Thousands of fans will be flocking to Borehamwood next week when Elstree Studios welcomes a host of well-known personalities for the third series of Celebrity Big Brother.

On Thursday, Davina McCall will host the special launch night at the studios in Shenley Road as the eight celebrities enter the house for up to two weeks to claim the winning title in what is being anticipated as the most gruelling series yet.

Extra police officers will be patrolling the surrounding areas on eviction nights as a precaution against the influx of visitors who will be swarming into the town for a glimpse of their idols.

Chief Inspector Tim Bonnett, who is in charge of this years operations, explained that during previous Big Brother shows, crime actually reduced in the area.

He said: "We work very closely with the production company and the studios to ensure that the maximum safety is ensured for everybody involved. The eviction nights are very well stewarded and we have had no problems in past years.

"The reduction of crime is probably due to the fact that there are so many more people around than usual, so those who would normally be committing street crime have less scope to do so."

Viewers have been promised a treat of unexpected surprises and twists, as the celebrities temporarily swap their luxury lifestyles of mobile phones and credit cards for a house equipped with over 30 cameras to record their every move.

The guests are yet to be confirmed, but are rumoured to include supermodel Caprice; ex-girlfriend of the England football manager, Nancy Dell'Olio; Sylvester Stallone's ex-wife, Brigitte Nielsen; and Cherie Blair's friend and lifestyle guru, Carole Caplin.

Reports also say that the housemates will include feminist writer Germaine Greer; David Beckham's alleged lover Abi Titmuss; and self-styled prophet and former TV presenter, David Icke.

Shirley Jones, Executive Producer of Celebrity Big Brother said: "Nothing can prepare our celebrities for Big Brother, but rest assured Big Brother is prepared for them."
