here is a commercial Hilary Duff participated in to stop bullying of gays all around the world , and i think this is important because a lot of gays do get hurt from "that's so gay"

That video is so gay.

Haha.

Nice effort, but as far as campaigns go, I doubt it'll change anything. Heaps of people say it; I say it; I certainly don't mean anything homophobic by it. When people say 'lol' they aren't necessarily laughing out loud, they're just showing that they found something that someone said humorous, loads of words and phrases have different meanings to the literal one that they represent.

Hahahahha XD

Tbh if you say "that's so gay" is awful that's ridiculous.
It's like you couldn't say "dunce" because that comes from "John Duns Scotus"... even though he lived 500 years ago he may be offended :/

Political correctness gone mad IMO
and who would ever say a top was "so gay" anyway?!

It was just a few years back that Jim Davidson
was Ejected from Hell kitchen for using the Very Old Term
'Shirt Lifter'

He is from another Era and did not want to change.

that's like saying black people have to come to terms with being referred to as *****s etc.
or that '******' and 'spastic' are fine to use.

I personally find puff, and ****** [ugh god that's the worst] offensive.
and although I don't find 'that's so gay' offensive, I really don't like hearing it because it's used in a negative way, hence saying homosexuality is negative, so I'm totally with Hilary.

I actually think I use that phrase more than any other... I like it.

I love her so much!

But I guess it's how people use it. If someone used it with the intention of discriminating or offending gay people, then I don't think its acceptable at all. Most people I know that say it (and hopefully those in this thread) just say it in jest or w/e.

I hate the word "******" so much though! People in my school use it and I don't think I can describe all the ways in which I find it so offensive - especially when they say it with such disgust.

No one has to come to terms with anything. As Darenn rightly said, that's like telling other people they have to come to terms with names they're called for being who they are.

Just because a lot of people say it daily doesn't make it any less offensive or acceptable. If someone called me a fag, puff or queer yesterday, it's gonna hurt as much as it did then when ever I'm next called it. People shouldn't have to come to terms with that.

What the hell? That's like saying Asians have to come to terms with being called ***** and that black people have to come to terms with being called coon, ***** etc.

All discrimation is wrong and no one should have to come to terms with it.

When I say something is gay.. it's actually nothing to do with homosexuality. It's a phrase.. and has no actual meaning behind it.

I jokingly say to my gay friends stuff like.. "oh **** ye big gaylord... " or stuff like that.... but that's amongst friends.. in just the same way everyone does that with friends.. I get slagged off for stuff too.. like my big arse, or my Scottishness or my gobbishness lol..

But, I don't say anything derogatory to people I'm not friends with.

Loads of my mate's say it but they aren't homophobic (and I go mad when they do, they apologise).. and if anyone were to call me a ****** or a puff they would make their life hell, nearly as much as I would.

tbh, I find people who say 'I say that phrase, but I don't have a problem with gay people' well WTF?! when you use that phrase in a negative way therefore you are saying being gay is a negative thing.

You wouldn't say 'Omg, that top is so black!' or 'Omg, that top is so female!'
so wtf would you say 'Omg, that top is so gay!'

Hypocrits.

I'm not really bothered about being called any name under the sun. The people that say those names obviously feel some need to try and verbally abuse others which is laaaaame and yes, very "gay".

But Hilary Duff in that advert <3 She's so fierce. And I love her support for gay rights.

I think a lot of young people who say they mean nothing offensive by it, subconsciously do. Thats just how todays youth have been brought up, even if they know it's bad and don't want to be offensive, deep down I think a lot of people do mean it in a bad way.

I find it offensive if I'm honest. I would only let my BEST friend say it because I know she doesn't mean it as a way to insult gays. People who say gays need to get over it need to put themselves into other gay people's shoes and ask themselves how they would feel if soemthign that is a huge part of their make up is constantly used as an insult. If you were black would you find the word ****** offensive. hell yes and if someone told you to 'get over it' you would be pissed off.

In regards to this ad, I think it's a cool campaign and kudos to Hilary for supporting it.

I'm actually surprised that this is considered to be offensive.

I did not think people were offended by this.

I've started a poll, because I find it interesting hearing other people's views on this issue.

This thread has made me rethink using the phrase now to be honest.
