Former Big Brother star Michelle Bass has been rocked by a cancer scare, it was revealed today.

The 28-year-old glamour model, who appeared in the fifth series in 2004, has been told that she has pre-cancerous cells on the lining of her cervix.

Bass will undergo surgery to remove the cells tomorrow. Doctors also hope to establish whether the abnormalities have spread.

"I'm scared but I know that I'm in good hands and I just hope this has been caught in time," Bass told the Sunday Mirror.

Bass has had regular smear tests since abnormalities were first discovered in a routine examination one year ago. Her latest test result came through this week.

She added: "Jade [Goody]'s case has just proved how quickly something like this can escalate. I would urge anyone in this situation to seek treatment and not try to hide from the situation.

"I wasn't in the same Big Brother series as Jade but we have met several times as we had the same agent. I was shocked when I heard about her diagnosis."

Goody is believed to have just days left to live. She was first diagnosed with cervical cancer in August last year.

The reason Jade wasn't diagnosed quickly is because after her 4th smear test with abnormalities she didn't get it checked out. Michelle has, and is being treated for the abnormalities.

Nothing to do with Endemol /Big Brother
At all

This is the Curse of New Labour
who have ****ed up our Health Service.
Fact.

Jade has helped many young women to now understand
how important chacks are.

Very true Laura. I am not saying what happened is Jade's fault, but I'm sure she herself knew she should of got it checked out.

Thing is, she had these abnormal cells at 16 and 19, so she may have just thought they would get taken out and never morph into cancer cells, which of course they did.

With all due respect, arista - you're wrong in this respect.
All women are taught that if you get an abnormal reading YOU have to organise getting it checked out. They legally can't force you to get it looked at, they can only read their results - which in Jades case, they did.

It's our responsibility to sort out any abnormal readings, and unfortunately not all women do this.
Nothing to do with New Labour this time.

No because
Max said some time ago Jade had problems
with the Local Health service.

And Funding comes from who is in Power.
And they were in Power running her Hospital Health area.

If it was not for Jade
many more young women could have problems in this area.

But you must know
of cases where New Labour has failed in funding
and Direction.
The makes a change in the follow up service.

No, they identified an abnormality - she didn't follow it up.

So has there been any news on Michelle since the surgery?

OK could she have done?

Yes. It was her 4th report of an abnormality. For the previous 3 she'd got them followed up, but with this one she just decided not to - and it would've proven to save her life.

This is why it's important women learn about smear tests and not to bury their head in the sand.

OK.

But you must also understand
the Health Service is under the Wrong Direction at times.

Maybe, but this has nothing to do with this story - as in this case, no wrong-doing has occurred.
