and im upset about it.. it's just so sudden.

My question is, Does it normally happen, children/young men&women dieing in their sleep?

R.I.P Shannon

My thoughts are with his family and good friends.

My mum says things like this can just happen... its apparently the adult version of Cot Death. Horrible news, heart goes out to friends and family.

Its scary to think this can happen to any of us.

No it's not, thats why not so many people know about it. I ask my mum about everything medical... she knows everything. Its called SADS apparently, 'Sudden adult death syndrome'.

After my mum talking for ages on the subject, I picked up some people get a disability that is very rarely discovered where the heart can stretch a beat out a little bit longer, or skip a beat. Thats when it can happen, it is genetic, so usually its happened to someone else in the family.
It can be stopped, if you have knowledge of people in your family randomly dying.

Edit: Now she tells me there is loads more possible reasons, but yeh there is one... hope it helps.

Your mum is right but still many things we don't know, but will learn to understand over time... Its like being touched by death for no reason.

IVe seen cases were it happened to people that were on steroids or something! Like Flo Jo died in her sleep, and it was called sudden death syndrome, but the rumours were it waas because she use to take steroids.
Then recently I heard this Strongest man guy Jessy Marunde, he died in his sleep, but the diagnosis was he had an enlarged heart!

Anyways, its nothing to concerned about, its as rare as it gets!

my condoleances to you BTW!

Sudden death syndrome can happen when you're awake as well

Girl at my school (a year or so after I left) just collapsed on the field in PE and died

My Dad always says that about the Worlds Strongest men, he said that they dont live very long because they put too much strain on the heart.... apparently people that are too big or muscley (by this i mean REALLY muscely) can live shorter than others because they work to hard and strain themselves too much in the heart.

I think thats usually something to do with the heart! Rememebr it happened to this player from Cameroun on national TV during a match! ANd Ive seen it happen to a couple of basketball players in the uS!

Dont be scared DT. ITs a one in a million type thing!

Nah, not the same one. She was fine, just apparently waiting for her turn to bat then just collapsed and died straight away. Maybe something to do with the heart as AMA said ...

It never made the news though (well it wouldn't, it happened in the North).

My thoughts are with his family.

Although, on this - if I had to choose a way to die, I'd rather die in my sleep.

Sorry to hear that Loukas.

I know this is probably not a good time to ask - but I thought Shannon was only a girl's name :conf2: RIP.

Hi Luke and Jack, This condition is common amongst the young and fit. Shannon had a heart condition that went un-noticed even though he was rushed to Hospital several times over the last few weeks. If you are in any doubt about your health contact your Gp and ask for a ECG scan.

Take care all.
