FERN Britton has sensationally QUIT This Morning, The Sun can reveal.

The roly poly favourite will leave this summer on July 17.

She steps down after ten years fronting the ITV datime show, currently with Phillip Schofield.

She said: "After 10 years with This Morning, I have decided to leave the show at the end of the current series. I will present my last show on July 17th, my birthday, which seems somehow appropriate.

"The This Morning team are simply the best and I will miss them all very much but I am looking forward to the freedom of exploring other things I want to do, and also spend more time with my wonderful family.

"So many thank yous to all our viewers who have shown me so much kindness and loyalty."

ITV praised the star, with boss Alison Sharman saying: "We would like to thank her for making the show the success it is today and wish her all the very best for her future projects.

"We will be announcing a new presenter to take Fern's place alongside Phillip Schofield in due course."

Fern has hogged the headlines over the past few months after secretly getting a gastric band fitted while claiming she was losing weight through exercise.

And last month The Sun revealed she is set to be paid a THIRD of what sidekick Phillip makes to front ITV show Mr & Mrs.

Fern is in line to be paid £15,000 a show, while Schofield will get £45,000 when the series returns later this year.

I just read that the new presenter might be Fiona Phillips (old GMTV host)

It would make sense, she was with GMTV for 15 years, lots of experience in daytime programming, friendly with ITV bosses I presume.

she isnt old :rolleyes: and so what if she had a gastric band fitted she never said it was purely down to excercise people just assumed she looks fab now but i think she looked fab before anyway and just cos she had a gastric band fitted is no reflection on her presenting ffs do you have nit pick at everything

Arista you're being a bit too harsh I think.

However, I remember lots of times Fern DID state she lost weight by "bike riding & excercising" she should of just said she was getting a gastric band. Although many people supported her I also think she lost a few fans because of it, because she had always said she was happy as she was etc.

Anyway, when I last watched This Morning Fern & Phillip seemed a bit frosty. I remember 2-3 years ago they used to laugh until they were breathless nearly, but now Fern seems so much more formal and strict with herself?

It's just what I thought when I last watched...

but she was riding bikes they followed her across africa i think it was whih was around the time of the band os she would have been told to slim a bit in order for the op to happen

Fern didn't lie about the gastric band, she just didn't tell us and there is a massive massive difference. She said her weight loss was down to eating less, more healthily and exercise which is true. The gastric band is just an aid to help eat less. She was never asked up front "have you had a gastric band fitted?" and the moment something came out, she admitted it.

Why should she sell her life to the Sunday papers when she never even initiated any interest over her weight loss and it was all people saying "oh how thin has she become?"

Also if you think 51 is old then god help you. I think she looks really good for her age as well
