No, most Americans are bible bashers and this show is on a digital channel in the US where about 0.5 million watch it, in the UK it would get on ITV (late night) and would probably get 2 million viewers

Do you laugh when black people take the piss out of white people by saying we can't dance? Is it not the same. It's comedy based on stereotyping. God, you are so sensitive.
You should listen to some of the really good black comedians. They use 'white' jokes all the time, and it's still funny.
Edit to add: I love how you brought Jade into your argument. If you find Chelsea offensive, how exactly does that make Jade's situation any better?

Nina, I think people are over-sensitive these days. I feel sorry for comedians, cuz it seems like they can't say anything about anything without some PC-mad viewer taking offence.

Chris Rock: "You know the world is going crazy when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the tallest guy in the NBA is Chinese, France is accusing the U.S. of arrogance, Germany doesn't want to go to war, and the three most powerful men in America are named "Bush", "Dick", and "Colon"."
Eddie Murphy: "White people can't dance. I'm not being racist it's true. Just like when white people say black people have big lips, it's not racist it's true. Black people have big lips, white people can't dance. Some brothers will be in the club and white people are like, "What are those ******* doing in here?" They watchin' y'all dance. And thy're like, "Look at these crazy mutha****as." Y'all be stepping on people's feet and hitting one another."

I posted two examples of black comedians with white jokes in the post above yours Ben. I'm sure someone will complain that it's offensive though.
I used Chris Rock & Eddie Murphy because they are comedy genius. Both of them have me in stitches with their jokes, even if they are about white people like me.
Edit to add: Tom: I like her dry delivery. She's marmite though. Not everyone will like her style. I think Jonathan Ross is funny, whereas some people find him offensive. My advice is.. if you don't like it, switch it off.

My point is look at the uproar caused by jades so called racist comments ,compare it to this ,there is no difference in terms of racism.
Also I think you need to read my first post again,at what point did I say I found it offensive.I`m simply questioning wether it would be found racist and what sort of reaction it would recieve if it was aired in the UK.

They keyword here is IRONY. She's obviously not being serious, it's like south park, using shock humour for a reaction, they don't believe what they say but they say it to stir a reaction.
Jade has nothing to do with this, she said what she said in a completely serious manner. While I'm guessing Chelsea was being Ironic.

In our politically correct society yes of course. My argument always was that Jade is not racist,I never once said she diddn`t make a comment that could be seen as racist.Jade was ignorant yes,and a bully hmmm perhaps but racist no.She was unaware.

'Ignorant' would be a better word. But, she's gone now, so it doesn't do to dwell on what happened in her life.
I personally don't find the akon/chelsea clip to be offensive. There will be some people who do.

How many times did she mention him being black or black people without any context or prompting or anything. She may as well have introduced herself and then said 'Hey Akon you're black. Lets talks about your blackness'. Has she never interviewed a black person before or something? Not good. In fact, quite poor. IMO.:bored:
Those clips you've posted are different as are the quotes from Eddie Murphy and Chris Rock. Those are snippets from stand up routines made up in order to make a point. She on the other hand is sitting interviewing a black man and she cant get off the fact that he's black. Whats her problem? If she was interviewing a Jewish person would she be constantly talking about Jewish issues. Maybe, maybe not!!! Personally, I think she's trying to be funny and controversial - just for the sake of it - and failing to be either.
lily.
09-04-2009, 06:20 PM
Again, it's down to whether you find her funny or not. I do think it's the same whether the comedian is black or white. Some people will find it amusing and others will find it offensive. She's not the funniest person in the world, and her material is certainly lacking, but I don't find her offensive. I think her humour is slightly self-deprecating in that she's portraying herself to be a 'typical white person who doesn't understand any other cultures', but maybe I read too much into it.
Thats not racist at all haha, is it that if you mention he is black its racist? I found none of that racist, Akon isn't the kind of guy that would allow himself to be bullied.
Being racist is using some ones colour to insult them, or insulting them for their colour... as far as I can see, he does not look offended! I thought it was funny!
Wildcat!
09-04-2009, 07:09 PM
Thats not racist whatsoever. Thats just funny. The reson why you guys might find it racist I am afraid to say, is because in the US, Black people and white people have a certain camaraderie, that does not exist here. SOrry, but its true. Its just like when you have a close friend, they can get away with calling you certain things, which a stranger cant get away with. Its quite simple really. Everyone is pretty much segragated in the UK, socially. So you have a long way to go before people can laugh about these sort of things.
And comparing it to Jade? How silly. Jade wasnt saying what she said to her friend, or joking. She was saying it out of anger, to someone she hated!

Its a comedy routine! And its an accepted joke. The OP is probably right saying it it wouldnt be well received here. NOt because peolpe are somehow more tolerant, but because there is more tension between the two races, than there is over there. Hence the example of what someone close to you can get away with, and a stranger cant. In the UK, the black person is more of a stranger than he is in the US.
For example, the blac dude in the US, have a lot more close white frinds, that would make such a joke in real life. Where the black in the UK generally doesnt.
the difference between this and Jade is that Shilpa found it offensive.
lily.
09-04-2009, 08:24 PM
The difference between this and Jade is ..
This was a white person trying to be funny whilst interviewing a black person.
That was a white person who didn't have the intelligence required to interact with other people.

And failing to be funny. I still maintain that she needed to talk about a few other things than his race for her to get away with this kind of 'joke'. For me, she was trying way too hard and it only worked at all because Akon is such a tool he didn't know how to respond. I'd like her to try that sh*t with Spike Lee or someone like that. He'd have made her look as stupid as she actually is.
