This Is Scary. If This goes ahead then i will move out of london. AND I LOVE LONDON. This is a terrorists DREAM. Might as well put a target on the top!!

London needs to find room to house 100,000 more people by 2016. One solution is this thing, a massive 5,000-foot tall tower (must see picture of the whole thing after the jump) design by the Populararchitecture firm. Reminds me of the plans for Japan's massive building, but this one is less pyramidal and more phallical.

The tower, which at this point remains simply a novel idea, would take up little actual ground space and run like a proper democracy. It is literally broken up into municipal areas--the "neighborhood" is a singe floor of 600; the village is 20 floors and houses 6,000. There are also three super-districts that house 33,000 people each.
Elected reps serve in a local government and have regular meetings to decide what to do with common areas, which would include an ice skating rink, a botanical garden, an open-air theater, and tennis courts.

****, did that just say tennis courts? Sold! How soon can I sign a lease?

Make sure to hit the jump to see the ridiculously tall tower in full effect.

Guarantee that wont happen its too big.

its a nice idea it's just too *******ing huge!

JOSHUAH!

Its size is an issue.
I'm sure I heard before London could never have a very tall skyscraper because the land is very soft and not as deep as in Dubai, New York, and it simply couldn't hold a 5,000ft building.

Dubai has already announced a building 5,000ft+ and it looks a lot better than this 'London Tower'

just look at the difference between londons tower and Japan's. Japan's actually look believable, London's just looks farcical.:conf2::shrug:

That is the ugliest effing skirt building I've ever seen.

It's a nice idea, but that is ridiculously tall - how the hell do they even get up that high?

I actually like the looks but its overkill. its too big.

They would be able to keep getting higher. Like if they can build 3000ft buildings they will do 5000 to just the footings and that would have to be huge it will make london massively busy with constant construction workers and trucks. for japan maybe but london they would never make it.

Cost billions upon billions to we dont exactly have that money in current climate.

I like the idea but it wont happen.

I think its a great idea and people who are saying it looks too big, yes it looks big compared to the current london but there will be other tall buildings by the time it is built so it won't look out of place.

"There will be other tall buildings" - like? Show me some that are in the pipeline.

It's an eyesore. When you look at some of the already amazing London skyline - the Eye, St. Paul's Cathedral, Canary Wharf...and then plop a great piece of cheese in the middle, it's hideous.

Ahh.. But remember.

A) It's a vision. It probably will not be built.

B) London's Skyline is going to change DRAMATICLY in the next 5 years anyway!

The tower is a waste of space and money.

It's not a waste of space!!! WTF. It's housing 100,000 people! However i think it's ugly, way to big, very out of place and a terrorists dream.

People would be living in japans while it is still being built, as it would take so long to build.
