Task 2: [Create an advert] Discussion

Just thought i'd make this thread for all this tasks discussion in. :wink:

Big Brother 10 is coming - so now seems like the perfect time to promote TiBB.

Therefore, for this task, the two teams will become 'ad agencies', creating advertisements for ThisisBigBrother.com.

Firstly, you must create an advert designed to attract new users to the site and promote its main features. Your advert may be in either of the following formats:
» A 15 long second 'TV' advertisement
» A 728x90px 'online' banner advertisement
» A 300x250px 'online' advertisement
» A 'full-page' 'press' ad (435x610px)

Note: The format you choose will not affect the outcome of the task.

Secondly, you must write a promotional blurb. Similarly to the advert, it should be designed to attract users and promote main features. This must be no more than 150 words long.

Finally, you must write a short paragraph as a 'pitch' to James, selling him your ideas and telling him why he should choose your adverts.

Once you have finished the task, please send me the finished advert, blurb and pitch, by U2U or MSN. The deadline for this task is Monday at 5.00pm GMT.

If the team leader will NOT be available for Monday night's firing, they must also inform me the two members of their team that they would wish to nominate for the firing after the deadline.

Rules:
1. 'Online' adverts may be still or animated (Flash or GIF with an 8 second time limit).
2. 'TV' advertisements must not contain any commercial music, including the Big Brother theme music.
3. You may not use Big Brother publicity images, logos, logo templates or the Channel 4 font, regardless of your chosen ad format.
4. The promotional blurb must be no more than 150 words long.
5. The deadline for this task is Monday at 5.00pm GMT.


If you fail to fully complete the task, or hand in all three of the required pieces (advert, blurb and pitch) by the deadline, then you will automatically face the subsequent elimination. Details about the next show will be posted in due course.

a press ad and a TV ad wouldn't work so well for what we're advertising I don't think

I think this task is a bit of a trick tbh. I think going for the video would be a huge mistake, and going for this banner is a very clever idea.

So obviously the banner has to advertise TiBB but also make people really want to click on it everytime they see it. Maybe a question on it or something, something that people will click on to find out the answer too.

Like those horribly annoying ones, as annoying as they are they grab peoples attentions.

BIG BROTHER FAN?

Phrase 2:

WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE HOUSE RIGHT NOW?

I prefer the other one actually. Because the whole 'don't just watch it, be in it' is totally what we were trying to prove.

It's not about watching Big Brother and talking on the forum, it's a forum where you "be in" games and "be in" the discussions.

Its like our own mini Big Brother, with moderators always watching you, with a group of people you dont know, but you can come on here and have a laugh.

That would appeal to me certainly.

I've been thinking of trying something new a lot lately.

Oh sorry. How are you? I'm fine. Let me introduce myself. I'm a teenager. I'm a huge television fan and I love nothing more than music. I like celebrity gossip and I love meeting new people. But life lately is just a tad bit boring. I don't know what to do anymore. Can you think of anything? A forum? I've never been on those before. Thisisbigbrother.com? Why is that different to any other forum?

TiBB is a forum like no other. People are very close and very kind. It's full of interesting people from Madonna fans to new Labour obsessives all the way to self confessed britney addicts. You can talk about music, you can talk about reality tv, but more important, at TiBB you can BE in the game.

Team Oinks has asked ourselves, WHY do we go on TiBB? And we came to that very conclusion that this forum is so interactive and gives you the chance to be in the discussion and be in many great games.

That's why we created a banner which screams "Don't just talk about it, Be in it". Big Brother fan or reality hater, you can come to this forum and just be yourself.

Who doesn't want to do just that? So James, in this task we've questioned why people would come to this forum and we've taking advantage of it.

If that doesn't bring crowds on new members, Nothing Will.

Oh dear do NOT use tahoma for the thisisbigbrother bit! I think it did need a font change to express the point but maybe you could have used the C4 font at least?
