Launch TX – Thursday 6 January 2005 at 9.00pm on Channel 4

Celebrity Big Brother is returning to Channel 4 for a third series and this time, it will be even bigger than ever before. This year, a record eight celebrity housemates will move into the Big Brother house where viewers will be able to watch them for an extended two week run. The unsuspecting group have no idea what Big Brother has in store for them. Life in the Big Brother house is strict and unforgiving and will be a world away from the lives of luxury our famous faces are accustomed to. This could be the most uncompromising and unpredictable couple of weeks of their lives.

The identities of the celebrity housemates will remain a secret until they enter the house and they have no idea who they will be moving in with. As always, from the moment those infamous Big Brother doors close behind them, the eight celebrities will have no contact with the outside world. That means, no newspapers, no mobile phones and strictly no agents! They will live together in same small house that was home for the Big Brother 5 housemates and will have to adhere strictly to Big Brother rules. And of course no Big Brother would be complete without a few twists and surprises – so the celebrities should definitely expect the unexpected!

Davina McCall will host a special launch night show where viewers will see the celebrities enter their new home, live on Channel 4. An hour-long Celebrity Big Brother programme with highlights of the house action will be broadcast every night on Channel 4 as well as live eviction programmes hosted by Davina. The live fanzine show, Celebrity Big Brother’s Little Brother will return with host Dermot O’Leary. But this year Big Brother’s Little Brother is growing up and will be broadcast at a new late-night time slot of 11pm. E4 will continue to be the home of all the house action, as and when it happens, with round-the-clock daily live streaming, as well as home to Efourum and Diary Room Uncut.

The decision as to who stays and who goes, as always, lies in the hands of the viewers, who will be able to vote via telephone, text message and interactive TV. All eviction votes cost 50p per vote and a percentage of each vote (16p) will be donated to a group of charities chosen by the celebrities. Each celebrity housemate will nominate a charity to support and the total money raised via voting revenue will be split equally. This means each housemate will raise an equal amount of money for their chosen charity, regardless of where they finish in the competition.

The Celebrity Big Brother website’s newsroom will be working seven days a week to keep fans up to date on all events in the house, as well as offering users email updates and chat forums. In addition, website users will be able to follow all the house action by subscribing to the live streaming.

Sharon Powers, Commissioning Editor at Channel 4 said: “Given the phenomenal success of Big Brother 5, I’m delighted that the same team are back to produce Celebrity Big Brother. Furthermore, watching celebrities cope with what Big Brother has in store, should make for fascinating viewing - and it's great that a number of charities will benefit from the money raised as well.”

Shirley Jones, Executive Producer of Celebrity Big Brother said: “It’s always intriguing to see how well-known faces adapt to life in the Big Brother house, but we are especially excited about seeing our chosen group of celebrities in there as they are an interesting mix. Nothing can prepare our celebrities for Big Brother, but rest assured Big Brother is prepared for them.”
