View Full Version : BB to get dedicated website for BB10?

Earlier this month we were told despite the channel 4 forums axe, BB fans would still have a place to discuss the show with something in the works. Now the first full ad has aired and the current site (channel4.com/bigbrother) is not displayed. For the first time for as long as I can remember, it just says channel4.com.

Could we be about to get our own dedicated site on it's own dedicated domain (.com)?

EDIT -

It would fit in with the incorrect countdown on the site. Perhaps it's counting down to the new one?

They probably lied.

I don't think they did. Plus as I added in the edit, it fits with the new countdown.

Hopefully one with loads of NEW video clips and news stories so we can still follow what is happening in the house without having to wait 24 hours for the HL show.

We need to have a sense of anticpation to attract people to watch.

I hope the new website is less cluttered, and a bit more spaced out.

Agreed.

They could just move it to this one:

http://channel4.com/programmes/big-brother

and add a few extra links for each section.

I would absolutely hate that. Big Brother shouldn't be stuck in a generic C4 website template - and if it was it'd be visual proof that C4 really don't care any more.

Yes but it's much better designed than the tacky one they usually use, nice and neat. As I said, they can expand on it, but a look similar to that wouldn't be bad.

Tacky the current official site layouts may be, but at least they're not plain and boring like the rest of the generic C4 websites.

I know which I'd rather have.

I did ask the web team at C4 whether BB would be getting a standard site like most shows now and they said no - BB would still get it's own site with it's own identity.

As for the URL not on the ads - C4 seem to have dropped the url on most trailers in recent months, so no big conspiracy there. Really pisses me off on the More4 ads though where they say "Search for More4 online" rather than give the simple "channel4.com/more4" URL.

I wish the BB website was centered to the screen, like all of the BBC websites are, it looks so much neater.

It gave a URL, just not the BB one. Plus most ads are going that way.

It will happen eventually, a lot of beeb show's have lost their site.

But a lot of the big ones - Strictly Come Dancing (http://www.bbc.co.uk/strictlycomedancing/), The Apprentice (http://www.bbc.co.uk/apprentice/) and Doctor Who (http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/) to name three - have kept their sites. BB is still one of C4's biggest shows so it deserves more than their plain, boring generic template.

And I agree, I was simply saying it should get a simplistic design and it COULD be an idea to give it that one.

ANYWAY..

Do you think it'll get a new home this year?

Is that not a wast of money?

They could have the sub-domain like they have (channel4.com/bb) but just make the site amazing on their.

Plus what TLDomain would they have? - thisisthegenuinebigbrothersite.com? - Most BB related domains has gone.

:spin2:

They can probably take legal action against a site if it uses the words big brother uk and it's owners refuse to hand it over. David Walliams threatened to sue davidwalliams.com for using his name.

Not legally possible. Unless they claim to be the Official site.

Davidwalliams.com was almost taken down for using his name, so yes it is. It could be argued its' breaching a trademark.

Nobody owns a domain name apart from ICCAN. When you buy a domain for a year - 10 you are only 'renting' it and it always belonws to ICCAN.

I know full well how it works thanks (Though technically, ICCAN don't rent out domains, they assign them. They are the authority, not wholesaler) . I've been interested in web development and the tech industry for yonks.

I was referring to his NAME (David Walliams) not domain .
