Hey I have just been talking to Christina about how I met Matt and how he is from Lochladdy, North Uist in the Western Isles and how beautiful the island is and where he is from so I thought I would post some pictures of what its like because it is actually beautiful and its where I call home these days because its where I can be myself the most.
I have also just looked at all our old letters etc and really miss those days so thought it was good for my memory lane too :)

Eh there is ONE small shop on the whole island. Its no bigger than my living room.
There is two hotels which both include bars and alcohol (very much loved up there)
No take aways. Only healthy eating (lots of fish)
No nightclubs. There is a weekly ceilidh with a fiddle group. Its actually amazing! lol
And eh no taxis.. Well there IS a taxi service but its like mini buses. And only one. lol
And there arent buses or public transport so people tag a lift with the royal mail van! lol Its like a mini bus too and comes at certain times to take people from village to village cos there is like 12 miles between each of them with nothing in between.
Its amazing though :cheer:

Nah I loved it! I have always been brought up around the celtic side of life and it was like going back to my childhood. I would easily pack up and life there if there was more jobs going there but when me and Matt were discussing everything there wasnt so he moved here instead.
But when I have children I wana go up there and let them be brought up there

The Celtic side of life?.. What the eastern european pagan tribes that swept through europe in pre-roman times?... :conf:
Hey i agree Scotland is a lovely place, that homecomming thingy majigy is about... Stuff?
Annie

What are you talking about?
I mean like the highland way of life and celtic music and folk dances etc.
lol
andyman
13-02-2009, 03:08 AM
Celtic life is the eastern european tribes that swept through northern europe (post stone circule europe/pre-roman times)..
Oh you mean like a barn dance? :bouncy:
Annie
13-02-2009, 03:13 AM
Barn dance? Where are you living? America?!
Its like a gathering of people and there is like a fiddle playing group and sometimes singers singing in gaelic. And then everyone dances to the music with the scottish ceilidh dances. And you just get merry and meet new people. Its like instead of discos etc...
Wiki says this though:
Céilidhs facilitated courting and prospects of marriage for young people and, although discos and nightclubs have displaced céilidhs to a considerable extent, they are still an important and popular social outlet in rural parts of Ireland and Scotland, especially in the Gaelic-speaking west coast regions.

ahhh just like a barn dance? Tis the same if you think about it, many people from your lands went over to America and brought over their music and tings
Back to the Future had one, might have been part 2 or 3, just aint sure at the mo if truth be told..
Hey i hope many people keep it going and moving there would be good when your older, thats if none of the americans have bought getaway homes there and priced the locals out..
Annie

Yeah I want to learn to speak Gaelic because its like my background but mainly because Matt always talks to his family in Gaelic and I want to know what the hell they are saying! lol
andyman
13-02-2009, 03:34 AM
Lol! Hey its best you learn and don't tell him... Then again who teaches it? Over time you could listen to what they say... Ha bingo!! Lol.
Annie
13-02-2009, 03:36 AM
Up north you get Gaelic teachers. But most of them come from America and Canada because they will learn it out of their personal history interests and come over to live here and teach it

Then again your still a young lass.
I've always wanted to live on an island, just for the experience. It looks awesome. It looks like you can run from one side of the island to the other for a light jog.
