Who loves the mainstream music?! LMAO. Um practically the entire population that's what makes it mainstream. It's not a genre or anything.

Hmmm...I prefer underground beats tbh...even though my 2 fave acts (Pendulum & The Prodigy) have been becoming more mainstream recently.

I'm hating most the synth-pop based stuff recently =\ been looking back at music from late 90's and early 00's lately haha.

I don't know what is it is it like the songs that are played a lot or something
I just listen to anything that looks good, I get annoyed when people start going on about how they have all these undiscovered bands, to be fair I couldn't care less if its a good song, I will listen to it.

Yet another nonsensical quote. Non mainstream music is not a genre therefore if you like mainstream music then you are sure to like music that is not mainstream. Mainstream music after all is just artists who have yet to make it/didn't make it.
I think what you REALLY mean here is who here likes R'n'B/Pop/Dance as opposed to Indie/Emo/Electro/Jazz/Blues/Metal/Grunge/Grime/Bass/ect.

Example of Mainstream:

Underground:

The difference is that nearly all mainstream acts are either cheesy or camp - whereas underground and dirtier beats are more like the aforementioned Hold Your Colour.

Pendulum is mainstream, you are getting mainstream and 'pop' mixed up.

I don't mind most of what's mainstream, but I think people should expand their minds a bit. You don't have to look at what's current and on the radio at the moment, why not explore old music?

Yes, mainstream is basically anything thats in some form of chart, wether it be the rock, pop, indie chart.

The example of Pendulum I gave is not as mainstream as their recent album has become.

People shouldn't like music because it's mainstream or because it isn't. They just like the music because it's good.
Sure,I adore one of the most mainstream bands there is but not because they're mainstream.I'm proud when they break records and get number 1's but if their music was crap it wouldn't make a difference.
*wonders if that made any sense*

It doesn't matter what genre a song is. If I like it, I like it. I have an eclectic music taste.

The indie music scene is very diverse though. It has changed a lot over the years as the indie charts used to be for releases on independent record labels. Now it has evolved into a genre of music. I suppose it depends how you classify music. There are artists that you could personally view as good and bad in every genre. It's all down to personal taste.

Yeah, but Indie bands dont make the effort...I mean they seriously look like random jobless stoners
I'm fed up of the Indie Scene.
It was good back in 2004 when there were decent bands and artists, now its all just a string of same sounding bands being like eachother.... boring.

I like mainstream but I love my indie stuff. Indie isn't just the kooks and Arctic Monkeys (Not really indie but serve my point). It's got different genres and is too vast to be judged.

There are some good indie bands out there. The Last Shadow Puppets are one off the top of my head who have a different sound to the majority of "indie bands" out there.

I think the problem with Indie music is that people are a lot more exposed to all these bands sounding the same thanks to sites such as MySpace, Last.FM... the whole 'indie' scene has increased tenfold in recent years, whereas beforehand you'd only really come across one or two.

M.I.A. is in there.
Prodigy is there.
Dizzee Rascal.
Ladytron.
Just to clarify, are we talking indie bands or guitar bands?
As I said earlier, it depends on how you perceive indie

I'm don't mind a lot of Mainstream stuff, but it's always good to have bands/singers that no-one else knows. One of my favourite bands ever is Porcelain And The Tramps, and IMO, none of the bands in the chart are anywhere as good as them. Admittedly, they're pretty famous on the myspace circuit but they're unsigned and generally unknown.
What winds me up about mainstream music is people who JUST listen to it. Sure, listen to what you want but it'd be nice if people would open up a bit. Browse around and you could find a singer with Leona's vocal range, or an artist who's music is as catchy as Britney's. Taking Leona as an example, she was unknown once. She has 2 non-mainstream albums, so does that make it bad? or would you not listen to it 'cos it's not in the charts?
If a friend played you a song and you liked it, but it was by someone who's unsigned/not in the chart, would you continue to listen to it or abandon it?
