A SPOONFUL of the sweet stuff may have helped the medicine go down for that Poppins lady — but it’s not helped me.

For it’s my sad, sad, duty to report (with a wobbly bottom lip) that the SUGABABES are no more.

The sweetest things to ever happen to pop are hanging up their sparkly mics for good.

Apparently it’s because their last album, Catfights And Spotlights, only sold around 100,000 copies. The girls, KEISHA BUCHANAN (inset), HEIDI RANGE and AMELLE BERRABAH, have notched up 16 Top Tens, over five million albums and seven Brit Award noms.

A Suga source told me: “They haven’t ruled out getting back together in a year but they’re officially on an indefinite extended break.”

But, wait for it . . .

“. . . They want to say goodbye to their loyal fans with a farewell tour.”

I’ll be playing Overload tonight on full-blast as a tribute to the Babes. I suggest you do the same.

NOOOOOOOOOO.
I love Keisha

..There last album was a bit rubbish, they changed their style too much, but it doesn't mean we don't like them, they just need to go back to their old style!

Well, if they have split up, I'm fairly sure all three of them could give a solo career a good go; particularly Keisha and Heidi. Mutya did alright for herself to begin with.

FFS. Catfights And Spotlights was amazing imo. It wasn't as up-beat as their other albums which were all fantastic but what the hell. I know that Keisha is studying in university for some time, I know it's not a permanent break, I bloody well hope not. They can't go solo, their my girls and they're all really talented as a group. They would all be fantastic solo but as a group they have that energy that I love. Heidi would be amazing as a solo artist though... but no they can't split!

I'm SO going to the tour if they have one! I was reading this in work and it put me in a mood all day.

They won't split, I'm sure of it. There's no tension between them that I know of. They will be back guys, a year from now or 2 years from now... they will be back, the three of them.

Sugababes forever!

P.S: Mutya can stay the hell away, the dirty troll.

Shame to see them break up. Their last album was awful IMO. They're previous records have been great but C&S was dire and boring, sadly.

Hope they come back with Mutya, Amelle is a sloot.

Aw, I am quite sad to hear this. But to be honest I haven't been a massive fan of their music for a while now - although they'll still always be remembered as a good band if they do split up! One of the better girl bands we ever had. I guess it was inevitable as bands don't last forever, but I reckon they could still last a while longer.

STOP THE PRESS'

There's an article on Digital Spy which says they are NOT breaking up and have no plans to, they have many tour dates already and also are planning to go to New York to start recording a new album.

The Sugababes have described recent reports that they are splitting up as "complete rubbish".

The girlband dismissed claims that they were taking an 'indefinite break' after disappointing sales of their sixth album Catfights And Spotlights.

"Things are going great - they have a jampacked diary for 2009," the group's spokesman told The Mirror.

"It's complete rubbish that the Sugababes are splitting up. They are feisty but they are here to stay."

The group are currently acting as mentors on the Dutch version of The X Factor and are planning on starting work on their new album Stateside.

"They are excited about their new album with lots of new collaborations," the spokesman added.

Speaking to DS, band member Keisha Buchanan recently revealed that they hoped to team up with producers behind Rihanna and Beyoncé's biggest singles.

"We'd also love to work with Cee-Lo from Gnarls Barkley. We met him when we were working with [US record producer] Dallas Austin and we'd love to do something with him."

Yay!
