Leona Lewis, and I'm not just saying that because of you Lewis, I genuinely see nothing great about her. She has a decent voice granted but she over sings and her album is made up almost totally of covers, she doens't write, she does nothing but monogamous ballads (yes i heard Forgive Me) and she doesn't seem to be able to adapt very well.

I agree with you but that's quite beside the point. 'rated' surely refers to someone who has been critically acclaimed by many, 'over rated' being that they don't deserve all the praise they get. Britney is rarely talked about for her actual music or vocal ability so she's hardly over rated. Granted she's a lot more successful than she really is but not over rated.
Lady GaGa isn't over rated in my opinion, she is a great artist, talented and she is interesting to watch. Her artistic way of dressing is quite entertaining to watch. I think they hype from her is well earned.

Kate Nash I find overrated because she sings/speaks in the Cockney accent and, maybe just because I live in Scotland, nobody up here likes her at all because she's making herself appealing to people from London/South England, yet is somehow a nationwide success.
Taylor Swift I find annoying because I hate listening to Love Story every time I get the bus home and some irritating pre-pubescent twerps are going wild with the ringtones. Her voice is really nasally and grates on me.
However, I respect that Kate Nash writes her own music, and Taylor Swift's a hot blonde, so meh. :laugh:

This is exactly why she is over-rated. She does have nothing to stand out from the crowd to be honest. She is lucky she was there at the good time. If she released her first album today, people would have never noticed her. She has no voice, she can't sing live, she dances like a whale.

Success =/= talent. By over-rated, I'm assuming most people are going by the "lots of success without any talent" rule. She has her voice, and even that's not amazing, hence overrated. You've really just given people who think she's overrated ammunition :tongue:.

I don't think Eminem is overrated, I find his songs completely amazing & his lyrics actually have real deep, meaning. Just because his mainstream material is comedic and taking hits at celebrities I understand, but his other material is really deep and striking. :spin:

why should a breakdown and loosing your kids affect your dancing ability?
Because she's not as motivated as she used to and isn't as dedicated to her performances, I think that is quite a main influence to her slightly lackluster performances recently, and I think having her breakdown in public knocked her confidence WAY off. But you can tell she's slowly regaining her confidence too. That's just my opinion though. :)

Say what you want about Leona, maybe you dont like her style, but she is certainly not over rated. She gets the acclaim she deserves in my opinion, for her incredible talent.

well as far as I know Taylor wrote every song on Fearless and I think it's unfair to just group her with all the other Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, manufactured artists because as she worked very hard tog et where she is and can play the guitar and wasn't just propelled into the disney channel or whatever, she worked hard for her sucess.
I agree on the Em frotn tho, Twilight there is more to an aritst than pretty music videos.
The Beatles; God they're so manufactured, do they even write any of their own material!? So overrated.

I'm disgusted at some of the artists listed in this thread. I've said it before but I'll say it again. TIBB generally needs an injection of taste.
Here's my list.
BRITNEY SPEARS
She's got a load of fans but she hasn't changed much musically since her first few albums. The only thing that's changed is that she's become more sexualised in her music. Her vocals aren't great and her dancing skills are good but not great. Her music lacks depth and she only has so much time in the music industry as she is now as looks fade, and most of her songs are based around her sex appeal.
She has catchy music I'll give you that but if you look at her musically there's not much there.
LADY GAGA
Even though she considers herself a work of art her music is far from one. From what I've heard her songs all sound similar and she depends too much on this' quirky' persona of hers. If she diversified her sound and took her head out of her arse she could be quite a pop singer.
MOST 'RAPPERS' IN THE INDUSTRY TODAY
Flo Rida is not a rapper, neither is T-pain or any other rapper of the week. I hate rap but I can appreciate it as a form of music. Flo Rida in particular is awful, he can't sing he can't rap and he sampled a bad song to create an awful one. Please disapear into a deep crevice somewhere.
LEONA LEWIS
I liked her at first but then I realised that apart from her voice there's nothing there. She can only sing ballads, Forgive Me was awful. Her personality never gets a chance to shine through as her music is cold.
I'll have to think of some more.

Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift and the Jonas Brothers all write their own music, play an instrument (or more) and often sing live concerts/gigs.
I think its unfair to brand them as tools or puppets for their managements, when actually they do a lot more musically than a lot of well known, established artists do.
