It's inevitable, and something we're all beginning to think about. It's time Big Brother got a complete overhaul, from the house location, to the font used. Over the next few weeks (Hopefully :P) im planning to share my ideas with you including new graphics, advertising, theme music, location and a week-by-week plan as well as background details such as new spin offs, launch themes ect.

Auditions:

First though, I think this year the producers should have been out looking for strange people this year. As much as some of us might hate to admit it, the freaks & loud mouths are always the most entertaining characters that keep the show alive. The auditionees looked for this year should hopefully have been either:

- So competitive that nothing gets in the way of winning.
- Complete freaks
- People with secrets
- & people with interesting and genuine entertainment factors (Ag Alex BB3 & Victor BB5 etc)

I'd also like a series of tests introduced to eliminate bores from the audition process early on, to keep the cast as interesting and entertaining as possible.

The audition process should also have been open to a wider amount of people (more locations) and to lure in more people a larger prize fund should have been promoted in adverts as well as 'Life changing situations' ect to get people rolling in.

Interactive audition feature:

Eg of an audition advert:

http://i42.tinypic.com/kbzmue.jpg

- I'm still working on audition graphics, hopefuly I'll upload a few more soon ;)

Graphics:

Ditch the template. Ditch the font. Ditch the format.

Firstly a new logo:

http://i43.tinypic.com/4t3pqf.jpg

Simple, but not boring and astheticly pleasing.

As for advertising graphics, the only ones that actually work are the countdown adverts. The rest are dated, old and don't have a point/make you want to watch. I've decided all should be scrapped for a new set (Minus the countdown adverts)

In order of airing:

- The first short adverts. Clear and let you know Big Brother is back. Slightly similar to the eye flashes, but longer and more to the point:

http://i42.tinypic.com/2zqtnow.jpg

- All hearing, all seeing, all watching adverts. Basically to add a bit more verity and interest to the up and coming series:

http://i44.tinypic.com/5v7u4h.jpg

http://i39.tinypic.com/300r903.jpg

- Info adverts. These should defiantly spark rumours and curiosity which = publicity which should hopefully = ratings. Basically they are to provoke interest and an aura of mystery back to the show. Should grab a few extra ratings:

http://i42.tinypic.com/xlmpli.jpg

http://i44.tinypic.com/2uj36zr.jpg

http://i41.tinypic.com/2yvqb15.jpg

http://i41.tinypic.com/9ftnwk.jpg

- Housemate adverts. The vital part of any show. Housemate teasers should definatly arouse interest. Varying from soundbite to background info, they should hopefully create yet more ratings and spark more rumours:

http://i44.tinypic.com/11l6gpd.jpg

http://i40.tinypic.com/e03ehc.jpg

- Countdown adverts. More or less the usual format:

http://i39.tinypic.com/21joy2w.jpg

- Summary adverts. Summarise everything so far, from housemate teasers, house clips, general info and rules ect all tied together into various 30 second clips.

http://i42.tinypic.com/2hpotbo.jpg

http://i44.tinypic.com/29uq6ah.jpg

- A general end sting:

http://i40.tinypic.com/167sew2.jpg

- Opening theme. It needs to change. Its still a pretty good opening theme, but it's beginning to get tired. Heres a new rough idea:

> Stay tuned. There's PLENTY more to come, but thats all for now.

Brilliant Conor - I've been waiting ages for someone here to realise they can break away from the mould - and that's it's exactly what the show needs to do itself.

Hate your choice of theme though. I agree it needs to change, but I think a remix of the original is the best option rather than completely new. Personally I'd like something based on the rock version we saw in BBLB a few years back, but that said I don't think it would fit at all with your designs.

Oh, and ditch the C4 font on the trailer endcap - it all looked fantastic up until then, so don't ruin a brilliant trailer by slapping on the corporate font.

I noticed that too. I want our ads to be completely new, not a copy of another country's ads - but copies would be better than being stuck with the same old promos.

The ad campaign is in major need of a revamp, but there are a few ideas of yours that I dislike:

- I wouldn't ditch the eye flashes. They serve their purpose - they're not meant to be anything spectacular - just a very short clip to air in front of and directly after ad breaks. I mean, if they didn't have the eye flashes, they'd only be airing stings with the Channel 4 logo on them in their place.

- I don't really like your logo idea either - the eye logo concept has now been with the show for so long that it is synonymous with Big Brother - people recognise it. Moving it to the background doesn't really work.

- I also wouldn't change the theme tune for the same reason - it's been with BB for 10 years, people recognise it. Remix it maybe, but I'd hate to see BB use a completely new theme.

I can't fault your execution though, everything looks great

For anyone who just left amazing feedback, thans! :hello: - Its really appreciated, and for people who left questions ect, I'll try to answer them now.

The eye: A few queries raised here. Although it isn't the main logo any longer, there will still be frequent appearances. The graphics I've made for the in-show designs all still use the old eye template in some way or another and it will still make smaller appearances during adverts, e.g: during the longer ads perhaps some of the circles with bits of house in them could come together to form the old logo, and I would deffo intend to integrate it some way into the opening titles. I've also already edited the template into a few graphics above, but I think that now the logo is getting tired, despite the changes each series. Theres only so many designs a template can produce. Apart from that, I doubt theres many casual viewers who will care/notice even if the current real logo was ditched altogether.

Eye flashes: They did once serve a purpose, but over the past few years they've literally been dancing multi coloured 3d blocks and shards of coloured glass whizzing about in a blender. I'm sure most people wouldn't even realise it was an ad for BB at all. I think in the current state, the points of a totally fresh approach to advertising the show and the first graphic below the new logo I posted would work better. It's only 3 - 4 seconds long, but to the point and could still fit neatly between ads and programmes replacing the need for eye flashes.

Similarities to BBAU: I guess that comes down to that for the past few years, BBAU have been churning out the best adverts for BB anywhere. They contain mystery and make you want to watch, look clean, modern and are to the point. However, although they were indefinitely inspired by the BBAU graphics package, I was careful to not make them to strikingly similar, which tbh I don't really think they are, anyway, its not like the world of BB isn't known for copying of each other :P

And Brekkie, I'll note the font suggestion for next time lol- I agree, the C4 font isn't the nicest font in the world :yuk:

Hopefully these replies answer your questions, and if not at least give a bit more depth into my thinking when designing the ads.

.................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ........

Detailed logo deconstruction:

I dont think I went into to much detail with my ideas behind the new logo last time, so I'll explain a bit fuller now.

Essentially, the logo is an adapted and updated version of the original Big Brother logo, still widely used throughout the world. It's still blue, its still round and its still got a kinda 3D feel to it (This time it looks like its bulging from the middle, the original logo has more of a bevelled effect)

Original logo:

http://i42.tinypic.com/2u8w5xl.jpg

Anyway, moving on from the questions, heres some new info!

New location:

Elstrees resources and size are limitations to improving how the series could be run once on air. A larger area leads to larger scale tasks, a bigger audience/studio and in general more space to work with.

Heres a few ideas I came up with in sketch up:

http://i39.tinypic.com/wl956f.jpg

Houseplan:

http://i42.tinypic.com/a3ff43.jpg

Comparison to old compound:

http://i44.tinypic.com/30rqqle.jpg

- The space has almost been doubled and an additional level adds yet more space.

- I know the compound looks a bit gypo, but I've since designed the set up, and the crowd area is completely transformed. (Might post a few pics tonight)

Keep watching!

Your house plans looks great, I can't wait to see them develop.

Just addressing a couple of your replies:

- I still don't agree with the main logo simply being the words "Big Brother" on a blue curved background, especially when the eye is a long-established logo which people instantly recognise.

- RE, The eye flashes - yes, in recent years they have been " dancing multi coloured 3d blocks and shards of coloured glass whizzing about in a blender", but what do you expect from an advert that is one-two seconds long. They're not meant to be anything flashy - just short stings to replace the regular Channel 4 stings. It's okay for eye flashes to be like that - but it definitely is time that the longer adverts packed a bit more of a punch.

I absolutely cannot fault your other ideas so far though, and as always the execution is perfect, everything looks amazing. I can't wait to see what else you have up your sleeve. Well done!

:cheer2:

I love the fact you've broken out of Elstree - it's what the show needs, and it's an option this place certainly allows to explore. Don't take Elstree's problems with you though - you say the crowd will be different, so I'll wait and see, but from the initial drawing it looks like you've still got the outdoor stage set up, which IMO is something that desperately needs to go. We're starting afresh so it's an opportunity to rethink evictions completely, and IMO that probably wouldn't mean an outdoor crowd.

I'm overlooking the obvious similarities with the Aussie ads and trying to look at them from a UK perspective - where I believe they really do the job. And I completely agree with the approach you're taking with the logo - I do think it's time the eye was ditched, but it's a great idea to keep it there in the background.

Conor

Thanks for the amazingly poss feedback everyone! :dance2:

Matt, Im afraid I cant think of anything to say to balance up my side of the eyeflash/logo argument, so all i'll say is, meh...

And Brekkie, hopefully you'll be pleased by this audience plan:

The crowd problem and the studio solution:

As most of us now know, for the past few years the crowd has been booing housemates before they even get into the BB house, booing people for absolutely no reason, and most recently, even booing the winners! Having a live crowd maintains the atmosphere and keeps it more of an event, but with a live crowd you get boos, which is why I've designed this plan:

http://i40.tinypic.com/2e55hec.jpg

There is a live crowd, but housemates will be exposed to it for as little time as possible, the only impressions the crowd will be able to make before the housemate arrives is from a collection of audition footage. Next the housemates will enter a large studio, with a studio audience, mostly made up of friends, family and the press. From here, they will get a short interview and an official introduction VT, after which they will enter the house, connected to the studio unlike previous years. I'm still deciding weather or not to have an outdoor crowd during evictions.

The outside area is designed to hold roughly 200 people. Davina will only spend about 15 - 20% of presenting time outside. Housemates get out of the car, walk along the platform and enter the studio through a large LCD screen which lifts upwards, advised to spend minimum time outside. The crowd will have minimum airtime during the launch only shown during housemates arriving to enter the studio and during a select few scenes where Davina will present from outside.

http://i41.tinypic.com/2vdfok9.jpg

http://i41.tinypic.com/20ur8kh.jpg

The studio is designed to seat roughly 100 people. The whole set is surrounded by large LCD screens which can change to live images from the house or to different colours for atmosphere etc. The entrance to the house is located to the opposite end of the studio to the interview area, which will hopefully not be used to only interview housemates, but also pyscologists, celeb guests and the family of nominated HMs.

http://i39.tinypic.com/kbwwf5.jpg

http://i44.tinypic.com/2v8onqb.jpg

http://i39.tinypic.com/2latv68.jpg

http://i40.tinypic.com/muzdkh.jpg

http://i41.tinypic.com/acpch.jpg

http://i44.tinypic.com/99gisj.jpg

Now you know how the entrances work, I'll hopefully be able to write up a launch plan soon.

- Remember the thread isn't just about commenting on how you think the set looks in the pics, but also about weather you think my ideas will work.

Well done Conor! I think your ideas work really well with the screens on the exterior and the crowds and Davina having less airing time. The house plan looks great! That's probably why they got you excited then! Credit where credit is due though and BB Aus was great at building the hype - just crap at living up to it.

I like that you've done something different for the studio Conor, and that works well for the launch - and if you make the final an event and use the outdoor space again to create a different atmosphere from evictions it'll work well too.

As for evictions - although I personally think that ditching the outdoor crowd and having an audience inside is for the best, however big or small that audience may be, I think for it to really work you still have to have a bit of distance between the house and the studio. Something like Celeb BB2 was perfect IMO - close enough to walk to and from on screen, but enough space in between to allow the evictee to take a breather before heading into the studio to face their public.

With the set up you have planned though I'd definately say no outdoor crowd as it's a bit stupid to have them go into the studio, and then to leave it just for the sake of it. The only way that could work is if you do it at the end of the interview and have them leave the studio and get into a car or something to "leave" the show, but it would be a rather pointless exercise.

P.S. The set itself looks great though.

Conor
21-03-2009, 12:28 PM
Again guys, thanks for all the feedback :spin2:

Brekkie, I can see where your getting at. Thinking about it, it would be better to distance the studio a bit from house. I'll look into that and see how I can edit my studio plans ;) And your crowd queries: your right at pointing out that it would be pointless to have a crowd during evictions just for a housemate to go out for no real reason, although I wasn't planing in housemates having contact with the crowd once they were evicted, instead going straight from the studio to a hotel or something after they've been finished with, meaning there is no contact with any of the crowd - Although there could still be problems with this solution. The crowd is basically there to help the atmosphere and make it a it more active, rather than just a studio audience clapping and laughing, although for the final an outside crowd would definatly need to be used.

Brekkie
21-03-2009, 12:56 PM
There are other ways of creating atmosphere though - music being the obvious one, but also don't underestimate the "atmosphere" a viewer can feel from a simple reunion with the Friends and Family.

Remember in the old days of Bow a lot happened before they even met the crowd - and that time was filled with eviction music and a reunion with friends and family, before facing the public.

However, all that is on the presumption Davina will go and meet the evictee. If the studio is right next to the house maybe the evictee can make their own way there and enter the studio the same way they currently leave the house - alone! There is the risk then though that all you end up doing is basically having the same set up, just with a roof over it instead - and I'm not sure that works. I also think from the point of view of "contact with the outside world" the audience should be as far away from the house as possible.

Conor you are the king of Big Brother idea's!
They should employ you.

I'm very glad you have chosen to move from the Elstree lot, the current has so many limitations, right down to noise levels. Its also looking worse for ware now.

I really can't wait to see more from the house, amazingggg work!

DigitalSid
23-03-2009, 04:28 AM
As much as I like the idea of a new location and bigger house, it just isn't going to happen. Why move houses and incur so much costs, especially in the face of a credit crunch when they still have the rights to use the current one for one more year? I could understand back in the show's hey day when it was worth splashing cash on, but not now. If it does move rather than extend the lease again, I can only see it going somewhere of equal or smaller size. There's plenty of room at the current location for a big house, they just don't use it. If they made it open plan and thus required less walls and instead of silly gimmicks like jais and vestibules they could increase room sizes by at least 1/3rd.

On the subject of eye flashes, they just replace the 4 logo stings, they aren't actually adverts and so need not be scrapped. They do need to be used less as a replacement for proper trailers though.

Plus making them abstract like they have been doing recently doesn't exactly promote the show so I agree there that they should change them.

They can knock it down and rebuild it, they did the backend last year so maybe they could the front end this year.

There again, a lick of paint and some wall padding to cover the patches and cracks from where the door's been moved, etcetera would do the trick.

Updated crowd/studio areas:

First the crowd. Launch night/Final & special events will all have a live crowd, normal evictions however wont, instead this will be replaced with a studio audience. The doors no longer lead directly into the studio, but instead there is a short 50m walk to the doors from the main house. During evictions, only the press, family and friends and Davina will be allowed to be here. (During evictions, the main entrance to the studio wont be used) The studio itself has not changed, apart from a slightly lighter colour scheme to freshen it up and obviously the tinted blue doors.

- I'll post a plan for the final layout soon, so I'll not explain it here.

Very nice Conor - that works so much better. I think just adding the space between the studio and house really highlights the idea of the house being "cut off from the outside world", even though it's just a case of going through a couple of doors.

The glass doors are a nice idea too - really effective, not just for evictions but for other live shows where Davina can be safely tucked away in the studio but you can still have the house in the background.

I've been waiting a year or so for someone here to really put their own stamp on the show and let their imaginations, rather than the norm, be the driving force behind the designs - and you Conor are really achieving that.

EDITED - Launch:

9.00pm - Starts with a video showing all the previous summer series. And ends with something like "Same old - Not this time" then 2 sec obscured teaser vids of the new housemates.

9.02pm - Video merges into the opening titles

Has the studio been knocked down for the finale then? I'm a bit confused.

Also even for the most dedicated fan a 2 hour 40 minute launch show is far too long - and it's the casual viewers you need to be hooking back in. With no signs of any housemates, I fear most would have turned off within the first half hour.

IMO 90 minutes is about the maximum for a launch show - otherwise it'll just drag. To be fair it's one of the few things they actually get pretty much right at the moment - if anything the thing which would improve it most would be cutting the amount of time it takes to get the HMs in, not doubling it.

I do agree though with their VT playing after they've faced the crowd, rather than before.

I like the ideas for the launch but its way too long. At least 40mins- 1hour needs to come off that

Yep, studio has been knocked down, it was basically designed as a glorified shed anyway lol.

So you cheated then.

I'd personally like the studio back for the final due to the morons who don't show even the winner respect some years, and I think it's important for the evictees to have somewhere a bit calmer to talk to Davina.

That said if you had kept the studio I probably wouldn't have used it for the interviews - it would be more a VIP area where the finalists are reunited with both F&F and ex-housemates before moving out to the front of the studio where the big finale crowd, and some sort of stage, would await them.

Love the look of the opening titles and the prize money teaser - though C4 wouldn't get away with pleading poverty on one hand and offering £1m on the other! In recent years I've said I'd up the jackpot to £250,000 - but now times are tougher that £100,000 seems to be worth a lot more than it was a couple of years ago.

I'm not sure If I like highlights being at 10. Specially on Tuesday with later nominations.

Brekkie
29-03-2009, 02:46 PM
Any true BB fan knows 10pm is the best place for highlights. 2pm for BBLB though - no way - 6pm is too early for some, and I think BBLB needs to move away from any idea that it's for the kids. Scheduling seems rather erratic too.

Not sure about your nominations scheduling either - I think if given a decent edit it can easily be incorporated into the main show, but I'll reserve judgement until you give us the info on your nominations format. Worth noting though up until BB4 the producers managed to show every single nomination within a half-hour show, taking up no more than 10 minutes. Nowadays they spend twice as long in an hour-long show only showing around half of the nominations.

29-03-2009, 03:03 PM
I like the highlights scheduling but the Tuesday show could just be extended until 11:00pm and still fit nominations in
BBLB needs a much later slot, 6pm or 7pm would do
I love the eviction scheduling, that would increase ratings on a Friday

Conor
29-03-2009, 03:53 PM
BBLB slot updated: Fixed 7.00pm - 7.40pm slot.

Also, Tuesdays would still have nominations included in the highlights show, but the dedicated nomination show after would show extended footage and focus solely on the nominations that week for a more indepth viewing.

Brekkie
29-03-2009, 06:37 PM
Be realistic Conor - they're certainly not going to move C4 News to accomodate BBLB, or first look Hollyoaks on E4 for that matter.

If the nominations are in the main show in some form, however badly edited, the extra show should be over on E4, not on C4.

Spike
29-03-2009, 06:58 PM
Yeah I also think the extra nominations show on Tuesday should be moved to E4 and replace nominations uncut.

Conor
31-03-2009, 07:47 PM
I don't really watch C4 that much, so I'm not really sure on official scheduling, probs should have checked it.

- I've ditched the C4 Monday edition of BBLB, seemed a bit pointless, and instead extended the Sunday C4 edition to one hour.

- Nominations highlights have also been ditched and I've instead extended the Tuesday highlights show by 20 mins.

- Live feed on Friday on E4 starts a 8.00pm now, so you can watch the whole pre eviction hype from inside the house up to a few hours after the evictee leaves.

- Changed BBLB schedule

BBLB:

Firstly a new logo:

http://i44.tinypic.com/es21c6.jpg

Format: I don't watch BBLB, but I know it's kinda a magazine style show and its very popular. I'm guessing then that the format doesn't or cant be tweaked that much. One thing I will say though, is that on Thursdays and Saturdays BBLB is much more psychology orientated and on normal BBLB nights, the audience will have much more of a say and be able to share their opinions openly in a debate to replace BBBM, perhaps for 15 or 20 minutes per second or third show a week.

Studio:

http://i39.tinypic.com/2zf4zf5.jpg

A small VIP area for guests to sit before going on air:

http://i44.tinypic.com/255miyg.jpg

- I've tried to cut down as much as possible on Spin offs. I don't see many of them as necessary or any where near as popular as they once were. The official website however will be much more interactive with many more features than before, perhaps even airing web shows etc.

The shows are now:

Big Brother - Launch/Highlights/Evictions/Nominations/Finale

Big Brothers Little Brother - General BB orientated entertainment show/Psychology episodes/Discussion episodes

BBLive- Returns to red button more interactive than ever before and live 24/7. Also returns as official web streaming.

BB Nominations Uncut: A variant of BBLive. Shows live Diary Room nomination footage on Tuesdays.

Brekkie
31-03-2009, 07:59 PM
Love the BBLB studio - absolutely fantastic. One thing though about the more psychological shows - a great idea once or twice a week, but not for Sundays. That's the T4 slot and hence has to be aimed more at a younger audience. Also as Tuesday is noms night it's best not to do it then either - I'd suggest Mon/Thu, but really it just should be dotted in throughout the week.

Programme overviews:

http://i43.tinypic.com/2hcfh8h.jpg

- Highlight shows are now 45 minutes long.
- Tuesday nomination show & Friday eviction show both 1 hour long. As is the weekend round-up show on Sunday.
- No going back to basics - People don't want that any more.
- No more repeats of evil (Or any theme) - Just entertainment.
- Audition process made easier to reach, but there are much harder tests for auditionees.
- Live evictions focus on the evictee, not Fridays highlights.
- All live shows redrafted.
- Completely new look.
- Bigger & better advertising campaign.
- Shows are now all in a fixed slot (10pm)
- 2 hour weekly round up on E4 every weekend
- More ways to vote for evictions.
- Main show needs to be edited together much better.
- New narrator, or even none please.

* A full series overview, week by week, will be posted soon.

http://i43.tinypic.com/30045sy.jpg

- Daily on E4 at 6.20pm
- Each show 40 minutes long apart from on Sunday, when a hour long show airs on C4.
- BBLB on Thursday's and Saturday's air as a psychology show.
- As BBBM has been axed, BBLB will become slightly more discussion orientated during some episodes throughout the week.
- Basic format remains more or less the same.

http://i44.tinypic.com/2e2dkbs.jpg

- Branded as BBLive
- Features every day on E4 for several hours.
- Live 24/7 feed returns via red button, more interactive than ever before.
- Live feed also returns online via subscription.

http://i41.tinypic.com/2aj14k5.jpg

- Variant of BBLive
- Shows live Diary room footage during the nomination process.
- Replaces BBLive on E4 on Tuesdays.
- A 'Watch Diary Room live' feature appears on Red button live feed each Tuesday during the nomination process.

http://i42.tinypic.com/miyo0x.jpg

- BBI is short for BBInteractive.
- Many online features including downloads, web shows, games, podcasts, voting, competitions, an insiders/producers blog and interactive live feed.
- Site is separate from the C4 site. (something like bigbrother.co.uk)
- A C4 and E4 site also re-appear.
- BBLive is a sub service of BBI

* To fit in with the web theme, I've pixilated part of the logo

Brekkie

No, 45 minutes is plenty long enough. It's much better to have a shorter show packed full of action than a longer show which just appears to drag - and IMO the highlights were at their best when they were 50-minutes long for BB5 and BB6 - and C4 did give them the flexibility to extend to an hour when necessary - although at times it felt like they'd use any excuse to extend the show.

I think, while it would help the show greatly, it's gonna take a shed load more than just flashy graphics to save the show.

They've been planning it since September, I doubt they'd ditch all of that work in favour of something that could easily bomb with the wider public

Conor

Toms right. Atm I doubt a new house, graphics package and schedule could save the show. But I will post a week by week plan soon which will hopefully be popular with you's all.

But right now, I know most of you have been anticipating the first house pics, so here we gooooo:

Entrance:
Effectively the entrance is a lift, but that isn't a cheap gimmick. There is a reason. In this case, housemates enter at ground level and are raised. There is LCD panelling along the walls. These panels can display anything, from different colours, to the crowd outside to random flashy graphics.

Below is a video displaying how the screens would work:

http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/bbfan3/th_BB10entrancelighting.jpg (http://s220.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/bbfan3/?action=view&current=BB10entrancelighting.flv)

Oh I wasn't slating the design if thats how it came across, its probably just not enough to save the show especially if they ditched their current plans and went for these literally 8 weeks before the show starts. Its a really good design and in an ideal world where amazing new graphics and sets save shows then this would take BB to beyond BB3 levels :spin2:

OK, First exciting pics in about, well the start of this thread lol:

First off though, I should mention that the theme of the house this year is "Back to the future." Why 'Back' I hear you all say. Well that will become clearer a little later.

The kitchen is the first area that I d like to show you's. Basically a curvy, fully functional and for once a word the designer has seemed to have forgotten... Practical.

A few pointers:
- Kitchen is fitted with mood lighting.
- Corridor to the right leads to bedroom.
- Store located else where.

Loukas, if your referring to the white door your wrong :P but if your talking about anywhere else your probs right

fanku4da comments btw everyone!

Sorry, the staircase doesn't lead to anything exciting  Although the staircase is there so I could free another space to the front of the house to make something else work...

Overall though, the extra lever is pretty pointless lol Just an interesting and unique new design feature to BBUK. The new level is known as F2.

Some notes:
- At the top of the staircase is a luxury bedroom, seating area and main exit.
- Balcony allows full view of main living area.
- Floor 2 known as F2 (Floor 2)

F2 is very nice Conor. However small, a second floor adds so much to the height to the house and just makes it feel that much fresher - and I'm sure even a small balcony (for the entrance/exit), plus a small bedroom or bathroom, could be incorporated into Elstree if they bothered.

Well, more you will get then:

Seating area.

Its designed to look a bit like the logo, a Blue circle. Turned out slightly more abstract lol. Never the less I think it looks pretty cool. The 3 circles on the floor light up and can change colour. The sofas can seat 15, But I'm now planning on introducing 12 or 13 HM's on launch night.

Some highlights:
- Circles on the floor light up
- Designed to feel like the centre of the house
- Closes access to DR (Important)

Why thank you :dazzler: I never thought of the ball things as cameras, more strange lights, but thats a good idea since there aren't really many mirrors close by.

"Opens sketchup. Edits house."

And of course fank u everyone else for feedback!

Bathroom:

No stupid gimmicks like OMG DERS GLASS N DA BAFRUM! DAT MST B 4 NO PRVACY LK BRAPP!!11!!!1one!!1!! The only reason there is glass in the bathroom is because I think it looks good and makes a small confined space seem more open and airy.

Highlights for this room:
- Double show which can light up. oooh.
- Also has a bath.
- Slightly more private shower than previous years tacked into the back of the room. Might encourage romping.

woops. I never realised the toilet was so public lmao

k Im gonna post my fav area now:

The garden is pretty big: averagely BB6 sized) has a massive swimming pool and plenty of places for groups to separate out. The smoking area is in the wooden hole in the ground. There is also a toilet by the pool and 'The farm,' where housemates can get fresh veg, fruit, spices and herbs. There are also 3 chickens.

Pointierez:
- Access to main house and a toilet.
- Looks much smaller than it actually is.

fanx v much :colour:

k, Im sorry about the latness oft his but I forgot all about this thing lol

First though, there are 4 secrets in this house, and all have been visible in at least 1 pic so far. Some are clear, some are probs to obscure atm to notice.

Anyways...

Luxury bedroom:

Designed for one (or 2 housemates if they really wanna share) complete with a king sized bed, view to the rest of the house and private storage. Te alarm clock will not be played in the luxury bedroom and the housemate lucky enough to grab the room has control of when the lights go on or off. There isn't however a private bathroom.

Things to highlight:
- Housemate staying here gets more simple privelages (eg control of lights & no alarm etc)
- This room may be more important than it seems. Hint secret no 4.

Interactive audition feature:

http://i44.tinypic.com/sy2hah.jpg

Should grab a few extra ratings:

http://i44.tinypic.com/2uj36zr.jpg

http://i41.tinypic.com/2yvqb15.jpg

http://i41.tinypic.com/9ftnwk.jpg

- Housemate adverts. The vital part of any show. Housemate teasers should definatly arouse interest. Varying from soundbite to background info, they should hopefully create yet more ratings and spark more rumours:

http://i44.tinypic.com/11l6gpd.jpg

http://i40.tinypic.com/e03ehc.jpg

- Countdown adverts. More or less the usual format:

http://i39.tinypic.com/21joy2w.jpg

- Summary adverts. Summarise everything so far, from housemate teasers, house clips, general info and rules ect all tied together into various 30 second clips.

http://i42.tinypic.com/2hpotbo.jpg

http://i44.tinypic.com/29uq6ah.jpg

- A general end sting:

http://i40.tinypic.com/167sew2.jpg

- Opening theme. It needs to change. Its still a pretty good opening theme, but it's beginning to get tired. Heres a new rough idea:

View My Video (http://tinypic.com/usermedia.php?uo=yPO1buaO0bg7w9TbIAOMMg%3D%3D)

> Stay tuned. There's PLENTY more to come, but thats all for now.

OH MY ABSOLUTE GOD !!!

No jokes. Those are the best graphics i have ever seen on TiBB. Ever !

You should be extremely proud.

I would love for bb10 to be exactly like this. This is what the show needs !

I don't know if I like the diary room. I hate the chair but love the walls and lighting.
I'm not a huge fan of this house, I do think that one or two of your other houses have been much better, but this house is also nice and a step up from whatever we get for BB10.

Conor

Thanks guys :D

Format.

Basics:

12 people will enter on the launch. Money will be earned. Punishments harsher.

Editing:

As mentioned above, narration will rarely be used, and when it is, a producer will become voice over. The show will be shortened to 40 minutes and editing will be much tighter and less focused on one Housemate throughout the series. I think a few new editing techniques coud be chucked in to freshen up the style of the show too.

Tasks:

About 2 tasks a week will take place. One to add to the prize fund and food and another to win luxuries. Housemates will be expected to work for their money, which could peak at 500k. Tasks could last up to a week and will mostly make use of the specially constructed task room at some point throughout the task. An added bonus for winning money tasks will result in housemates getting the use of a rewards room several times throughout the series. If housemates work to a certain standard or complete a certain percentage of each main task they will win a luxury shopping budget for that week. - This year extras can also be purchased on shopping day. BB will inform housemates what extras are on offer that week. - Of course these extras are funded straight out of the shopping budget.

Luxury tasks will involve tedious, boring or disgusting chores, and pointless social and mental excersises - Basically mini money tasks. Housemates will be able to collect luxury 'cards' as they go along during the task to make life easier in the house. This is their sole way of getting hot water and other things we take for granted. Each week there will also be booby prizes.

There will also be numerous secret missions throughout the series, simply to entertain us and cause a stir in the house. If housemates request a luxury, they will have to work for it. As will they have to work for letters from home when they are received.

Nominations:

Twists that affect nominations have been cut back, so generally most weeks housemates will nominate as normal. The basic format still survives here. 2 nominations, valid reasons and in the Diary Room. Housemates may now talk about nominations anywhere at any time, but arent allowed to influence anyone elses directly.

Twists:

The twists will become full scale and memorable, and many of them will involve the public and all will disrupt/change the housemates. Less twists will be used, but they will last longer and hopefully affect the rest of the series.

Rules:

3 strike system. Break 3 golden rules and you'll be waving goodbye.

Strike 1: Punishment & Warning
Strike 2: Punishment & Final warning
Strike 3: Ejected

Minor rule breaks will involve tedious and nasty punishments. All rule breaks could result in the prize fund going down.

And here are the rules:

GOLDEN RULES:

1. No contact with the outside world.
2. No violation of any other housemates health.
3. No direct influence towards other HM's nominations - But nominations/gameplay may be discussed.
4. No electronic goods, books, writing materials, instruments or media allowed.
5. All tasks/Nominations/Diary Room visits compulsory.

Other rules:

6. Microphone must be worn at all times (Except in shower etc...)
7. No deliberate damage to any equipment or property within the compound.
8. No secret messages/speaking in forgien language

Other general info:

9. Big Brother will only acknowledge HM's personally in the Diary Room.
10. One suitcase of belongings.
11. No time telling devices.
12. Housemates can leave at any time.

13. BIG BROTHER RESERVES THE RIGHT TO CHANGE THE RULES AT ANY TIME.

Thats it, and of course the other legal shite.

WEEK 1: Friday - Sunday

Day 1: ITS A TRIC-KEY BUSINESS:
The first night hasn't passed and BB are already letting the housemates into a taster to what's to come. The private bedroom door is locked and Big Brother has provided the key... mixed with 100's of others in a clear perspex box. The housemates have until dawn to find the right key and whoever does rightfully owns the private bedroom for the rest of their stay in the house.

http://i40.tinypic.com/23iig7t.jpg

Day 2:
The suitcases all arrive in the garden with an added surprise - a housemate (13th) in a glass soundproof booth. The housemates are all told that they can either have all their suitcases back or no suitcases and the new housemate, but being Big Brother, even the simplest of tasks make the housemates lives a misery. Our latest bunch, if they pick the new housemate, the group must sacrifice one of their own - Of course they wont know this until they make their decision. If they pick their suitcases, the new arrival must go. But, is that really the end of the unfortunate chosen housemate? Guess again...

Which ever housemate is ditched will leave through the Diary room, assumabley never to be seen by the housemates again. What they don't know is that a small room has been set up for the 'Rejected' housemate to comfortably eat sleep and rest, but how is this exiting? Well this is where the major part comes to play. The room has been fixed with 2 moniters, and a set of headphones. For 4 days (Until Tuesday) The rejected housemate will observe the group in the main house. They will have no control over anything that happens in the house, but they can get into the action with a choice of 7 of the houses main cameras and all of the accompanying microphones positioned throughout the interior. If Big Brother sees anything that would be of interest to the rejected housemate, he will stream the clip directly onto one of the monitors. To aid the housemate with their decision, BB will quiz the other HM's throughout the week in the Diary Room about what their initial feelings were towards the rejected HM. By Tuesday the rejected housemate will be called to the diary room to make a very important decision. "After over half a weeks observance of every move in the house, who will you choose to nominate along side you for eviction this Friday?" - Note: Housemates will view the rejected HM's nomination chose on the plasma. Once a name has been stated by 'The Mole' he is told to re enter the second house, soon after to be joined by the nominated Housemate until Friday where both will go head to head for eviction. The winner will rightfully win their place in the main house, the looser will leave.

Day 3:
FREE DAY - Generally the task would start on day 3 of each week, but since its week one, there is no major tasks to get housemates settled into their surroundings.

WEEK 2: Monday - Sunday

Day 4:
Task: To get the housemates started, this isn't a gruelling 3 day task, and it isn't live either. 1000 felt tip pens
have arrived in the house and non have the right lids attached. The housemates have roughly 1 hour and a giant sheet of paper to correctly sort all the pens and their lids. Each pen is worth £1 and if all 1000 are sorted, the first £1000 is added to the total for the winner. If 2 thirds the pens are correctly sorted the housemates are also rewarded with a luxury shopping budget (£380)

NOTE: There is no shopping task during Week 1. Instead both tasks have been merged.

Day 5:
FREE DAY - Usually, Tuesday is nominations day but week 1 is slightly easier/different.

Day 6:
Luxury task: Throughout the series, each week a small scale task will be set up in the house to win added luxuries for the house. This week up for grabs are 5 suitcases (If they chose the new housemate on day 2) 1 hour of extra hot water and and up to an extra £30 to add to the shopping budget. All the housemates have to do is search for 13 individual cards hidden all around the house.

Each card will have a prize written on it saying: A suitcase,'(x5) 30 minutes of hot water (x2) and £5 added to shopping budget (x6)

Day 7:
FREE DAY

Day 8:
Eviction night: The 2 rejected HM's prepare for eviction.

Day 9/10:
FREE DAYS

Week 3: Monday - Sunday

Day 11:
Task: The housemates may have thought they had escaped work for 13 weeks, but when Big Brother is about you can't think anything isn't a possibility. This week, for 48 hours the housemates will be marching into 'Big Uncles Chicken factory.' If you hadn't already guessed, this weeks task involves handling dead chickens and makes use of the task room. The housemates must pluck, gut out, cut up and package 350 chickens. Each chicken is worth £2 and if all are successfully sorted within the 48 hour time limit the prize is rounded to £1000. If at least 300 chickens are successfully sorted the housemates will win a luxury shopping budget of £380. There are 4 12 hour shifts over the period of time, with 6 housemates working per shift. They are not allowed to leave the 'Factory', but there is a toilet, a vending machine and Diary room access from the area. Housemates will watch a video before participating showing how to properly prepare the chickens.

http://i43.tinypic.com/11s130g.jpg

Day 12:
First nominations of the series. All housemates are locked in the main living area until the process is over - Since some housemates are working during nominations, a second round will take place while the group who already nominated are working later today to give everyone a chance.

Day 13:
Main task finishes at 2.00pm - 48 hours after starting. Housemates find out how much they made and if they passed or failed to do enough for a luxury shopping budget.

Day 14:
Luxury task: This week, cards are attached to helium balloon,s which are hovering above the housemates in the garden. The housemates have been supplied with a box of random objects to try and burst the balloons with. When the balloon bursts, the card will flutter down with it for the housemates to take. If the housemates do not burst the balloon before the card is taken or the balloon is burst with any objects apart from the ones supplied in the box, the card can not be used, and the prize is lost.

This week up for grabs are:
A luxury pillow and quilt set (x1) 30 minutes extra lie in (x2) An inflatable chair (x1) and A bottle of champagne (x2)

Day 15:
Shopping list day. This week, Big Brother is offering all the left over suitcases still not claimed, a hamper full of luxury snacks/alcohol and 5 mystery cards - All for a small fee of course.

Day 16:
Eviction.

Day 17/18:
FREE DAYS

:spin:

Additional info:
During weeks 2 & 3, BBLB will hold a competition for over 18's to win a week in the Big Brother house as a guest, following his rules. They will take part in the tasks and will be immune from eviction. They cant be nominated, but will be given the chance to nominate. They must leave Live on the Friday after entering during the eviction episode before the actual evictee. To be up for the chance of winning a place in the house, all they have to do is upload an audition style vid telling us why they should be BB's houseguest. The finalised 4 will be fighting head to head for 2 BBLB episodes to win the public's votes and let them enter the house during day 16's eviction.

Your ideas are beyond brilliant, especially making the housemates work a 12 hr shift. They should be put to work, it isnt a summer holiday after all.
I love the 'Rejected Housemate' twist also your 'Houseguest' competition.
Cant wait to see more!!!

Brekkie
03-05-2009, 02:11 PM
You know I don't bullshit about these things Conor, so I think you've already failed to live up to the slogan "Same Old - Not this time!". However you dress it up, the first week twist is a fake eviction/bedsit scenario - which has been overdone over recent years and although it can still be done effectively, I wouldn't be doing it in the first week.

I also think you're failing to address the issues with tasks - like in the last couple of years they seem short and random rather than having a solid structure they stick to each week. I do like the idea of the workplace though, which could be used throughout the series in various forms for the tasks. That would be an area I think which could be explored - the idea of housemates having to earn their place in the house. Love the look of the chicken factory too.

I do like the BBLB competition idea though of sending someone in as a guest for a week - that could really be played with.

Conor
03-05-2009, 03:23 PM
Glenn, thank you.

Brekkie, the first week twist is essentially a clone, but I really couldnt think of another major twist that would be on as large a scale or would disrupt the balance of the show without using another house. The only reason I put this twist up within the first couple of days (or even at all) was because I think it could help pick up viewers within the first few weeks. I can see your point in the 'Fake eviction' scenario though, and I'll try to work around with that in a mo. I personally don't like second house twists, but for some reason I have the feeling the general public do like to see them.

I planned the tasks long before I designed the house or graphics or anything like that, so I can verify there will be more work themed tasks, and some will last 5 days. Also, from this point on, many of the sub tasks link with the major task that week. I think I've picked a bad first 2 weeks to start with :( but I wanted to keep major events for later on when they'd be needed to gather viewers.

Also, we will see more of the BBLB comp winner in the next post :spin2:

Part from that, thank you for commenting :dance2:

EDIT: The fake eviction part has been taken out. Now both HM's living in the rejection quarters and the other Housemates will be fully aware that there will be a real eviction on Friday and also the real whereabouts of both rejected Housemates whilst in the house.

MR.K!

Oh I do understand Conor - you start out thinking about what fantastically original twist you could do, and then end up back using something you wanted to avoid, but something which could work.

The idea is actually a good one, but as I said we have seen it before and hence I doubt whether it would be big enough to sustain the launch week of the show. In some ways it might be better to do it without the fake eviction - have the rejected HM evicted completely. That would show that BB means business right from the start - and that BB isn't afraid to chuck out any of it's housemates, whenever it feels like it.

Love the plan so far.
I really like the BBLB competition, brilliant idea
and the tasks are also very good, much better than what we will probably get for BB10
