Each day I will pick a random artist/band to discuss. Post your favourite songs by them, why you love them, why you hate them, what albums of theirs you own.

Today's artist is Ashlee Simpson: Punk Chick or Desperate Wannabe?

When Ashlee first came onto the scene she seemed to be trying to carve her self in the punk chick/Avril Lavigne type role, even more so with her second album I Am Me. However with the release of her third album, Bittersweet World, she appeared to have ditched that persona in the place of a Gwen Stefani-esque ska-pop-elctro feel. This change in genre contributed to Bittersweet World being her worst selling album to date.

Often over shadowed by her sister Jessica, today Ashlee seems to have finally become an artist in her own right. And to be fair to her she has had some good tunes:

Boyfriend

Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya)

But overall, something about Ashlee seems terribly wish washy and doesn't seem to perfectly fit into any genre.

What do you think?

Beautiful voice and love her music but messed up as a person.

Dad has beaten down on her and she is very mousey due to him and rarely really says what she wants in interviews.

(from what I have noticed anyway)

Ashlee Simpson is my second favourite female artist, ever!

I have all her albums, and never get bored of her. 'La La', 'Hot Stuff', 'Burning Up' and 'Autobiography' are my favourite songs from her. She'd do well if she created another dark, punky album, like 'I Am Me'. 'Bittersweet World' was a good album, very consistent and it was a new direction but a lot of fans felt she was betraying her rockier, edgier roots, and I personally can't see why she can't fuse the 80s/dancey sound with the rockier one. Sorta like Porcelain And The Tramps, Paramore, even something like Lady Gaga.

Much better looking that Jessica, but both release awful music.

La La used to stick on my head all the time, though.

not really a fan but i loved outta my head,I also saw her on Loose Women (lol) last year and she seemed really nice and was dressed really well,I don`t know if it was a one off but I liked her style.I`ve not listened to that many songs of hers to be fair but thats mainly because I`m not really into that type of music.
