View Full Version : MSN problem

Okay... this is a weird one. It's been happening mainly for the last few days, but probably in total about over a week.

I use a gmail account on messenger.

Over the last few days it started showing me as offline to people when I was online. I could send them messages and sometimes they could send me them back, but not all of the time. Most of the time I'd be signed in for about 20 mins at the most then "disappear" even though I showed online to myself.

I did a few things
1) Go back to MSN 8.1.
2) Restore back over a week.
3) Use 'Windows Install Clean Up' to completely remove msn and then reinstall.
4) Look at my proxy settings etc.

Nothing worked.

So I decided to see if it was a problem with gmail, and I got myself a @live.com account. It works. Perfectly.

So can anyone with any tech knowledge let me know what happened? It works now, and I'm happy with my @live.com address, I just wanna know why it happened to me?

I heard there was a gmail server crash on the 27th Feb that lasted a few hours, but surely it couldn't have extended problems to msn?

Anyway, RAWR LONG POST ALERT.

fanks

There is an 'Update for Windows Live Sign-In Assistant' out today at windowsupdate.com

Don't know if this will help, or is related to this - might be worth installing.

Thanks James.

I've been trawling forums to see if anyone on gmail has had problems with msn, but I haven't found any, which is odd? The only thing I can consider is that my laptop was running when gmail had this major crash, and I was away from the computer for a full day after - so it might have tried to have forced an update or something major and my absence caused it to kafunk up.

(I made up the word kafunk I think).

I hate this new live messenger upgrade.. If I wasn't so lazy I'd uninstall it and get the old one back immediately!
